The black ARRI 650W Plus Hanging Fresnel is best suited for use in studios and theatres. This is a hanging, manually controlled model. Tilt, pan, focus, and barndoor adjustments are all done by the user while on a ladder. When equipped with an FRK 650W bulb, available separately, this fixture throws a beam of light of 208 footcandles 3.8' in diameter from 15' at full spot. It throws a beam of 48 footcandles 14.6' in diameter from 15' at full flood. This fixture is equipped for 120 VAC operation. It will also function with 220-240 VAC with the appropriate bulb and plug adapter, available separately.

Q: 1. Is the adapter for 220 volts just for the plug or do you need a different adapter for the 220 volt bulb?

A: The power cable and switch for this unit suits both 120v or 220-240v no adaptor required. Therefore you can place any voltage lamp that fits the base of this unit. Obviously the lamp voltage should match the voltage of the country or region where you are using this light.

Q: 2. Do these lights have a dimmer switch? Are they dimmable in any way?

A: Not so much able to dim but you do have an adjustable spot. If u need smaller lights get a kit with a variety of sizes instead

Q: 3. Hello there!I am new in this and I have some questions. I am planning to buy some of this lights. I already have the regular ones with bulbs and softboxes.Does this aril ight it get hot like a house light bulb or hotter?Can I put a softbox on it or it will burn it?what about If I put it aiming to close to the wall or paper backdrops? would it burn them out?Thanks!!!

A: Tungsten halogen fixtures like this one would produce a lot of heat and require special softboxes to withstand the heat. It is not advisable to place this light close to a wall or paper backgrounds at risk of fire. A suitable softbox you can use is the Chimera XS Video Pro Plus 1 Softbox (16 x 22 ) B&H # CHVPP1BXS which attaches to this Arri fresnel with the Chimera Speed Ring, Aluminum for Video Pro Bank, B&H # CHSRAC5VP.

Q: 4. Description says it is dimmable with an external dimmer. What is a suitable dimmer for these lights?

A: For a non professional dimmer you can use # imd1000 or any heavy duty dimmer with an Edison outlet

Q: 6. Is there a burn-in time for this? It smells horrible. Also, when I open it up to full flood, the light shuts off. Is it shorting?

A: this unit like most with a quartz lamp produces a great deal of heat. i would expect some burn-in time. this is a problem made worse in dirty or dusty environments. the fact that you are losing output at full flood raises other questions. i don't think you have a shorting problem (that would overload the circuit feeding the instrument and cause the protective breaker to trip. then there would be no power to illuminate the lamp when you returned to spot or mid-focus positions. it is likely that there is a loose connection in the feed wires which is stretched to the point where contact is broken and is regained when the position of the lamp carriage is moved again. if this is the case there may be a problem with insulation or some other material in the lamphouse touching or getting too near to the lamp (bulb) causing the burning smell.. pop the lamphouse and do some careful inspection of the socket, feed wires and focusing mechanism. be sure unit is unplugged when you do this. i don't want to responsible for your getting a shock if there is an electrical issue.this is not a normal situation and if you can't find a simple explanation quickly it is time to box the unit up and return it for a functional one. in my experience arriflex and b&h are both exceptional service providers and genuinely concerned about quality and customer satisfaction.

Q: 7. can you use multiple watt bulbs?

A: It is 120-240VAC; however, it will work with 220-240 AC voltage but you need the appropriate bulb and adapter. I have used multiple watt bulbs in mine and have never had an issue. You just need the adapter. I hope this is helpful! Good luck!!

[650 W] I use this light for still photographs, video and even some 8mm and 16mm film production. It has the famous German made Arriflex quality. It's very sturdy and heavy. The focusing fresnel lens turns smoothly and you can focus from pinpoint to flood light. The Arri lenses have that rich warm old school Hollywood glow. THe power cord is included and long enough for most sets and studios. This light gets HOT! Not just warm but VERY HOT! Bring a pair of gloves to adjust the barn doors on front and be careful where you touch the housing. It's not well known but you CAN put a lower watt lamp in here, like a 350 watt to cut down on heat, power consumption and light intensity. The warm light output can be an advantage if working with nudes as it's about as warm as an average space heater! Be sure to get a very good and sturdy set of legs or light stand for this. It's heavy and a cheap stand will topple over and destroy your light or worse, land on a model. There are cheaper fresnel lights out there but build quality is lacking and you will be frustrated in the long run. Old school tungsten lights have a look that cannot be duplicated by LED lights or strobes. Make certain that's the look you want before buying this. 5

[650 W] My employer is a small sports media production house, he had a box of these things suffering from various issues (they must have been at the very least 10 years old) and I was charged with repairing all of them. The construction on the inside takes Keep it Simple Stupid to a whole new level. For someone who knows nothing about electricity I was able to repair all of them and they work like new despite their age. 5

[6-5/8"] This is my everyday light kit when I'm on the move. Great Arri build quality, beautiful even light. At this price point, this is spot on bang for buck. The kit is heavy but the heavy duty box with caster wheels makes rolling it around very easy. The accessories included are a bonus (gloves, spare bulb protector box ect.) Couldn't be happier! 5

[6-5/8"] I just started using this light at weddings (I'm a videographer) and it creates a great cast of light over the dance floor during the reception! I bought the dimmer with it, just in case it gets too harsh. 5

[3200K] These are not for small interior shooting as they get very hot, I consider ARRI some of the the best light equipment you could have; this kit is great, very complete, tripoids are very sturdy and the filters are a big plus. 5
