Pre-configured for RAID 5, the Mercury Elite Pro Quad features advanced RAID capabilities, letting you choose the best option for your workflow. Whether you want massive capacity through a single large array, need maximum performance up to 947 MB/s, or redundancy to keep your data secure, the Mercury Elite Pro Quad gives you the option of OWC's proprietary SoftRAID engine or Windows-supported RAID modes.

Built with a heat-dissipating aluminum enclosure, a whisper-quiet fan, and vibration-absorbing feet, the Mercury Elite Pro Quad is designed to run cool and quietly, making it ideal for noise-sensitive environments. Front-facing LEDs provide an instant drive-activity snapshot, while the front panel access lock helps to keep your drives safe. You can also secure the entire drive with the rear-mounted Kensington compatible lock slot. OWC's multi-hour drive "burn-in" performance certification procedure helps to ensure that your drive arrives operating properly and ready to perform.

Q: 1. I am using a single SSD - the LED corresponding to the EMPTY slot is red. Can you confirm that this is expected behavior?

A: Lower than RAID 0, but not substantially so.

Q: 3. Does this enclosure put the drive to sleep after a few minutes of activity? I'm NOT referring to the MacOS system settings.

A: The OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini 2.5" SATA to USB Type-C Portable Storage Enclosure does not have any internal processing capability. It is a purely "passive" enclosure which does not have any ability to regulate itself without input from the operating system.

A: Included are 4 x 14TB drives.

Q: 5. Will a Samsung 870 QVO 8TB SSD fit in this enclosure and will it work with the current MacOS?

Q: 8. Does this unit power up and power down with your machine?

A: Yes with my MacBook Pro - powered directly and shuts down when the Power down your machine.

Q: 9. Do all 4 drives have to be the same make, model, and size?

A: It is best to use identical drives from the same manufacturer when possible, but you can mix drives. You will want to keep them the same speed and size in most cases.

Q: 10. Can I use this for TimeCapsule on Multi-Mac environment and just skip all the OWC Softraid software issues ?

A: Yes, the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad 4-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Enclosure can be used with Time Machine.

[4x 2.5"/3.5"] I installed two SATA SSDs in mine and configured a RAID 1 array. It's no bigger than a couple of slim external DVD writers stacked together. It does weigh quite a bit more but beats juggling two external drives. It appears in Windows as a USB storage device and thus can be formatted and BitLockered. Overall, it's my main portable archive for important files.

[SATA III] works well! No problems, put 4 10TB drives and was easily able to create a RAID5 array with SoftRaid.

[, RAID 0/1/5] I always seem to be upgrading drives and this enclosure means that I don't have to change around my workspace. These are solid metal and look good in a Mac environment. I also love that it's BUS powered so that there are less cables to deal with. I did have some OWC express cases but they were plastic and cheap by comparison.

[SATA III] My setup is TWO 8TB Samsung SSDs in a Raid-0 configuration for a total of 16TB. Drive is reliably bus powered with my MacBook Air M2 or OWC thunderbolt hub, so no need for the included power adapter. The enclosure is very good at keeping things cool. I'm getting 579mb/s write and 810mb/s read times (its a tad slower when encrypted). I use the drive for my photo archives, for which it's plenty fast. Much faster than my old 24TB raid g-drive.

Cons. You can't turn off the blinking blue lights, so I put a little gaffers tape over them. The included usb-c cable is very very stiff, so I got a more pliable Anker TB4 cable. The included screws to hold the drives in are poor quality. The enclosure could be made smaller if they just made it just big enough for SSDs.
