Q: 1. Is it possible to check this into an airport without it being considered oversized?

A: its a bit tricky ,its not heavy or too bulky but it is little over then 4 feet ,you could check it in it is quit durable so a light casing ,simple light stand bag should do the job

A: Yes, the wheels lock. In fact, locking the wheels also locks the rotation of the caster, so it doesn't even shift from the connection of the caster to the leg.

Q: 4. What is a good travel bag for this stand ?

A: Great question! I ended up trading mine in for a slightly smaller Matthews Baby Jr. Steel Wheeled Stand, so that I could fit it into a Tenba 48 Rolling Tripod/Grip Case. I fill that bag with umbrellas and smaller stands as well and it all fits (but is very heavy). It does have wheels. Good luck!

A: Yes, it has the rack mount pin opposite the t-handle so it fits well into the rack.

Q: 6. What are the measurements of the base when closed? Can they fit in a lighting bag?

A: A rough measurement around the three folded legs was 28 , about 10 between two legs and the folded height was just shy of 54 . As stated in a previous question/answer, I don't see packing this thing into a case. it's already a beast and adding the weight of a case would be a show stopper (for me). It's built like a tank so It'll handle some banging around. I've used this indoor and outdoor when I wanted a solid base and weight to counter wind. Just hope you're not carrying it far.

Q: 7. Is this stand made of steel or aluminum?

A: Rick H is correct the vertical tubes and legs are steel. The castings that grip the tubes are aluminum. This is a ROBUST light stand but if you cantilever heavy strobes and modifiers (with ballast to prevent tipping), the vertical tubes will still bow a little.
