The CRU-DataPort RTX220-3QR RAID Enclosure USB 3.1 eSATA FireWirefrom CRU-DataPort RTX220-3QR RAID Enclosure USB 3.1 eSATA FireWireis designed for backup and external storage requirements for workgroups of all kinds, as well as SMB and home office environments. With its USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s), eSATA (3 Gb/s), and dual FireWire 800 (800 Mb/s) connectivity options, as well as its dual 3.5" SATA II 3 Gb/s drive bays, the RTX220-3QR provides fast backup or external storage for many kinds of applications. You have a choice of setting up the RTX220-3QR via its hardware controller as a RAID 1, where data is automatically mirrored and simultaneously written to both drives, or as a RAID 0 to create a speedy solution that incorporates both drives into a single storage volume.

The RTX220-3QR can be configured via its easy-to-use interface on the device itself, or through a host computer and CRU's configuration software. In addition to setting the RAID level, you can customize the settings for visual and audible temperature alarms, including what temperature triggers the alarms, and when to turn the 60mm exhaust fan on.

This RAID operates using 100-240 VAC and is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. It includes a USB 3.0 Type-B to Type-A cable, a FireWire 800 cable, an eSATA cable, a power cable, and keys for the lockable bay doors. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can 5 (WD Red) 6TB be used fully successfully, or is it limited to 4th drives?

A: From the manufacturer website, there is no mention of a limit on the site, nor in the manual. They sell a 40TB version which would use 8TB drives, and a 30TB version which would use 6TB drives. So, it would make sense that WD Red 6TB drives would be find. I have submitted the question to the manufacturer.

Q: 2. If this is setup as JBOD, would my computer see it as two separate drives? I have two 4tb Seagate hard drives and would like to use them as individual drives (no raid).

A: Yes, your computer will see the two drives separately. This will work if you are using USB to connect the enclosure to your computer, but if you're using eSATA you'll need to make sure that your computer's eSATA port (and BIOS) is port-multiplier capable.

Q: 3. The hard drive in my mid-2011 iMac is dead and I would prefer not cracking it open. Could I use this with a SSD and boot up from that, and use a HD in the other Bay for storage? There is no USB 3 port on the iMac so I am restricted to using firewire 800. I have heard conflicting reports as to whether that would be sufficient in order to use this with a bootable SSD. Thanks!

A: I have a 2011 iMac and the hdd died in it too. The internal sata cable that connects your hdd is about 6x faster than FireWire 800, which would probably make fw800 a nightmare for you to run off. Opening the iMac isn't as hard as it seems, just get the right tools, a clean table and check out some YouTube tutorials. Also make sure you get a new sata cable with the thermal sensor in it, otherwise your fans will run full speed all the time (I believe)..I also have the mobius and it's awesome for back up options.

Q: 4. Is it possible to use this device to clone a boot drive? And if so, what software should be used to accomplish it?

A: No it is not intended to be used as such.

Q: 5. Can this enclosure support 2x 10TB WD gold ?

A: Two 8tb WD defintely work. I did see a few vendors, by google, selling a 20tb version but with seagate hard drives so i assume WD wouldnt be any different but cannot verify. Manual doesn't mention max per bay capacity either.

Q: 6. HDD RPM and cache?

A: The hard drives are Seagate Enterprise ST6000NM0024. They are 7200RPM and have 128MB or cache.

Q: 7. How easy is it to swap out a drive? Are the drives attached to the trays with screws? Also, how loud is the fan?

A: The fan is very quiet. Its not very noticeable in a studio setting.

Q: 8. Hi. I have 5 pieces WD Green 6Tb from the old DAS. What will happen if I install them in the Oyen Digital Mobius 5-Bay? It just won't start or what? These disks are not enterprise class.

A: None of the drives in my box are enterprise class and the largest individual drive is 2Tb. Running it as JBOD. Drives that were iffy in the G5 are still iffy in the Mobius. The biggest challenge in my setup is keeping the eSATA ExpressCard/34 in the slot. Not sure if thatll help you out but just give it a try.

Q: 9. With an appropriate sizing adapter for 3.5" drives, will this unit support 2.5" drives, including SSD's?

A: Yes this unit supports SATA 2.5" drives .SATA 3.5" drives and SATA SSDs.

Q: 10. What is the largest capacity drive this unit can handle? Can I use 6 or 8TB drives in each bay?

A: Manufacturer does not specify. You should refer to your operating systems limits.

[2x 3.5" SATA] Looking for more storage and data protection/reliability of a more advanced RAID and this enclosure fit the bill. With good drives at low prices, and the flexibility this enclosure allows (including easy swap of drives) this is now my main image drive (yes, with nightly backups and cloud storage, just in case) and I can use the swappable drive features to put projects - video in particular - on different drives as needed. Add in B&H free shipping (next day since I'm in Philly) and it's a great combination.

[Metal, Plastic] This is a great product, I had originally bought the Probox 8 for my iMac but while it works with my PC it failed to work with my Mac. The Mobius 5 works flawlessly. I love it. I'm thinking of getting a second one now.
