Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this stand spring loaded?

A: No, it's not.

Q: 2. is this just an arm or an arm with a head?

A: If you are looking at item Impact KCP240 40 EXTENSION GRIP ARM B&H# IMKCP240 : Mfr# KCP240 then that is JUST an arm. If you would like to mount this to a stand then also get Impact KCP200 2.5 GRIP HEAD (CHROME) B&H# IMKCP200 : Mfr# KCP200 . These are good products and I have two sets of each. I hope B&H pays me handsomely for working on their behalf.

Q: 3. Is the big handle (th knuckle) fixed to the end of the rod (arm) or can it slide along the arm and be tightened along any position?

A: Yes it is fixed to the arm.

Q: 4. Is the grip head and extension arm removable, so as to add something like an Avenger D600?

A: Absolutely it is!

Q: 5. What option would I need to add a microphone thread to the end of this arm? Wanting to add a shotgun mic to this setup. Thank you!

A: You can use this mount. https://bhpho.to/3dG5PyW

Q: 6. Can you mount casters onto the legs so you can roll the stand around? If so, what size attachment?

A: There are a few C-stands that have wheels as an option, but not this one. However, you could construct a plywood platform and attach wheels to it. Just be sure to figure a way to keep the stand on the platform and balanced. Sands bags are a must when using C-stands for most uses.

Q: 7. Is the entire leg assembly removable so that two stands can be fit easily into the Sachtler C-Stand Bag B&H SACSTANDB MFR #SL2001?

A: They fold up and align together. They are not removable but I've found this is the best stand for transport. I can get 8 in the back seat floor area in my BMW 535. Great stand!

Q: 8. is this stand strong enough to hold Profoto D2?

A: If I was looking at the same light as you have it is only 7.5lb the stand will be able to handle double that weight.

Q: 9. I'm going to be using this for a DSLR camera mount for overhead photography. Does anyone have any recomendations for the best piece to use for mounting the camera to the arm?

A: There are several solutions that are available but it depends on budget and features needed. If you want to have the ability to adjust the pan and tilt of the Camera you will have to mount an adjustable head on the 5/8 stud on the C Stand. You can do this with something as simple as a double mafer clamp and a 3/8 rod screwed into the bottom of the head.

Q: 10. Can I daisy chain 2 of these to make an 80-inch extension?

A: Technically, yes. Although I wouldn't recommend it. Much better to use a boom arm, like the Avenger D600 or something that is telescopic and can be counter balanced.

[2] I'm new to the world of C-Stands, but, everyone always raves about their versatility. I would agree ten-fold, especially for this one. It is amazing for so many use cases. The turtle base kit takes it to another level. So many use cases for additional lights, modifiers, etc.

My only gripe would be, DONT GET THE BLACK VERSION. The black is just terrible quality as it is painted over the stainless vs. being infused with the stainless. It chips very quickly and will arrive damaged in transit.

Otherwise, it is a GREAT PRODUCT, and I highly recommend it.

[1] I use two of these to suspend a 96 wide backdrop. They work great.

[Aluminum, Steel] This C-Stand met with a bit of typical online consternation when it first was introduced. People were saying, “Why do we need another C-Stand?” Well, there are many reasons. It is built like a tank. The soft blue rubber grip is a big welcome when carrying it. Initially we were looking for a C-Stand that had a rocky mountain leg, and came apart so the bottom of the stand could be stored in our van and used as a turtle stand. There wasn’t anything from Matthews, American, Kupo or Manfrotto that would do this. After watching Savage’s demo video I was hooked. Self leveling leg, a short separate stand and adapter mount. All wonderful features that have been useful. The ability to slide a light unit completely into a corner of room can be a lifesaver when lighting in small spaces. The newly designed grip head, made like the jaws of a Cardellini clamp is more useful than traditional style grip heads, in that it can hold foam core, reflectors and round extension with ease-not damaging them in the process. I use the hook to hold the power supply for Aputure 300 lights. There is only a couple little things I do wish fo in the future. It would be nice for the hook assembly to fold up and lock in place. Currently it is loose and sometimes gets in the way when not needed. Also, although very stable and very well manufactured, I’d like to see some of the edges of the metal pieces be a little smoother in fit and finish. Otherwise, this is truly the evolution of the standard C-Stand. A great piece of grip kit, and I will surely get more in the near future!

[5.95 lb] Love my C-stands, had 2 though without arms or knuckles, found these on sale. Surpassed expectations. The oversized handle is especially helpful.

[5.95 lb] This was my first time buying a C-stand. After doing some research, I decided on this one. It's perfect! While it is very heavy to move around, I am thankful that it boasts the additional weight since I am not moving from set to set with it super often. It's quick to set up and once you've gotten comfortable with the spring-loaded experience, it is mindless to throw into anyone's workflow! I'm thankful to have the Grip head and arm kit, too! There are endless possibilities!

I transitioned from using extra tripods to a C-stand and it's been such a valuable experience. It saves me time on shoots and looks SO much more professional. I ended up buying a second one only a few months later. If you're an amateur or hobbyist, I think you should start by buying this stand and watch your workflow improve greatly!
