The Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD Nikon Lensis a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens for Nikon F-mount full-frame and APS-C cameras. It provides users with an extremely versatile all-purpose lens in a compact design and on APS-C cameras it has a zoom range equivalent of 42-450mm. Also, it has an aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40 across the zoom range.

The 28-300mm is also capable of decent macro capabilities with a reproduction ratio of 1:3.5 when zoomed in to 300mm. This is due to a minimum focus distance of 19.3". Also, for excellent image quality, numerous special glass elements are used in the lens design in addition to Broad-Band Anti-Reflection coatings. There are one Hybrid Aspherical element, three Molded-Glass elements, four Low Dispersion elements, one Extra Refractive Index element, and one Ultra-Extra Refractive Index element.

For general use, there is a Piezo Drive autofocus system which is powered by a fast and quiet standing-wave ultrasonic motor. This allows you to quickly achieve focus for sharp images. There is also Vibration Compensation which provides optical image stabilization that reduces camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. And, included with the lens are a flower-shaped lens hood as well as front and rear lens caps.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens allow for manual focus?

A: Yes, you may focus manually with the Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD Lens for Nikon.

Q: 2. I have a Canon 5D Mark III. Why am I getting a rounded image in the viewfinder with my Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Piezo drive lens?

A: As mentioned, the Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon (as with all Tamron lenses that have the Di II designation) is/are designed for use with Canon DSLR cameras who use the smaller 1.6x APS-C cropped sensor. It is not designed for use on full-frame cameras, and due to the closer proximity of the rear element inside the camera compared to the standard EF lens, damage may be caused when using a Di II lens on a full-frame camera. As the imaging circle for a Di II lens is designed to cover the smaller APS-C sensor, but not large enough to cover the full-frame sensor, you will see vignetting when using a Di II lens on a full-frame camera as the rear lens assembly blocks light from reaching the edges of the sensor. The Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD Lens for Canon listed above is designed for a full-frame camera, and will work on both full-frame and APS-C cameras.

Q: 3. is this compatible with canon 5d mark iii?

A: No! NOT compatible with Canon 5D Mark III! Snap it onto a 5D and you'll see a round image with black corners. If you want Tamron's walk-around lens for full-frame sensors, you'll need their 28-300/f3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD. It will say EF mount (not EF-S).

Q: 4. I have a T3i with kit 24-55 and 55-250 lenses that I am considering replacing with this lens. How does this lens compare with those two? (I understand the full frame vs. APS-C issue, but I plan to buy full frame in the future.)

A: This is the only lens I use and I think it is great. I use it with a Canon 5D MarkIII. Not as sharp as my former L lens, but it can be sharpened in the computer and is 1 pound lighter (I'm almost 83) and I take a lot of photos.

Q: 5. I tried a couple of test shots. One with the Canon EF 24-105mm and one with this lens. Both at 50mm. The crop area on the Tamron was smaller. Has anyone else experienced this?

A: Can't say that I've noticed this, but I'm not really surprised. There are many variables when comparing focal lengths on zoom lens. Mfg variances, mistakes on the lens barrel markings to name just 2. I'm sure there are more. If having that much precision on the focal length is that important then a zoom lens may not be the best choice for you.

Q: 6. Comes with lens hood?

A: Sure did! It's a great lens, I use it almost exclusively.

Q: 7. What is in the box?

A: Lens, front and rear caps, hood.

Q: 8. Does the filter rotate when zooming?

A: The filter I think you mean is attached, screwed,on the end of the lens. The entire lens moves out and back . The filter just moves with the lens it doesn't, rotate.

Q: 9. does it work with the 2x tamron extender?

A: I do not have the 2X extender so can't say for sure.

Q: 10. How sharp is this lens at 300mm? Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD

A: I bought this as a travel lens. I have only used Nikon lenses before, but this was exactly what I needed for a busy photography and working trip to Papua New Guinea. There is some sharpness lost at 300 especially in the corners. This did not cause me any major difficulties. I have not used the Nikon 28-300 so I can't make a comparison.

[0.29x] As a general purpose, zoom lens, the Tamron 28-300mm is hard to beat. Not only is it less expensive than the Nikon equivalent, it's equal in quality and, most important, it's nearly lighter. If you're using it as a traveling lens, the difference in weight alone is a compelling reason to consider this lens.

[2.05 lb] Dollar for dollar this lens is about as good as it gets. I used this lens with my Canon 6D camera on a hiking trip in Cheaha State Park in Alabama recently. This lens gave me images that are comparable to images I get with my L lenses. Another great advantage to this lens is that it weighs less than half as much as the Canon 28-300 mm L lens, not to mention costing about a third as much. Unless you have money to burn and are not concerned about the weight of your camera and lens, I would highly recommend this lens!

[2.05 lb] I've only had the lens 2 weeks. Previously I used the older version (a020) with my 5D Mark III. I belong to 2 camera clubs and have won pictures of the month and other high scores with the old lens. The first time I used the new lens was to shoot 4th of July fireworks. Had great results. We are visiting our children in the DC area and took a number of photos of our 4 month old grandson. In Lightroom, enlarged several photos of his eye about 25X to 50X. The eye was extremely sharp and the eye lashes were also sharp. Tested new lens vs. the old lens and the difference in sharpness was immense. Really worth upgrading. If you were limited to only one lens for your camera...this would be the one. We are going to Iceland later this week and be back the end of the month. Lens will get a good workout then. [Full-Frame] Why run with those clunky heavy lenses when you can have this little gem? Really small and light, Im tired of carrying tons of equipment and paying an assistant to carry my 70-200. Even Clyde Butcher has ditched the big cameras and is using a POINT AND SHOOT!!

[Full-Frame] I preordered this and got it as soon as it came out. I have taken almost 500 shots with this lens. Its focus is fast, crisp and spot on. I have not found any issues with softness, or bad vignetting for being such a wide range zoom. Does take getting used to with location of zoom and focus rings (I am a spoiled canon lens person and Tamron is opposite). I see no lens creep and I shouldnt since its such a light lens. Nice to see lens cap is inner pinch type. Just easier to get to when the lens hood is on. Speaking of lens hood, thats about the only thing I can complain about. Its very flimsy and care needs to be taken. Plastic could have been a little beefier. For an all around lens, this will do just nicely. I even get some decent macro shots (well not really macro but I can get some good closeup shots at 300mm). Was worried this would not compare to canons 28-300 but I believe its very close and so much less pain coming from my wallet! Yeah it doesnt have 2.8 full range but for my needs I dont need a fast lens of this type and I am not going for shallow DOF either.
