A: No, V-flats stand on their own. No need for stand but you can always use a light stand as a support to prevent it from falling over.

[4.8 lb] I use these on just about every product shoot. Yes, they're essentially just reflector cards. Can't you make your own? Of course. How much money will you really save? How much time will you spend? How much time and money will you spend when your first DIY attempt doesn't work so well? 5
