A: Reviews have this Leica DG Summilux 12mm lens being better than the Fujifilm and Samyang 12mm lenses as far as the coma performance is concerned. If you shoot at f/1.4, there is some coma in the extreme corners but that is contained if you stop down to f/2. Overall, I would vote this the best astrophotography 12mm for MFT you can get.

Well made, small and terrific image quality all round. F1.4 is a really useful tool, especially for the Micro-4:3 format for two reasons. First, it's harder to get subject isolation in this smaller format, so speed is the answer. Secondly, recall that anything smaller that F8.0 is not desirable in Micro-4:3, since diffraction starts to impact IQ. So having a fast lens give options. The lens comes with a squared off lens hood. Some will like the look. I don't. But worse than that I'm not sure it's as effective as a simple round hood would have been. But worse still, the hood doesn't reverse. In the Micro-4:3 system, where size and portability are paramount, what were they thinking? Remember an equivalent FF lens would be 2 times the price and size. It's a great lens. Well made, excellent image quality. Small. While I find this hood annoying, I still think this is a 5-star lens. Hope this helps. 5

Moved on from a Rokinon 12mm F2 MF to this lens. Had business trip to Tokyo and picked this up locally. Pros: F1.4, super sharp in the center, absolutely great color rendition, nice bokeh (IMHO), silent and rapid AF, solid construction. Works well on Oly bodies. Cons: The price, of course, but you decide if it is worth it. As a hiker and an avid wide angle fan, this is my goto lens BUT the weight is HUGE compared with other MFT primes. I did not subtract any stars because it is lots of glass (low F) and metal construction. Just be aware that as you get older you WILL think about how much you want to lug that extra weight if you are doing mileage. 5

Great image quality, sharp and contrasty even at f1.4 Silky smooth focus ring, with the much more desirable rubber finish. Seems to produce slightly warmer colours, compared to the the Lumix lenses, though it might be artificially done in software in camera, I don't have Olympus body to compare. The new added weather seal helps a bit to justify the hefty investment compared to the 25 f1.7 5
