The Vinten Vision 250E Fluid Head Optical Encodersadds optical encoders to the Vision 250 fluid head. The optical encoders allow the head to precisely monitor and communicate in real time the precise positioning of the pan and tilt mechanisms along their axes. Knowing the exact positioning makes precise camera movements repeatable with greater accuracy. The encoders transmit their data via a 19-pin Fischer port.

The Vision 250E can hold cameras weighing from 22 to 73 pounds and has an electronically adjustable counterbalance control for precise setup without the difficulty of balancing a manual system when approaching the weight limit. Drag controls and the bubble level on the head are illuminated for increased visibility in dimly-lit situations.

Vinten's TF (Thin-Film) Drag is incorporated into the Vision 250E. TF Drag is a fully calibrated drag system, allowing camera operators to 'dial in' their preferred settings whether they be for critical slow pans with long lenses or fast-moving sports. The whip-pan facility is unaffected by the pan drag setting.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this work on any other Vinten Vision head, say the Vision 3 or Vision 5AS?

A: We are only finding this adapter available for the Vision Blue heads.

Q: 2. What are the key differences between this and the FH-145 S2?

A: The S1 has one drag level with settings, The S2 has a total of three levels with settings.

Q: 3. Will i be able to turn on a canon C330 mk ii or a C500 with this head?

A: You can use the Canon C100, C300 and probably the C500. Please email us to confirm the C500. prophoto@bhphoto.com.

Q: 4. Can you remove the half bowl, to mount this to a flat base?

A: Sorry, no, you are not able to remove the ball base on this video head. There are methods of adapting it however. Please see the following suggestions. The Manfrotto Video Head Bowl Adapter offers no leveling but is rock solid, the ikan Hi-Hat Riser offers some leveling and the Alan Gordon Hi-Hat Support I recommend mounting to a board or other support immediately for it is not stable enough for camera use on it's own. The Plywood Mounting Board would be excellent for this purpose. (The mounting board image below is incorrect.)

Q: 5. Is there a compatible dolly base for these sticks?

A: Sachtler Dolly for flowtech 75 Tripod BH #SAS20551: https://bhpho.to/3h8b5y6

Q: 6. How much weight can this head handle?

A: The Vision blue5 has a capacity of 12.1 - 26.5 lb at 100mm center of gravity.

Q: 7. Does this have a snap & go quick release system, like a Cartoni or Sachtler head?

A: The Vinten VB-AP2M Vision blue Fluid Head & Pozi-Lock Tripod System with Mid-Level Spreader has a fluid head with a slideload system for rapid camera attachment, versus a snap & go method.

Q: 8. It states operating temp Up to 86F !!What happens at 90F+, as it is in Southern California quite often in the summer? Thank you,Peter

A: The operating temperature of 5 to 86F is what is stated by the manufacturer.

Q: 9. Does this come with the rubber feet?

A: The feet on the Vinten 3819-3 Pozi-Loc Aluminum Tripod Legs (Black) are a polyethylene with a rubberized bottom portion to some extent.

Q: 10. Is the tie down (bottom bowl clamp) thread on the blue5 M10, or 3/8 ?

A: We were able to determine it is not 3/8 .

[+90° to -90°] I've had this head for over twenty years. Sorry B&H but it wasn't purchased from you, although all the other Vinten products I have were bought from you. Why is this head the only one in the Vinten range with the extraordinary TF drag design? All their other general use heads have LF drag, which is pretty much the same as everyone else has used from the days when Robert Miller patented his viscosity drag design. I now have a couple of the 75mm bowl Vision Blue heads on my lovely Flowtech legs which are very good, but they don't perform anywhere near as precisely and smoothly as my decades old Vision 100. The only way this head could be improved would be to have the amazing new Sachtler Aktiv bowl adjustment system. Come on Vinten/Vitec, you own just about every tripod brand going anyway. Why can't you combine this clever Sachtler design with the best fluid head on the market? Is brand separation that important to you? Be like ARRI, not like Rupert.

[Yes] Man am I blown away at how great this head is! Vinten's Perfet Balance system really does work as intended and is a real joy to use. It's super easy to rebalance after a lens change and takes no time at all. I've never used a properly counterbalanced head until now...what was I waiting for? Even with a roughly 600mm lens I'm able to attain perfectly smooth, controlled pans with minimal, if any backlash. I doubt tracking people or animals with a telephoto lens would be an issue at all. Just make sure you have a solid tripod! All and all I'm extremely happy with this head and it's sure to last me a very very long time.

[Continuous] I work for a video production company that uses the heavier duty Vinten sticks and heads and this thing has all of the bells and whistles of the big guys in a smaller package. Well worth every penny and then some. Super great value and quality.

[Continuous] Having recently purchased a Panasonic HPX-250 I needed a better set of sticks for it. I had been using a Manfroto rig for a while but it just wasn't smooth enough. While the Manfroto is fine for our in-studio stuff with a teleprompter The Vision Blue has become our workhorse for EGN field recording. In the past I have spent a lot of time with a Sachtler and truly feel it is the best, but the Vision Blue is just a good for a small format camera, and at a much lower price point. The head is as smooth as silk and with Vinten's perfect balance system you can truly use the drag controls for what they were intended for. I would have no problem at all recommending the Vision Blue to any professional camera operator.

[Fluid Head] I've always liked Vinten tripods and heads, and this new Vision Blue is one more to like. It's solidly built, pans and tilts smoothly and it is easy to achieve balance. This head is a perfect match for our Panasonic HMC 150 and HPX 170 camcorders - and I feel it would comfortably support a larger-form camera as well. And as a plus, there's the price: This head performs like a much more expensive one.
