Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the lux?

A: Unit of luminous

Q: 2. does this filter pass 5577 angstroms? I wish to pass 5577 for auroral photography, but otherwise block Na 5890 & other street lamp emissions. Maybe i can get a transmission spectrum for this filter? Otherwise, can you recommend an ideal auroral/light pollution filter? thank you.

A: Unfortunately, for whatever reason NiSI does not list the angstroms for this filter. However, I would take their word that it is: Reduces Light Pollution in Night Sky, Blocks Yellow Sodium-Vapor Light, Blocks Yellow Mercury-Vapor Light, and Blocks Yellow Light from Low CRI LEDs. If it does not, they will lose customers.

Q: 3. Will this work with the Sigma A00090 Rear Filter Holder?

A: Hi--that filter holder is only compatible with two Sigma filters; it's not compatible with this filter.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with Sigma 500mm f/4 rear drop-in filter holder?

A: Yes, the NiSi 46mm Natural Night Filter should work with the Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports Lens.

Q: 5. Two questions: (1) how thick is this filter, neglecting the thickness of the threads; and (2) why is the "filter factor" 0.6 to 1.5 stop instead of a constant value?

A: The frame is 6.2mm. But once threaded into the lens it is about 3.8mm. And the light loss is just under a stop.. It is not a range.

Q: 6. Do the boxes in this kit have a 2nd internal diffusers/baffles?

A: No. While the Impact 50 x 70 cm Softbox for Fluorescent Fixtures, B&H # IMFFSB70, and the Impact FF-OSB60 Octa Softbox (24 ), B&H # IMFFOSB60, included in the Impact Soft n' Natural Kit #3 both have a removable front diffuser, neither softbox has an internal diffuser due to the design of the softbox and light fixture (due to the size/length of the bulbs, the shallow depth of the softbox, and the fact the bulbs are inside the softbox, an internal baffle would be pressed directly against the bulbs and would be inefficient for usage).

Q: 7. Do the fluorescent bulbs that come with this set have a color cast?

A: They give off a color temp of about 5000k. It looks pretty natural on camera. Personally in post I may warm up skin tones a touch if its my only source of light, otherwise I do not worry about it in video too much.

Q: 8. Are you certain this will work with my Sigma 500mm f/4? That lens only takes a drop-in 46mm mounted on rear of lens.

A: Yes, the NiSi 46mm Natural Night Filter will work on the Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM Sports Lens.

Q: 9. If you decide to switch to using LED bulbs will it be possible to use them in this kit?

A: Both the the Impact 4 Socket Fluorescent Fixture, B&H # IMFFS4, and the Impact FF-OF4 Octa 4-Socket Fluorescent Fixture, B&H # IMFFOF4, in the Impact Soft n' Natural Kit #3 listed above will accept Edison-base LED bulbs as long as the ballast on the base of the bulb has enough clearance for the bulbs to fully screw into the light socket. Fluorescent and LED lamps may be used in these fixtures, but tungsten/incandescent lamps CANNOT be used in these light fixtures.

Q: 10. I have a DSLR camera. What other accessories would I need to buy to connect the lights in a studio lighting kit to my camera (to bridge the gap between camera and lighting equipment)?

A: Being that these are continuous lights (as opposed to a strobe/flash) there is no direct connection or cables needed to connect them to the camera. It would be the same concept as shooting indoors under whatever available lights you have or outdoors under the sun.
