A cine-style lens that covers full-frame sensors, the SLR Magic APO HyperPrime CINE 25mm T2.1 PL Mount Lensprojects a 44mm image circle and is suitable for use with cameras with high-resolution full-frame sensors. It features cine-style focus and iris gears and an internal focus design that allows you to pull focus without the length of the lens changing. This makes it well-suited for use with rod-mounted lens accessories and matte boxes.

The 300° of focus rotation provides for precise focus pulls especially when working at close focus. The lens focuses in the industry standard direction and has a 95mm front diameter. The front of the lens does not rotate as you change focus, which may allow for the use of clip-on matte boxes and sunshades (depending on weight) as well as polarizing filters. The lens incorporates an ARRI PL mount that provides a simple, strong, and highly reliable mount.

The lens covers full-frame sensors.

The internal focus design allows you to pull focus without the length of the lens changing. This is especially important when working with rod-mounted lens accessories such as follow focus units so that the gears remain engaged as focus changes. The consistent lens length also makes using a rod-mounted matte box simpler, as there is no concern for pushing into or pulling out of the matte box, and you don't need a bellows-style anti-reflection ring.

Built-in iris and focus gears follow industry standards, allowing you to work with optional follow focus units and lens gear motors.

300° of focus rotation enables precise focus adjustment, especially as you focus close to the lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the FF focal lenght equivalent for this lens?

A: Micro Four Thirds lenses have a crop factor 2x, so this 25mm lens is equivalent to a 50mm Full Frame lens.

Q: 2. Will this lens mount on a Canon DSLR body

A: no, it will not mount on a canon body

Q: 3. 1.- Does this have user interchangable mounts ? 2.- can you use a follow focus like the Nucleus Nano with the iris wheel? it looks very tiny and narrow

A: It does not have an interchangeable lens mount. You should be able to use a Follow Focus system on the iris ring though..

Q: 4. Between this and 8mm of Slr Magic, is there any image quality difference since 10mm is way expensive?

A: The image quality should be comparable. What you are paying for is a far more robust housing in the 10mm. It is rugged for it is meant to be used on set all day, every day. The 8mm is designed to be much lighter since its principal use is for drones.

Q: 5. What are the markings 16 8 4 4 8 16 for?

A: That is the lens's hyperfocal distance scale. Normally only found on manual prime lenses like this, it can be a very useful tool. First determine your aperture and by using the image above of the lens as an example, lets say it is a f/16. The lens focus is set here to 3'6 . Note that the right hand 16 lines up with 10' and the left hand 16 lines up with 2'4 . This is your depth of field with this 10mm lens, with a aperture setting of f/16 and a focus of 3'6 . Your area in focus is 7'8 . Another example, one very good for gimbal work. Move the focus ring until the Infinity (Inf) mark lines up with the right hand aperture of whatever the aperture is be it 4 or 8 or 16. Then look to the corresponding one on the left and note the distance on the focus ring. That means everything from that point to infinity is in focus. No focus pulling needed. This knowledge was the basis of my profession as a camera assistant. Sometimes I would wish all lenses had this much dept of field.

Q: 6. What is the filter thread diameter?

A: 62mm, not 58mm.

Q: 7. hi does these lenses have a specific characteristic to it? Is it maybe more on the vintage side or is it a modern sharp lens? thanks for your help.

A: This lens leans more on the modern, sharp end, but still has some very fine, delicate rendering and a very subtle cinema-like look. It is elegant and simple in a very subtle way.

Q: 8. Is it weather sealed?

A: Not to my knowleadge

Q: 9. The iris ring has a little bit of drag when rotating compared to others lenses, is that normal?

A: Yes, that sounds normal.

Q: 10. What is the angle of view?

A: This lens is designed to cover an MFT sized sensors, which is typically a 2.0x crop factor. That means it will have the equivalent of a 20mm field of view.

[Full Frame] I use the lens on my sony A5000 and even though its an old camera the picture quality when used in conjunction with this lens is exceptional to say the least especially in low light scenarios, it is a manual focus lens, so some adjustments are required but other than that I was surprised how this small lens produces great pics.

[3.45 lb] Such a lovely lens. I compared it directly with a Zeiss CP.2 50mm I'd been using over the years, and the difference in purple fringing at high contrast points was jaw dropping. The Zeiss had a quite a fair bit of fringing, while there was no fringing whatsoever with the SLR Magic APO. This is a true, legit APO lens. A nice surprise considering how loose many manufacturers are with the 'APO' moniker. The lens has a really lovely, cinematic rendering. Finds a nice balance between the hyper crisp, clinical look of modern lenses and the flattering character of a classic cinema lens. Just the slightest hint of veiling flare when wide open. Incredibly clean, smooth bokeh thanks to the spherical optics (no aspherical elements), and 13 aperture blades with rounded edges. Very little focus breathing. Adapting these lenses to EF is crazy fast and easy with SLR Magic's optional matching PL-EF adapter. It's quite compact for a cine lens, however it is very dense due to the amount of glass. The only items I can fault it on are a rather pedestrian minimum focussing distance of 2', and a fair amount of vignetting when shooting wide open on vista vision/full frame (don't notice any real vignetting when shooting 135/APS-C). Unlike the CP.2's, CP.3's, Xeen's, Sigma Cine, and Canon Cine lenses (which are almost completely photo optics rehoused in cine bodies), these were designed for cine use from the optical design on up.

[3.45 lb] With an a background using photo lenses, this piece of glass is heavy, at 2 lbs, great for smoothing out those micro-jitters on my Pocket 6K and 4K. I used this on a talking head video a like the results. I look forward to using this lens more to experience the characteristics people crave about. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase so much I'm considering purchasing the 85mm.
