Designed as the DX workhorse, the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lensfrom Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lensis a 24-120mm-equivalent zoom, well-suited for a broad range of shooting applications. Its bright f/2.8-4 maximum aperture range benefits working in low-light conditions as well as controlling depth of field for selective focus shooting. Equally impressive, the optical design features four extra-low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements, which help to control both chromatic and spherical aberrations for notable image clarity and sharpness. Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings are featured, too, and minimize flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when shooting in bright and backlit conditions.

Balancing the optical merits, this 16-80mm is also characterized by its inclusion of a Vibration Reduction image stabilization system that compensates for four stops of camera shake to enable sharper handheld shooting. A Silent Wave Motor also benefits producing sharp imagery, and affords quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, this lens utilizes an electromagnetic diaphragm to ensure consistent exposure stability when shooting at fast continuous speeds.

Standard zoom is designed for DX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs and provides a 24-120mm equivalent focal length range.

Bright f/2.8-4 maximum aperture range suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field.

Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.

Four extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.

Both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Vibration Reduction image stabilization helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for up to four shutter speed stops, benefiting this lens' use in low-light conditions. Additionally, a designated Tripod Mode helps to suppress subtle ground vibrations when working atop a support system.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Fluorine coating on the front and rear elements affords protection to the optical system, resists smudging and fingerprints, and is easier to clean.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field techniques.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

This mechanism limits the compatibility of this lens to the following cameras: D5, D4, D3 series, Df, D850, D810, D810A, D800/E, D750, D700, D610, D600, D500, D300/S, D7500, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3400, D3300, D3200, D3100, Nikon 1 J1, J2, J3, J4 with FT-1, Nikon 1 V1, V2, V3 with FT-1, and Nikon 1 S1, S2 with FT-1.

Q: 1. Does this lense work well with a D3200?

A: This lens is fully compatible with the D3200.

Q: 2. Does this lens have a zoom lock?

Q: 3. Is the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lens fully compatible (electronics, etc.) with the Nikon D7000? In the overview it says Due to the electronic control required for full operation, this lens is not compatible with the D70-series.

A: Yes, I own a D7000, and this camera is fully compatible with electronic aperture control Nikkor lenses like the 16-80. The D70 is part of an older series.

Q: 4. Do you finance?

A: I assume that this Do you finance? is directed to B&H. I doubt it, and you can geta definitive answer by speaking to Customer Service. I also tink it's a great lens.

Q: 9. Is the nikon 16-80mm dx f/2.8-4E ed vr lens compatible with the d500 camera?

A: Yes. This lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D500.

Q: 10. I've just used this lens for a short time. I'm bringing it on a trip soon, and I am considering bringing my HB-63 lens hood instead of the huge HB-75 that the lens came with. The HB-63 is much more low profile, and will fit in a bag better. It doesn't seem to vignette (it was made for the 24-85 FX lens). Other than letting in a bit more stray light and being slightly less protective, can anyone think of any optical disadvantage to using the HB-63 instead?

A: When I got my Nikon 16-80mm lens it was beautiful except for one thing. The lens hood was huge and square, awkward and I did not like the look at all. The bulk when reversing the hood was bad too.I started trying the HB-63 from the FX 24-85mm and that was OK but the best was this one, the HB-35 for the 18-200mm lens. It does not vignette either! Nice combo.

[APS-C] I use this lens for landscape photography. It does the trick and so much more. Ultra sharp. Fast. Professional build quality. I pair it with a Nikon D7200. The image quality being produced rivals images I've made with my Canon 5D MKII. Crazy but true!!

[Autofocus] A lot of reviewers didn't understand this lens. In terms of optics, it is near-pro in quality, but sized for APS-C. That's exactly what I wanted, and that's exactly what I got out of it in the past year or so. Sure, you won't get extremely nice zoom feel, and the dumb lens hood is not reversible. Also, while the sharpness is comparable to AF-S primes (it really is that good) the bokeh is not great (this isn't a portrait lens, but a do-it-all normal-wide zoom). What you will get, though, is an excellent lens for the sizable chunk of cash you'll be putting up for it. The lens unleashes the full potential of your DX camera (in my case, D7500, which has the same sensor as the D500 and the Z50). It has the extremely convenient FX-equivalent zoom range of 24-120mm. And it is insanely sharp and contrasty. (Your camera should correct any distortion and vignetting automatically.) It is fast (f/2.8 at the widest end, f/4 at the longest), it focuses quickly, it's well built (for consumer standards), it has good instant MF override, and the VR is excellent. And it's a really nice size. I have yet to figure out exactly what reviewers were complaining about. Sure, it's $1000 outside a kit, but you get that kind of image quality. Plus, you can get this for under $800 refurbished, and less as part of a kit (if you are lucky enough to find one these days). This is a just-go-out-and-shoot ultraversatile lens. If you have a Nikon DX DSLR and you are an ambitious hobby photographer (or if you are a pro with a D500 and want to get that camera out for some non-birding, non-sports photography) this one is the only game in town. It keeps my AF-S 50mm f/1.8 at home. Plus, I'm sure it'll be an excellent lens on a Nikon Z DX camera with an adapter.

[Autofocus] What more could you ask for? Sure it's variable aperture but honestly the light weight is worth it. This is a wonderfully designed do it all lens that was obviously carefully designed with a very high value for the customer in mind. I have most of Nikkor's best lenses, 600, 400 (FL versions) and the whole range of N 2.8 and 1.4s and this lens fits well within this family. If your priority is the prestige of metal construction and gem-like operability look elsewhere. This lens is about providing the customer with a wide range of view with lightness, sharpness, compactness, freakishly-effective Vibration Reduction and reasonable affordability. I've attached a trite image sample but this lens is fast becoming my always with me friend for all occasions. Unfortunately the image I've attached won't do it justice. Full resolution on a 5K Mac screen it's rich, superlatively sharp with deep colors and pop.

[8 x 4.8 x 4.6"] This is my second lens after my kit lens and I am very happy with it. I like to shoot with natural light and greatly appreciate the vibration reduction. I'm still in the relatively early stages of learning my way around a DLSR, and found the limitations of my kit lens frustrating (especially the lack of wide aperture); I think I'll be happy with this one for a long time.

[f/2.8 to 4] This has become my default lens. It is relatively light and small and is quite sharp. The color saturation is great as is the sharpness.

[72 mm (Front)] I'm completely happy with this lens! It's fast focusing, with consistently sharp images and near perfect color rendition...plus, it's over a half pound lighter than the 17-55 f/2.8 I'd been using (on a D500) 'til now, a major point for me! If you shoot with a DX-sensor Nikon, you can hardly do better, especially so at this len's price.

[Yes] My, my, my, what a lense, had no idea it was going to be such an outstanding item. Well, I haven't used it yet, the adapter to Z camera is still coming, but, it's obvious, clear as a day, this is one really awesome piece of equipment. It's huge! Worth its every penny. B&H's done a great job, too; read it somewhere that they really cater to photographers. It's true. Very happy camper here. 16-80 (times 1.5), this going to be the only workhorse we will need and it's simply exquisite! What a lovely piece of equipment.

[f/2.8 to 4] I just received it a few days ago and taken some test shots at various focal lengths... Crisp and sharp as I expected... I'll update as I have more experience with this lens. Paired with my D7100...
