Despite predictions of cataclysmic doom from Olympus, the batteries charged without a mishap using the more intelligent Wasabi wall charger. On a recent daytrip to New York City I got over 1100+ photos from the two batteries, or averaged 550+ photos per battery. This was using the camera in single shot mode (never burst mode), no flash, and no video. The batteries come with a set of instructions for those of us that have an IQ of less than 70. Thank goodness for the instructions because I was thinking of storing the batteries in cat urine. I was even thinking of disassembling the batteries but the instructions kept me on the right track. And, when a neighbor's child swallowed one, I knew what to do. My friend and I were going to play handball with the batteries but then I recalled the sage advice from the instructions not to throw the batteries. Phew! That was a close one. Way to go Olympus! Don't show any respect to your customers.

The choice to buy a battery that is not sold by the camera manufacturer, though it might save 50% or more in cost, comes with a compromise that I am no longer willing to make. Too many times I have taken an off brand battery from my bag, and even though it was topped off on the charger the day before, had it drop dead on me after a few shots. Batteries do not live forever, I know. But the batteries sold by the camera manufacturer, do seem to live longer and perform more reliably. I am wiling to pay twice the price for the reliability. (But I do wish it weren't necessary. :-)
