Expand your home or small office network by using the Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch 10X 10-Port Gigabit PoE Managed Switch SFPto grow your device capacity. Optimized for Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) deployments, the EdgeSwitch 10X features eight Gigabit Ethernet ports with a 20 Gb/s switching capacity and a non-blocking throughput of 10 Gb/s. Its eighth port is PoE-compliant, supporting software-selectable 24V passive PoE passthrough from PoE input on Port 1 or via the external power adapter, for radio antennas and other powered devices. Two Gigabit SFP ports are available for fiber connectivity. The fully managed switch is designed to operate quietly on desktops but can be adapted to a rackmount with a separate kit. You can configure EdgeSwitch 10X and its connected devices with the browser-based tool or use the Ubiquiti Network Management System to manage EdgeMAX devices across multiple networks.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this be good for gaming on multiple devices, streaming on twitch, and other workloads at the same time? would my ping go up ingame?

A: This device will handle gaming workloads without any issues. It is a business class device designed for higher throughput.

Q: 2. is the switch configured with a web browser of the controller software?

A: The Switch will try to auto setup its IP via DHCP if that fails it will default to 192.168.1.2. You can use that address to use the interface.

Q: 3. Does it have RADIUS auth option?

A: Yes, the Ubiquiti Networks ES-5XP EdgeSwitch XP 5-Port Advanced Gigabit PoE Managed Switch, B&H # UBES5XP, supports RADIUS authentication.

Q: 4. is the unfi version any better? Or is it just that controller bring all the stats to the on web page?

A: Unifi needs a controller, Edgeswitch has a built in web intertface and CLI for advanced users. I think the hardware is identical.

Q: 5. How many of the 16-port switch's ports support PoE+?

A: All ports *support* PoE+ but I suspect that's not what you're asking. The max per-port power is 34.2W and the max *shared* power is 150W so you could in theory be limited to 4 usable ports if your individual devices were drawing 34W. In the real world you'll need to account for the actual peak power draw of each PoE+ device. PoE+ is 15W+ (otherwise it's just PoE) so with the most *minimal* PoE+ devices drawing 15W+ you might be able to use 9 or 10. If you want to fully load the switch with power hungry devices then you probably want one of the 24-port switches with more available power.

Q: 6. I know very little about PoE. Any problems hooking up non PoE devices to a PoE switch?

A: No, the devices communicate so the power is sent correctly and accordingly.

Q: 7. Does this have to be used for connecting computers to the internet? I want to use it for connecting multiple BMD 4K monitors to 1 computer.

A: the switch is just for Ethernet! So you can use this to connect to the Ethernet ports of the BMD 4k but that will NOT give you any video signal. That is done via the SDI connection. The Ethernet is just for control and monitoring of the monitors. Bottom line You do not use this for video.

Q: 8. How can this be considered POE when it meets no POE standard? What the heck is Ubiquiti trying to pull here... This won't work for my Dante - Studio Tech gear...

A: This model is POE compatible and does inject some wattage into the line, which may or may not be enough to power all of your devices: Electrical Power Draw 8.0 W DC Input Power 24 VDC at 2.5 A PoE per Port 15 W

Q: 9. Why can I see everything connected to this toughswitch like a hub instead of only the device on the port I am connected to? Is this actually a switch?

A: Please clarify your question. If you configure the ports to be on the same (or no) VLAN then you will see all devices on all ports.Switch works very well.

Q: 10. I expect the PoE demand to be on only 3 to 4 ports and about 30 watts total. Are the fans thermostatically controlled perhaps not running at all?

A: The fans are thermostatically controlled. In a standard room temp environment they might come on twice a day for 2mins. If the fans are too loud for you environment you can replace them with Noiseblocker fans.

[15 to 15 W] I use these switches whenever POE is needed. The throughput is optimal especially with the Fiber. It is easy to mount and configure with the Unifi client.

[1.575 lb] I use the EdgeSwitch 8-Port 150-Watt switch in a cooled room and it is good for powering all of our PoE wireless equipment. The value is good and inexpensive enough that you can self warranty. I have had a few of these switches and would buy again (if they are in stock - grrr)
