Q: 1. Hi. I want to remove the Camera/Umbrella Bracket from time to time to put on some sort of extension pin that is threaded at both ends to connect to my Small HD 702 bright monitor. The pin on the manfrotto 244 is a 1/4' thread. My small HD monitor is 1/4'' thread too. Is there any type of extension pin that is threaded at both ends that is out there? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

A: Hi Everyone. Thank you all for your feedback. I just purchased a great solution form B&H 1 Kupo Baby 5/8'' Grip arm Pin 1 1/4''-20 Adaptor Spigot & 1 Impact 3/8' and 1/4'-20 Adaptor Spigot. All works perfect & give me around 5 extra inches of sturdiness!

Q: 2. I"m needing to use something like this to shoot down flat/macro work. Will this support a Canon 5D3 with say 100L macro lens or 24-70L II lens?

A: You can mount it but it would not be as stable as a tripod

Q: 3. How much weight will this effectively hold?

A: Manfrotto states Load Capacity 6.6 lb

Q: 4. will this fit on a nikon d5100?

A: I really don't know how it would work on a camera. I have use my variable magic arm on my studio easel to attach another product. I have never applied this arm to a camera. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Q: 5. What is the maximal length? What is the length of each section?

A: Each section of the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket (B&H# MA244) is about 9" long. With the middle connection, the camera bracket on one end, and the pin on the other, the maximal length is 20.87" or 53 cm.

Q: 6. Is the spigot at the end removable (presumably resulting in a male threaded stud) so I can attach the arm to my MVH500AH that has a female threaded hole?

A: You will need to buy Impact 3/8" to 3/8" Adapter Spigot B&H # IMCA115 to mount your head on the arm.

Q: 7. What's in the box with this item? any threaded ends?

A: The second product photo here shows each of the two studs has a female threaded end; one slightly larger than the other, so I assume one is a 1/4" female thread, and the other is a 3/8" female thread.

Q: 8. After having received this device unassembled I now do not know how it fits back together and the instructions say absolutely nothing about assembly. There are a number of washers and discs and a long screw. I imagine the screw holds the arms together, but I do not know the proper assembly of the washers, knobs or discs. I am not pleased with this purchase already. Please help.?

Q: 9. What do I need to attach the arm to the ceiling?

A: I used the Avenger F301 Baby Wall Plate to attach to ceiling

Q: 10. May I mount one side to a dslr and the other side to a standard tripod?

A: I use a manfrotto super lamp on the bottom so you would have to see if theres a thread on the super lamp that would screw on top of your tripod

This is the kind of thing you buy and then look for ways to use it for everything. I currently use it to mount a 7 field monitor to a manfrotto tripod via a manfrotto super clamp. The arm is very sturdy and works like magic.

I purchased the magic arm primarily for use on a camera slider. I use it for shooting unorthodox angles and it helps to expand my creative possibilities. I love the ease and flexibility of mounting options and the overall sturdiness even at the most obtruse angles. The locking arm feels solid and locks everything in place firmly. I shoot with a DSLR so this arm suits my application perfectly. So far even mounted with a 5D with battery grip, a 70-200mm f/4l i've yet to be concerned about the sturdiness of the rig. I have no complaints so far and it is one of the most versatile and useful tools i have in my weapons cache! I will likely be using this for lighting setups in the near future too.

This works great. I have used it to hold a mono light and with the camera platform to set up a remote camera. Works great and attaches to just about anything you want it to. This was a great purchase.
