Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where are the specs for the boom arm??

A: If you want to see a full list of specs for just the boom arm by itself, you can look at the listing for item # 085BSL

Q: 2. what size is the diameter of the pole. 35mm? etc.

A: The diameter is 20mm

Q: 3. Does it come with the spigot for the boom? Thanks in advance.

A: Yes a 5/8" spigot is included with the arm.

Q: 4. What are the dimensions of the wall mounting bracket?

A: The plate measures 9 7/8" X 3 9/16".

Q: 5. What mounting hardware does this come with? I'm planning on mounting to a brick wall -- is the hardware sufficient?

A: The Manfrotto 098B Wall Mounting Boom Arm, Black - 47.2-82.6" (1.2-2.1m) BH #MA098B does not come with mounting hardware. You will need to get the right form of bolts or anchors depending on the wall you will mount it to.

Q: 6. How long is it?

A: I believe is 21 3/4 . I use it for holding small lights or light shades when shooting macro photography in a studio.

Q: 7. Im thinking about buying it to use with a Selens 75' (12.05 pounds). Does this arm will hold it?

A: The maximum load capacity of the Manfrotto 085BS Heavy-Duty Boom and Stand at full extension is 13.2 lbs (6kg) with the included 15 lbs (7kg) counterweight. If you use a larger counterweight or use the boom arm at a shorter distance (not at full extension), it can support more weight. As you state your setup weighs 12.05 lbs, it should be compatible for use with the Manfrotto 085BS Heavy-Duty Boom and Stand at full extension.

Q: 8. Can this hold a 21" LED flapjack light (about 7-8lbs), say mounted as overhead/straight-down for table shooting? (via SuperClamp attached to table, then Avenger grip-head to angle this pole 45º, then LED light pointed down towards table) Also, same question, but for mounting a Sony A7iii camera/lens setup (about 1400gram or 3lbs setup) for overhead/straight-down shooting on table?(via SuperClamp attached to table, then Avenger grip-head to angle this pole 45º, then small ballhead, then camera/lens setup pointed down towards table)

A: This arm has a 2lb load capacity.

Q: 9. What is the total actual height not just the 6-12" adjustment?

A: The K&M Tablet Stand with Boom Arm (Black), B&H # KM19789B, has a maximum height of 64 inches.

Q: 10. This boom arm was suggested by B&H. I need a versatile system that will hold Buff Einstein and medium soft box with no problem?

A: If the combined weight of your equipment weighs less than 13.2 lbs (6 kg), then yes, the Manfrotto Heavy Duty Boom Arm, Black - 9' (2.7m) would work for use with your equipment.

[0.8 lb] I used the boom arm attached to a light stand for off camera flash. It is stong and well constructed.

[1] I ordered this boom arm kit for portraits so I can position my Nikon SB900 speedlight overhead and close to my subjects without my light stand (or my speedlight) being in the way. Just like any Manfrotto gear It's an awesome piece of equipment. It feels very sturdy and well made. I don't know how it would perform with a regular Monolight but for speedlights this is great. I do wish it was a tad longer though (like the Manfrotto 173HOB) with maybe a 4 lbs or a 5 lbs counterweight. I like the Counterweight that comes bundled with this arm. It's very compact and attaches well to the arm and the bright orange color makes it easy to spot on the set, which I think is good from a safety stand point. If you're gonna be shooting outdoor with a large umbrella in a windy situation and without an assistant, I would much recommend getting 2 or 3 additional counterweights like the included 3 lbs CounterWeight or the 10 lbs model (Manfrotto 023 CounterWeight - 10 lbs) and attach them to the legs of your light stands. I feel this is a much more elegant solution compared to Sandbags. And of course, having a lightstand with a large footprint diameter also helps in the overall stability of your setup when using a boom arm. If you don't have a clamp, the Manfrotto - 124 Clamp for 3085 Boom Arm is a pretty good addition to this item. One quick note: this is listed as a silver finish and, I don't know if it was a mistake from B&H but this item came with the Manfrotto 173B arm (BLACK FINISH) with the 3 lb counterweight. I like the black finish much better since it also matches my lightstand.

[42.5 x 5 x 0.5"] This arm is really useful for my home setup where I do livestreams and shoot videos. The threads on the end make it easy to mount mics or small lights. it comes with these nice rubber caps to screw over the ends when you're not using the threads. I have a stand that has a boom clamp thingy, so it works well.

[1] Great quality boom pole. Definitely a little longer than expected so probably not the best choice for a mobile setup but does give you the freedom of a wider shot without the boom in the way. Definitely worth the money.

[0.8 lb] Certainly a lot longer than I thought, however a wonderful item and even came with a nice brass 3/8 to 1/4 adapter on the end. Works with my knuckles perfectly!

[0.8 lb] Needed a way to mount a shotgun microphone to an overhead rod, but couldn't figure out how to drop the mic down low enough to speak into. This Manfrotto boom arm was perfect! Has threads on both ends so you can mount one end to a clamp, the other to a microphone or camera, or whatever you need. Simple, well made, love it. Only thing that would make it better would be a telescoping function (like a shower rod) to adjust length, but for me this length was perfect.

[1] Great boom arm, it is only 43 inches but, is long enough for many uses in studio or on location. It is a lightweight boom arm designed to use with the newer smaller more compact strobe heads and it is very well made. You will need to have your own counter weight setup as this is a boom only. I own several other larger Manfrotto booms so, if you are using heavier strobe heads and need a lot of length then choose another boom.
