Offering the signature, high-end sound the company is known for, as well as the possibility of outputting digital signal over modern networking platforms, the Focusrite ISA 828 MkII 8-Channel Preamp for Mic, Line, Hi-Zis an eight-channel microphone preamp with mic, line, and instrument connections. This MkII version offers an updated power supply, which provides more efficient power consumption at lower temperatures. Also, the ISA 828 MkII is compatible with Dante networks, should you load it with the separately available ISA ADN8 card.

The preamp makes use of a Lundahl LL1538 input transformer to give you the sound of the original classic Focusrite preamps. Just press the ISA 110 switch to activate that vintage sound. The microphone input stage provides a variable impedance circuit. The gain range is a very healthy 80 dB, making the unit suitable for use with low-output dynamic and ribbon microphones.

Channels one through four include DI inputs that feature high- and low-impedance options, delivering a comprehensive and accessible DI solution for electric guitars and basses. Pair the device with the separately available ISA ADN8, and you'll have a great front end, one that works equally well in studios and complicated live-sound settings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this boost an XLR signal a further distance? I have a cable run of ~250ft and am trying to assure that I don't lose a signal.

A: The Rolls Mini-Mic Preamp is not really designed for boosting signal on a long cable run. For ~250 feet, you should use high quality shielded audio cables to avoid signal loss and if you do need to increase the gain without adding noise, you might want to try the Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator (B&H # CLCL1) which improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs.

Q: 2. Does this come with a power adapter? If so, can it work for 110v to 220v?

A: Yes, the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp includes the Rolls PS27s 15 Vdc 500ma 100-240VAC power adapter.

Q: 3. What is this? Not sure. It does not even have a USB interface. Why does it show up here under AUDIO INTERFACES then?

A: Hello,This is an 8 channel preamp that you can connect to an interface via ADAT (Optical)

Q: 4. Does this work with Focusrite Control software?

A: This unit will show up as digital inputs in the Focusrite Control Software, when connected to the ADAT input of an a compatible Focusrite interface.

Q: 5. Does this provide "plug in" power to the 3.5mm input jack?

A: Yes, the Rolls MP13 will supply plug-in power to the 3.5mm mic input.

Q: 6. Will this work to power and amplify a condenser mic fed into a 3-way line splitter, specifically a Whirlwind SP1X3LL?

A: The Rolls MP13 is able to power a condenser mic and the output can be connected to a splitter such as the Whirlwind SP1X3LL. The MP13 however only offers 36v of phantom power and would not be recommended for mics who require a full 48v. Many mics are able to operate at a range of voltages from 9v - 52v and you should check your mics requirements before purchase.

Q: 7. Can this also be used for line level signal? ex: to a powered speaker

A: Yes, the Shure A15HP In-Line High Pass Filter can be used for line level signal. Even though its main use is for microphones, the A15HP can also be used for other audio applications to reduce low frequencies below 100 Hz.

Q: 8. How much power does this draw?

A: Rolls does not specify. It is very low ()14-24 VDC. Please refer to the schematic below:a href= http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/89467.pdf target= _blank http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/89467.pdf/a

Q: 9. I'm using Cubase as DAW and Fireface UC . Can I connect Art TubeOpto 8 to Fireface and control/record all to Cubase?

A: Yes you can. I recommend attaching the Art via the ADAT out optical port to the ADAT in port on the FireFace. That will send all 8 channels digitally to the FireFace for recording into Cubase.

Q: 10. Needing a amplified microphone to do voiceover on live dvd recording?

A: You don't need it, but a pre amp is a good idea!

[20.04 lb] I bought this to supplement my Manley and Presonus preamps in my studio. The ISA One is VERY transparent, and sounds great on any mic I plug into it. Plus the headphone out option is very handy when tracking vocalists in the booth so I can hear them while I'm arming and disarming tracks without any cutout in my monitors. Great value and very portable.

[20.04 lb] I was looking for portable mic pre that was quiet and transparent to add to my arsenal. I've also downsize significantly from the last jo, (with room full of gear) to a single desk, software plugins and rack-less gear that occupies a small footprint. The ISA One fits that desire nicely. It's very quiet and absolutely transparent. Which matters to me when I edit in post and not have to consider hardware added character, or going the extra mile when I find a need to cover it up or remove it. Especially when applying filters to work within the floor and to remove subtle room noise, staying in the gaps where its needed without cutting into the content. Upon first hookup and dial in, I was really surprised at how quiet my treated room is and that my previous gear, even when zero gained, still added something to the mix, (I had to confirm that with previous work that I thought was quiet). This simply adds nothing but gain only. In the past, most of my stuff wound up as highly compressed on the web, or going back to tape and noise was gained anyway due to the conversion. Not anymore. The edge this tool gives me will be realized in the final render. Glad I bought it.

[80 dB] I picked up one of these as a quick purchase to give some extra boost to my Shure SM7b. I do have another brans inline preamp that I also really like, honestly the price on this was low enough for me to take the risk.

I am certainly impressed with the Polsen. It does what it says, and it does it well. For the price, it's a no-brainer if you're looking to add some oomph to your dynamic, or ribbon mics with little to no added noise! I'll be ordering more for my studio. Recommended.

[20.04 lb] The $30 preamps have noise and the good ones are $100 and up. This is perfectly placed. It's worth the $50, for sure. I thought 30dB gain was too much, but both the PC interface and the DAW software benefitted from tweaking their gain down. MY SE V7 is an amazing voiceover mic now, and would be a fantastic podcaster mic.
