The ART USB II 2-Input 4-Output USB Audio MIDI Interfaceis a 2-input / 4-output USB audio and MIDI interface offering high resolution, user-friendly functionality, and a compact footprint for songwriters, beatmakers, and musicians, in personal, mobile, and project studios. It features two XLR-1/4" combo inputs with low-noise mic preamps and selectable phantom power, making it equally well suited for a variety of microphones and instruments.

The USB II utilizes 32-bit A/D-D/A converters to deliver accurate audio quality at sample rates up to 192 kHz. Outputs include stereo 1/4" main outs and a 1/4" headphone port with independent level controls and separate audio feeds—great for sending to monitors and a dedicated cue mix. The 5-pin MIDI I/O sockets on the rear panel allow easy hookup to external MIDI equipment such as a keyboard, synth, or sound module.

A front-panel switch for input monitoring lets you listen to the input signal with low latency and no routing required. Custom transformers are utilized to inhibit system noise and ground loops for quiet, quality performance. The included Cubasis LE software is a digital audio workstation that provides recording, editing, and mixing functions, perfect for getting started on your own musical creations.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with Adobe Audition on a Mac?

A: Yes, you can use the MOTU M2 USB Audio-MIDI Interface with Adobe Audition on a Mac computer.

Q: 2. does this interface work with Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro 250 ohms?

A: Yes the Motu M2 headphone output can drive 250 ohm headphones.

Q: 3. Can I connect this to an M2 mac mini using thunderbolt 4??

A: The MOTU M6 USB-C Audio/MIDI Interface uses a USB-C connection, so it is compatible with both Thunderbolt 3 and 4.

Q: 4. If I have line 1/2 with microphones, could I connect a music line from another computer? Where?

A: Line level signals can be connected to the interface, back panel; inputs 3/4.

Q: 5. Does this work with the new Apple Silicon M1 chip?

A: NO. MOTU products are not yet qualified for use with the new M1-powered Macs. The M2 and M4 bus-powered USB audio interfaces are compatible with macOS Big Sur as USB audio class compliant devices, allowing plug-and-play operation with no driver installation needed. A driver will soon be available that provides lower latency performance, loopback channels and Core Audio volume control under macOS Big Sur.

Q: 6. Is this iOS compatible?

A: According to MOTU, this audio interface is iOS compatible (USB audio class compliant), but it would need an Apple Lightning to USB 3.0 Type-A Camera Adapter, BH #APMK0W2AMA to convert the signal and to power the interface.

Q: 7. I can't get the m4 to turn itself off when the computer shuts down. Has anyone got this to work? Every other usb device does this.

A: The MOTU M4 has a physical on/ff switch, so if your computer is sleeping it will remain on. In order to have it shut down with your computer, you may have to adjust settings in your computer to stop power being sent to USB when shut down.

Q: 8. Can you apply EQ and then listen live using loop back with no latency?

A: Yes, you can. Round trip latency is just 2.5 ms, so while it is not no latency, it is about as fast as it can get in this class of interface.

Q: 9. Can we output audio from both Input 1 and Input 2 simultaneously to the usb so that we hear both inputs at the same time (mono-mix or stereo mix)?

A: Yes. This will allow two simultaneous inputs.

Q: 10. If a phantom button is pushed on, will it be memorized after the unit is turned off or disconnected?

A: As per MOTU, the unit would default to it's last settings prior to being powered down. The Phantom Power should remain on.

[110 dB ] I love knobs and audio level meters. It's like enjoying the journey and not just the destination. I purchased this so I can connect my XLR mic and record. For this purpose, it's amazing and I can stop here. However, if you are also looking to get an equally awesome DAC out of this machine, then don't. I have an ifi Zen DAC V2 connected to my setup and when I listen to both side by side, it's lear that the MOTU M2 DAC is just for monitoring.

[USB Bus Power] Bought this for home use with Macbook Air M2. I also got a USB-C hub (Sitecom) and was worried it would have issues when connecting via a hub, but it works perfectly fine. The sound is fantastic, having the display is great, and the knobs are a joy to use. Overall a very solid piece of hardware. Very happy with my purchase.

[3.14 lb] Easy to set up. Good Value. Worth the upgrade for the extra in/out ports and monitoring options. Low Latency when monitoring in a DAW. Plus the security of knowing that MOTU is best in class for MIDI routing, and this has two MIDI ports--a winning combo for an audio interface.
