The CT-3431 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with BE-108T Ball Head from Oben is a sturdy yet lightweight tripod with legs that fold upward 180° to create an extremely compact package for transport – with the included head attached, folded length is only 17". For further versatility, one of the legs unscrews from the chassis and attaches to the head & center column to form a working-height monopod. With a system load capacity of 8.8 lb, the full-sized tripod and head ensure a stable base for most DSLR body/lens combinations.

With the four leg sections and the center column extended, the maximum height of the tripod with the head is 59.5". The legs are non-rotating, which enables single-handed operation of all three rubber twist locks on each leg: One twist of the wrist, and the three leg stages descend. Each leg is independently adjustable, and they can be locked securely at three different angles. The tripod's feet feature rubber tips that can be removed to reveal metal spikes, allowing you to shoot both indoors and outdoors on any terrain.

To shoot in monopod mode, simply unscrew the leg that forms the base of the monopod, remove the center column from the chassis, and screw these two elements together. With the head & center column mounted on the extended leg, you have a full size monopod that's even taller than the tripod at full height.

Like the legs, the center column features a twist lock that frees up its extension and retraction. For protection when it's retracted quickly, there's a rubber damper that protects the center-post collar. At the bottom of the center column is a spring-loaded ballast hook that allows you to attach a counterweight for extra stability. The detachable hook doubles as a stopper for the center column, which can be removed and reversed for low-angle shooting.

The BE-108T head features one locking knob for the ball and a separate knob to control the 360° panning. This enables fast setup changes, and frees you to keep a finger on the shot trigger while you're making a quick adjustment to the head's orientation. The head has a 90° notch which facilitates shooting in portrait orientation. Two bull's eye bubble levels ensure your camera is level on both the horizontal and vertical axes.

The included Arca-type quick-release plate attaches to your camera via its standard 1/4"-20 screw. The quick-release plate has two safety screws to prevent the camera from accidentally being released when adjusting the plate fore and aft.

This tripod also includes a fitted, padded carry case with a removable shoulder strap, two heavy-duty zippers, and an interior zipper pocket. A tool clip with two hex wrenches for adjusting the center column and the leg joints is also included. It snaps onto any of the tripod legs for easy access.

The legs fold up 180° so that the ball head is concealed between them. This reduces the overall height of the folded tripod.

The long section of the column can be removed, so that the head and short column section can be attached directly to the chassis.

The legs are independently adjustable to 3 leg angles: 24, 55, and 80°.

[Yes] The versitily of this Tripod allows you to create uses far beyond the orginal reasons for purchasing this. I enjoy low light photography however it also works well on capturing the motion of water flowing over a waterfall.

[Yes] Got it for use on backpacking trips, with the main attraction being its lightness. Comes with a very nice carrying case with an inside pocket. Also comes with a couple of Allen wrenches, which you will need to tighten the plate to the bottom of your camera. That the Allen wrenches are needed is a bit of a minus for me, but not big enough of a deal to take off a full star. The truth is, for me at least, once the plate is attached to the camera and tightened sufficiently, there really is no need to take it off. Certainly not when you are already in the mountains. For additional stability, you can add more center weight via the convenient hook that's hiding at the bottom of the center pole.

[Yes] I have not had the chance to use the tripod extensively, but it feels well built. The twist locks respond quickly with a flick of the wrist and the legs extend to a comfortable shooting height. The tripod is very lightweight, making it suitable for shorter hikes. On my longer dayhikes of 15+ miles I take advantage of another wonderful feature that comes with this tripod. The ability to convert into a monopod. The monopod seems to disappear in my pack, so that I don't hesitate to take it with me. The included ball head allows for fluid panning and quick adjustments. I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

[Ball head] Streamlined and sturdy with solid hardware. The 4-section leg extension is not as cumbersome as their 5-section model, so you can set up quicker - the later is not much smaller and lighter either. The mono pod config is a bonus. I was thinking of purchasing a separate mono pod 'till this came along. I'm able to mount longer lenses (300mm f2.8L with a 7D mk2) and it holds it stable. Only draw back is that you can't sling it over your shoulder and walk around while your camera & telephoto lense is attached to the tripod (or monopod configuration). The carbon fibre stem is not rigid enough if capacity weight is applied laterally to the unit.

[Carbon fiber] The carbon tripod came in as was advertised, it's light weight and strong also closes down to travel with ease so I'm very happy with it.

[2 x Bull's Eye] I wanted a light/compact tripod that for back packing and travel and this is about the lightest I've found. It will fit in carry on bag and larger day packs. I also like the monopod option for longer hikes where weight is critical. I'm 6'2 and this is tall enough to use comfortably as both a tripod and monopod. It's plenty sturdy for compact DSLRs, but at max height you probably want to hang some weight on the center hook to stiffen it up for long zoom or macro use. The ball head is very smooth and easy to make fine adjustments without the stick-and-jerk issues with my earlier tripods. Sag after framing the picture is only noticeable with full zoom (about 10% of the frame height with 1200 mm equivalent lens), but it's repeatable and fairly easy to compensate.
