When you work in hazardous environments, industrial settings with flammable chemicals possibly in the air, or in forests fighting fires, you need a versatile and reliable light that can work as hard as you do—you need the Nightstick VIRIBUS Intrinsically Safe Rechargeable Dual-Light Lantern. Certified to not be the point of ignition and NFPA-1971-8.6 (2013)-compliant for fire equipment, the VIRIBUS brings a suite of lighting options and functions that allow you to get the job done and get you home at the end of the shift.

The light is outfitted with a powerful forward-facing white CREE LED that outputs up to 210 lumens of light and a deep smooth reflector that creates a beam optimized for a far throw. On the bottom of the head is another white CREE LED that directs its beam downward, so you can see debris or obstacles before you trip over them. If you need to maximize the light coverage, you can activate both the flashlight and floodlight simultaneously. Additionally, there are two rear-facing green LEDs that mark your position for those following behind you. In an emergency the flood and marker lights have a power-saving flashing "survival" mode that acts as a beacon in emergencies and extends the battery life to days instead of hours. All the lights, outputs, and modes are accessed from two side-toggle switches that are placed right by the carry handle for easy access.

The red glass-filled nylon polymer housing is impact, chemical, and temperature resistant to withstand whatever you throw at it. The entire light is IP67-rated to be dust and waterproof as well as submersible to over 3 feet so it (and you) can get doused with a hose and keep working. A removable carry strap is included for convenience and safe hands-free use, and since the light weighs just a little over 2 pounds, it's nice when you need to have the light with you for your whole shift. A li-ion battery pack is provided to drive the light, plus a charging cradle with both AC and DC charging cords so you can keep the light in your workshop, office, cruiser, or truck and top off the charge quickly and easily.

[5 Hours] Last winter in Texas we had five days with no power. I had these lanterns with fluorescent bulbs that were about 40 years old. They were fine when the power went out for a couple of hours. They were giant, about 18 inches tall, but not real bright by todays standards. I have a couple of LEDLENSER flashlights that became our only light source. They lasted, with a couple of battery changes, through the whole blackout. My wife told me to replace the old lanterns. So, I bought an ML6 and an ML4. I did not consider any other brands because the flashlights have survived the rough treatment by my 3 year old grandchild. My wife could not get over how bright they were and how much light they put out. I only wish that I had bought them before the winter storm took away our electricity.

[Nylon] I bought this lamp for six reasons.
1. You can use it hands free, very useful when you are hauling your photo gear and a tripod.
2. You can adjust the angle of the beam by turning the light on its central axis
3. You can adjust the size of the beam by rotating the front lens.
4. It can produce a bright light of 1000 lumens
5. The rechargeable battery has enough capacity to produce 1000 lumens for a couple of hours and by choosing a lower lumen light options (available through light switch) it can go much longer.
6. It is USB chargeable.

In the couple of months that I have used it, it has performed beautifully on all counts. I am impressed. The only remaining item is long term reliability but so far a great job indeed.

I have often found it far easier and more comfortable to wear it around my neck (rather than on my head) as I am usually wearing a winter jacket and found this way to be far more comfortable with the elastic strap going around the collar of my parka and the battery hanging over my chest.

I do have a suggestion regarding charging it with the micro USB cable supplied with the battery. Instead of disconnecting the micro end of the cable from the battery box, keep the micro end of the cable permanently connected to the battery box and tie the charging cable (after folding etc) with a velcro tape to the coiled cable which connects the battery to the lamp. Then use the other (regular USB) end of the cable to connect (and disconnect ) to a USB hub. This way there is no danger of damaging the micro end which is built into the battery holder and any damage there shall render the whole light worthless and such damage is not easy to repair. In other words, leave the micro end permanently connected.

All in all, I am very satisfied and , in my opinion, it is a great value.
Five stars.

Ajeet S.
