Helping to reduce reflections and glare, the Hoya 67mm Linear Polarizer Filter for Photographyfrom Hoya 67mm Linear Polarizer Filter for Photographyfilters out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. By filtering this light, a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage is possible, as well as the ability to produce clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. The filter is constructed from optical glass and is mounted within a durable, lightweight aluminum ring that has a hard anodized finish to guard against wear.

A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not support the use of a camera's autofocus or auto exposure functions; it is best suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, that are not dependent on internal mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Optical glass construction maintains image clarity.

Aluminum filter ring is both lightweight and durable and features a hard anodized finish to guard against scratching and wear.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I am thinking of buying this filter or the B&W equivalent which is the best and better by how much? Thanks

A: Hoya and B+W both make some of the best filters on the market. B+W filters are among the highest quality filters available, especially the Kaesemann circular polarizer http://bhpho.to/1lEaCgA, which features Kaesemann foils, helping to provide the greatest amount of efficiency and color neutrality.

Q: 2. How many stops does this filter add to the exposure time?

A: An R72 filter will block about 7 stops of light but it will vary depending on the time of day, time of year and the anti aliasing filter that is built into your camera. Different times of the day and year have different amounts of IR light which will affect your exposure times. So you will need to experiment.

Q: 3. Is the front edge of this filter threaded for stacking another filter in front of this one, like a polarizer?

A: Yes. I just screwed one of my other filters to the front of it to verify.

Q: 4. Does this particular filter downgrade image sharpness in any way vs. not using a filter at all?

A: Technically, any glass layer in a lens system scatters light and decreases sharpness. However, the reality is good filters will not affect sharpness to any degree you can see. Frankly, other factors such as camera shake, focus, subject movement, aperture, lighting and contrast have far greater influence on image sharpness than a quality filter such as this one.

Q: 5. I recently purchased a Nikon D7100. What kind of results, if any, can I expect if I put one of these filters on it?

A: You may not get the expected results! Most cameras would not give you the effect unless you convert the camera, which will be permanent and expensive too! There are some old models which do not have built in ir cancellation mechanisms. Those are the ones which can generate ir effects.

Q: 6. How thin is this Hoya HD3 49mm UV filter?

A: This filter has a frame thickness of 5mm.

Q: 7. Can I screw on and attach a metal hood to this polarizer?

A: The, the front of this filter is threaded and can accept any other 49mm sized hood or filter.

Q: 8. what is the warranty for the 52 and 58mm HD3 UV, HD3 CPL and variable ND filters?

A: Hoya filters carry a limited lifetime warranty.

Q: 9. How thin is this Hoya 49MM HD3 UV filter?

A: It is about 3mm thick.

Q: 10. Is this filter multicoated?

A: This filter comes with Hoya's standard coating.

[0.16 lb] My original polarizer for this lens was cracked and I knew I needed a new one. I use it when taking pictures of sunsets, or if the sun is very bright throughout the day. It fits my lens well and the pricing on this item was very reasonable. I would recommend it to others. The delivery of the lens was very prompt. Ellen P.

[0.16 lb] Great polarizer, bought on a whim. My usual weapon of choice would be a Tiffen, but they were back-ordered and I was impatient. No complaints with the Hoya whatsoever and it was competitively priced. Does the job as well as any other brand and it is well-built, smooth action on the ring.
