The single Mackie XR624 6.5" Active Studio Monitor Singleis designed to reveal your true mix in a way that feels natural and accurate without the fatigue monitors can bring after long hours at the mixing desk. It can be used in various applications for recording studios, video production houses, voice-over studios, and more.

The monitor has XLR and TRS audio inputs and a 45 Hz to 22 kHz frequency response. For clarity, it features an XR logarithmic waveguide that matches the dispersion pattern of the 6.5" Kevlar woofer for midrange transition, which recesses the 1" tweeter so that its active area is on the same axis with the woofer. It provides the acoustic alignment of high and low frequencies for balance.

The ELP Bass Reflex System utilizes an extended length, internally curved design that provides extended low-frequency response and increased output capability, even at high volumes without any "air noise", which plagues typical ports. Also, the monitors are easily adaptable to suit your mixing environment with three adjustable switches: Acoustic Space, HF filter, and LF filter.

Finally, the XR series monitors are equipped with a rigid, ultra-low distortion Kevlar woofer that maintains its shape even under a high amount of stress. This provides fast recovery from transients and accurate, detailed low-end.

The XR624 features a download for ProTools | First and Waveform software and The Musician's Collection plug-in package including 23 high-quality plugins with BBD Delay, Level Lite, 304E EQ, and 304C Compressor. To authorize the software, simply input the mixer's serial number on the website.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The pictures don't show an XLR or 1/4" input jack, but the specs say there is one...where is it?

A: The XLR-1/4" combo jack is not shown in the photos we have posted. It is located on the back of the speaker, on the lower right side. I was able to find a photo on Neumann's website which shows the XLR-1/4" combo jack labeled as #14: https://static-neumann.s3.amazonaws.com/img/3060/x2_desktop_KH80DSPAG_Features.jpg

Q: 2. Is a big difference between these and mr5 mk3 ? How about power consumption ?

A: The power consumption on the MR524 and MR5mkiii during loud music playback is the same; 90 watts. High's and low's are better reproduced over the MR524 nonetheless.

Q: 3. Will it convert unbalanced to balanced?

A: This passive monitor controller accepts and outputs cables with either balanced or unbalanced connections, but it does not actively convert signals from balanced to unbalanced or visa versa.

Q: 4. Which do you recommend 8240APM or 8040BPM? ( I'm not mixing engineer. It's for my own project from composing to mastering by myself.?

A: the genelec 8040b i bought a pair and it was the best decision of my whole life the sound is flat but is the real sound obviously you need to start to fix your room with auralex and accoustic things

Q: 5. Cables needed to connect to a Focusrite solo

A: That will depend on which generation of Scarlett Solo you have. Assuming you have a pair of the Rokit 5 G4's, if your Solo is 2nd Generation will need two rca to xlr male cables like these B&H # COCRMXM6. If your Solo is the newer 3rd generation, then you will need two trs to xlr male cables like these B&H # PEPMTRSXM06.

Q: 6. Would there be any issues using a Y cable to send audio to headphones as one of the outputs?

A: Y cables, when used to duplicate a stereo signal from a headphone output, will cut the audio level significantly.

Q: 7. Does this unit come with cables?

A: The Mackie Big Knob Passive Studio Monitor Controller does not include any cables.

Q: 8. Will these do OK at a distance of 3 to 4 meters from the speakers? Want to use it in a medium size bedroom.

A: Thanks. That page doesn’t speak about the distance between speakers and listener — just between speakers and walls, and angles among all the three. For this price the info should be more accurate: at what distance from the speakers does the quality fall off? There are reviewers who say they attach these speakers to TVs in their living rooms. Are they in such tiny rooms that their TV is 2 meters away from them? I doubt it. This is the info I need: would 4 meters be too much for these speakers costing thousands? 5 meters? What’s the number?

Q: 9. Do the transformer that power the class a/b amp hum?

A: No, the power transformer in the Mackie MR624 Powered Studio Monitor should not create hum.

Q: 10. Ok, silly question...where to I connect my red and black speaker wire from my pre-amp?

A: There is an RCA input connection on the back of each of these speakers for an unbalanced audio signal. If you have speaker cables, which carry audio as well as power, then you would require passive speakers; such as two of the Alesis Elevate 6 Passive - 6 Desktop Studio Monitor, (B&H # ALELEVATE6PA.)

[2.7 kHz] Buy it. You won't regret it. For playback these are wonderful. Sounds so clear and for well produced/mixed music you hear everything. Vice versa for things that aren't. You hear everything. I still use headphones to properly mix/edit with.

[17.5 lb] I came from Mackie MR5 mk1's that I owned for many many years. These have a deeper, tighter bass. I like the high end through these too. It's not brash. Sound stage is pretty wide.

I briefly owned Kali LP6 but returned them due to the noisey Class D amps that sounded like a waterfall (white noise) in a quieter room from 2-3 feet away.

These Mackies have a Class A/B amp design that is much much quieter. Plus the Mackies just sound tighter to my ears. Esp in the low end. More mid definition too compared to the Kali monitors. The enclosure of the Kalis was a flexy cheap plastic. These Mackies are a lot more sturdy.

I'm happy. I would probably give these a 4.5/5 if I could. And the LP6 a 3.

[17.5 lb] Upgraded from 8040A with auto stand by feature. Practically the same. Very sturdy. Great for tracking (recording) and editing but not for mixing (as with any near-field out there)

[2.7 kHz] Finally had time to set up & break-in. Listened to an old David Bowie CD, heard things I never heard before. Nice hi-end. On the low end, the Passive Radiators are finally back in style. (Bass Ports always were a compromise) Bought on recommendation from others, They sound so good I could cry, knowing what I missed all these years. In my opinion, cant be beat for the price, by a long shot. The Auto-Off can come into play at low listening levels, not really any big deal, just turn it up for a few seconds & your back in business. Thank You Focal!
