The Intel NUC 8 Mini PC NUC Crimson Canyon i3 (Tall)from Intel NUC 8 Mini PC NUC Crimson Canyon i3 (Tall)is designed to aid your productivity with a compact and portable computer that's equipped with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i3-8121U dual-core processor. This mini PC also houses 8GB of LPDDR4 memory and a 1TB SATA3 hard drive for all your multitasking and data management needs. Moreover, the NUC 8's hard drive features an extra M.2 slot where you can install an Intel Optane Memory module, which is used as a cache to enhance a hard drive's performance. In addition to speedy performance, the Core i3-8121U processor is equipped with 4MB of cache memory and has a thermal design power of 15W.

The NUC 8 Home has a dedicated AMD Radeon 540 Graphics chipset with 2GB of GDDR5 memory on-board. When you want to extend your mini PC's display onto external monitors, choose between two available HDMI 2.0a ports to back your presentation. These ports support 4K resolution at 60 Hz, so you can enjoy your favorite movies and games in style. To complete your multimedia experience, the NUC 8 outputs 7.1-channel surround sound along with a combo headphone/microphone jack.

Intel has outfitted the NUC 8 Home with four USB 3.1 Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 Type-A internal header ports, as well as an integrated SDXC memory card slot with UHS-I support. For accessing networks, the NUC 8 is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. There's also Bluetooth 5 built-in for connecting your system to wireless peripherals. Here at B&H I got the barebones i3 kit (without the drive or any memory) and installed MS Windows, memory, and the drive myself. Two tips for self-installers based on the other reviews: 1) Pressing the power button for three but not four seconds takes you to a menu allowing you to set options like boot order, make sure LAN is turned on, etc. 2) If installing Windows 11, you might only need to download the wireless driver to a USB and run the driver installer from there after Windows install to get connectivity. Afterwards, Windows Update will help you take care of the rest of the drivers, BIOS updates, etc. 5

[3.02 lb] While this device is a bit more underpowered than say a full custom build, it does the job or replacing a gaming console with better capabilities, as well as allows me to work from a small, stat competent machine as well. More powerful than my standard business laptop, more outputs than my standard desktop, and more than enough USB and thunderbolt ports to expand capabilities in the future. I highly recommend if you want something to replace a Sony or Microsoft console with a small, reasonably priced and capable Steam machine, or if you need a work device that has all the ports your laptop doesn't, while consuming less power than a full-on desktop. Note - the power brick is about half the size of this computer - it's big. 5

[3.02 lb] This machine replaced the aging NUC5 on my wife’s desk. I set it up with enough DRAM and storage that she should be set for another eight or nine years. Very smooth assembly and software setup, great performance on the usual office apps, extremely quiet. 5
