Q: 1. Does this headphone take the same ear pads as the Sony MDR-7506?

A: Yes, the Senal SMH-1000 Professional Field and Studio Monitor Headphones can be used with the same type of replacement ear pads as the Sony MDR-7506 Headphones. For example, the Auray EP-MDR7506 Replacement Earpads - Pair (B&H # AUEPMDR7506) will fit on the MDR-7506 and the SMH-1000.

Q: 2. Are this headphones made of leather or vinyl?

A: Like everyone else said it is hard to tell. I would say Vynil but the quality is amazing. I use them to speech transcript, tone and segmental analysis and they are amazing!

Q: 3. Does this need a power source? Batteries?

A: No, these headphones do not need power to run.

Q: 4. Are the two 'twigs' that hold each phone made of aluminum.... or the usual plastic junk that causes most headphones to eventually break when folded? I'm sick of replacing headphones.

A: We use these commercially (TV station) and they hold up well. 3+ years, 6 techs, in post, studio and field and still going strong.

Q: 5. Is it made in china?

A: This product is made in China and/or the Philippines.

Q: 6. is this headphones work with Audioengine HD3?

A: These headphones are perfectly compatible with the Audioengine HD3 speakers.

Q: 7. What is the size of the plug?

A: The SMH-1000 features a 1/8 stereo connector with 1/4 screw on adapter included in the package as well.

Q: 8. What are the inside dimensions of the ear cups? I have big ears.

A: The inside oval-shaped area is approximately 1.5X2.5 inches. We do also offer Auray Extra Deep Earpads (Pair), BH #AUEDMDR7506, which are deep and offer a wider inner area.

Q: 9. Should I get these or Sony MDR-7506? They seem very similar.

A: I bought both the referenced Senal and Sony headsets--each is stored and used with separate video cameras. I cannot perceive any audio or comfort differences between these two headsets but I really like the detachable cord feature on the Senal SMH-1000. This lets me switch between the longer coiled cord or short straight cord as needs require--and provides a back-up headset cable in case the other got damaged. As the other reviewer said, you won't go wrong with either headset.

Q: 10. Are these headphones surround sound?

A: These are stereo headphones and cannot offer a surround-sound experience.

[0.055 lb] Ever since I received it from B&H I've put aside my rather more pricey headphone and have been using the SMH-1000 BECAUSE IT IS THAT MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE. I spend quite a few hours daily in my home studio. The lightness, comfort of earpads, and cables make for an efficient tool. And I bought it on one of the great daily deals from B&H. 5

[0.055 lb] This is the 3rd pair of headsets I have owned and by far the best. That may not be saying much, but from my experience, you could do a LOT worse. Fits well, comfortable, good sound, and very portable. I use these for field audio monitoring. 5

[0.055 lb] I use this primarily to listen to music on my desktop pc. Also, I occasionally use it as reference in sound enhancement in Audacity. For both purposes, the SMH-1000 is perfectly suited. I just bought these recently so I'm just getting used to them. They seem comfortable although I haven't worn them for extensive periods I really like the full spectrum of highs, mids and lows I'm hearing. The fold-up feature is nice, if you travel with them; I don't but, if I'm not going to use them for awhile, I will do so and store them in the bag that came with them. I can't comment on durability over the long haul but, so far, so good. 5
