Possibly the single most versatile lens, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lensfrom Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lensspans a useful wide-angle to short-telephoto range and features a constant f/4 maximum aperture for consistent performance throughout the zoom range. Three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements are used to greatly reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations in order to produce a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Also benefitting image quality, both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Supporting the optics is VR II image stabilization, which compensates for camera shake to help realize sharp imagery when shooting handheld. A Silent Wave Motor is also used to provide fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override.
The product comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's packaging. It includes all the manufacturer's accessories.

Standard zoom is designed for FX-format F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36-180mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range.
Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
Both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field techniques.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. does using this lens with nikon d7100 have any drawback in term of image quality?
A: No, the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens is fully compatible with the D7100.
Q: 2. Can I put this on the Sony FS5? If I need an adapter, what do I look for?
A: I put it on a FS7 this week with a Speedbooster Ultra. The speedbooster allows you to control the aperture, but I do not think that the VR works with it. So, I am assuming it would be a great lens on the FS5.
Q: 3. Will this lens auto focus on my D330?
A: YES, D3300 will auto focus...your google also listed another site with the name Lenshero . com....read the review there.
Q: 4. Does this lens come with a hood?
A: Yes, this lens come with a hood.
Q: 5. Is this lens sufficiently better than the earlier 24-120 lens to justify a trade?
A: No this is my second lens I personally like the first one is better.
Q: 6. Will this lens work with the D5300?
A: Yes, but the 24-120 lens is a FX lens. It costs more than twice the cost of a D5200. A cheaper alternative is the 18 - 105 zoom which is designed for the DX models.
Q: 7. whether this lens is suitable for landscape purposes with Nikon Dx ?
A: I've used this lens on both my D7000 (DX) and D610/750 (FX) cameras for landscapes and city scapes with great success. Your true focal distance at the widest is 36mm with a DX camera, but for landscapes that isn't really a huge limitation vs the 21mm Zeiss or even 14-24mm Nikkor. Assuming you are shooting vast wide open landscapes this is an excellent lens to grow into as you explore FX down the road and gains some reach with your current DX setup.
Q: 8. I shoot full frame and have the 24-70 2.8 but was wondering if this was a good replacement lens for my backpacking trips where I don't need that many stops? I understand it's lighter and smaller (which is the obvious gain I'm looking for), but can I still get print quality photos with this? I always have my 14-24 2.8 in my pack but it would sure be nice to cut a little weight if I can substitute my 24-70 2.8 with this thing. And not to mention get way more focal length!
A: I have the 24-120 f/4 and the 70-200 f/2.8. I do not have the f/2.8 for the 14-24 or the 24-70. I use my 24-120 for those times when I need a wide angle. If I can get away with 70 mm or longer, I ALWAYS bear the weight and use my 70-200 f/2.8. I just like the images it produces more than those I get from my 24-120 f/4. If you were making the move from a kit lens to the 14-120, I think you would be happy. Being used to the amazing quality of the images from the 2.8 series, I doubt that you would ever be satisfied with the 24-120, f/4. If I had the 24-70 f/2.8, I think that I would sell my 24-120. It's not that you cannot make print quality images with it. You can. But they won't be as wonderful as the images that you are used to getting. I'm a woman, almost 61-years old. I usually cut my weight by choosing to focus on only one type of image at each shoot. It forces me to consider the type of images I want to capture in advance, and choose the lens that will most likely support that day's shooting. It also helps to protect my sensor from unwanted dust. Every now and then, I wish that I had one of my other lenses, but it usually works very well.
Q: 9. How does the 24-120 fare as an only travel lens for hand-held, on-the-move shots? Thanks.
A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens is a great choice for a one lens system for traveling. The focal range is quite extensive while the size of the lens is relatively small. The fact that it has a constant aperture of f/4 is also a positive factor in this decision. Excellent lens!
Q: 10. Does the lens come with an HB53 hood?
A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens come with a Nikon HB-53 Bayonet Lens Hood.
