This model has very easy access to the ram and m.2 drive slots for easy upgrades without needing disassembly. 5

Installed drives (No screws needed) Setup the NAS in raid 5 and all worked well. Been running steady since I purchased it. Using it to back up Microsoft 365 and several other places. 5

I have been looking for a solution to consolidate and easily access all of my data. This was a low bar of entry for me to do just that! I now feel more secure, organized, and relieved I can stop paying for subscription fees to cloud services. I went into this a little blind, and there are a lot of apps and processes to learn about and understand. But after a couple of days, I have successfully set this up to: - keep a complete backup of my entire DropBox account - run automatic machine backup images for several PCs and 2 Macs - store large quantities of raw audio and video content for studio production I'm especially pleased that backup processes send me email notices, including notices of machines that were offline and didn't get backed up. It all feels very well managed. I like it a lot. The drives make a fair bit of clacking noise when running hard. At first, this was resonating through my desk, the floor, and even into production spaces on the floor below. All of that was completely resolved with a simple foam pad under the NAS enclosure, the same type used for audio speaker isolation. 5

I know there are cheaper ways to set up a local NAS, but I didn’t want to spend all my time fussing with linux configs and fighting with RAID formatting so I went with this synology drive while it was on sale. So far, its been rock solid and very easy to set up for streaming my local media and backing up my devices. 5

Synology NAS devices are solid and configured correctly with m.2 cache drives and at least 7200 rpm NAS drives they run like a jet when used as a backup device or network share. You can even back them up to the Amazon's AWS backup cloud services. 5
