Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this safe for exterior use (moisture resistant, etc.) ?

A: The Rycote SC-08 Small-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone can be used outdoors, but the mic itself is not moisture-resistant. However, the Rycote SGM foam windscreen that is included with the mic does provide some protection from moisture, and the mic's internal circuitry is corrosion-resistant.

Q: 2. Can I plug this into a 3.5mm mini input on my DSLR and camcorder with a Kopul LMT-100 adapter on the end?. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885062-REG/kopul_lmt_100_lo_to_hi_impedance.html

A: This mic can not be directly plugged into the 3.5mm input of a camera since they require 48v to operate. If you did want to connect this to a camera, you would a mixer with an xlr input and phantom power such as this BH #SASRPAX1.

Q: 3. Will this mic work properly off 15v church fixed phantom power?

A: This mic will operate properly on a range of 44 to 52 Volts phantom power.

Q: 4. Can I use the Rode NT5 (matched pair) for choir recording? Thank you.

A: Yes, that is what I am using them for. They sound great even from a distance of 20 feet. This is quite remarkable considering our choir does not face the microphones, but rather face each other. Our choir is located in the back of the church in a balcony. I mounted them on the side pillars and angled them towards the choir.

Q: 5. Does this require phantom power to run? And can it pass phantom power on to, say, a condenser mic?

A: This does require phantom power to run, however it will not pass phantom power. The booster is intended for use with dynamic and ribbon mics.

Q: 6. are you gonna be bring more of this beauty? because of the russia sanctions. am worried about warranty

A: The Soyuz Microphones SU-023 Bomblet is available by special order only. Warranty service for products purchased in the United States is handled through the company's office in Los Angeles, California.

Q: 7. How/where do you mount these if micing a grand piano?

A: While there are many ways to mic a grand piano, the most straight forward approach would be to place each of these on boom mic stands, and place one over the bass portion of strings, and the other over the treble portion. Please make sure the distance from string to capsule are the same for each mic, and that if above the strings at 1', the mics are separated by 3' of space.

Q: 8. Is this suitable for stereo Audio/Video recording in an X/Y arrangement?

A: Yes. This is a matched stereo pair.

Q: 9. Is there a mic capsule power supply like Sennheiser offers available for purchase?

A: Thank you for your question. This unit does not have a capsule power supply available, you will only need to connect to a mic pre amp that can provide +48V of Phantom power

Q: 10. Can I use these mics to record instrument and orchestral ensemble?

A: Yes, the matched pair of RODE NT5 Cardioid Studio Condenser Microphones can be used to record instruments and orchestral ensembles.

[White] Absolutely love this mic. For the price it is an absolute bargain. It sounds great, it’s built really well, and since it is a more sensitive mic you don’t have to jack up your gain making it really versatile.

[External PSU] My first chance to use them was for a live University Commencement ceremony streamed from a 3000-seat gymnasium. I used one on a Yamaha C3 piano and the other overhead on a brass quintet. I usually use 2) AKG 451 for this set up but tried the Lewitts and was thrilled by the presence and sparkle these mics show. What a value!

[1" / 25 mm] I'm using this with my PreSonus 24c Digital Audio interface connected to my M1 Max, Macbook Pro laptop.

I spend a lot of time on conference calls, and don't like wearing headsets and so I've been using a digital audio interface with an XLR mic for a few years to not have to use headsets or bluetooth earpieces when working with customers. My initial setup had a cheap(ish) Condenser mic from Audio-Technica. It worked well, and sounded better than my headsets or my airpods, but still picked up a lot more background noise than I would have liked.

This mic is a huge upgrade. The sound quality is definitely much better and my voice comes through much nicer. But it's also more focused. It picks up much less background noise from other places in the house and does a much better job isolating on me talking.

I'm not an audiophile. I'm not recording audiobooks or doing music of any kind. I'm occasionally recording technical guidance videos, but mostly I'm just on Zoom calls. For what I'm doing, this is probably a luxury item upgrade, but it's definitely an upgrade. If I ever start podcasting or streaming, I'll definitely be even happier to have this mic than I am already!

[-20 dB] Got as a voice experiment. Bright without harshness, long low end....super-clear! I did a voice EQ for the usual 80hz rolloff, a 'de-boxing' section for my booth, and a slow roll-down, 1khz to 10khz, -3dB. It's just magical for voiceover. It EQs like a good dynamic but has incredible precision... just keep the slopes long and light.

[External PSU] This is a mic that belongs in major studios across the country. On vocals, it gives a warmth and fullness to the voice that must be heard to be believed. Let any singer try this microphone and they'll be asking for it again, I promise. I'm a vocalist myself and I've tried a lot of different mics over the years, across different budgets. This is the mic I'd choose. As an engineer, I'd use it everyday. It's great on vocals, yes, but it can work for any other application you'd use an LDC for.

An added bonus is that it looks great! Classy, vintage, and it stands out from the crowd. If you see this mic anywhere, you'll instantly recognize it. and even though when it comes to mics looks technically don't matter, that's still good product development - something users can immediately recognize.

I've not found any flaws. It's pricey, yes, and this isn't a purchase someone should make if they're not serious about making music. But once you try it out you'll see why it costs what it does. It will last forever, and you'll never want to get rid of it!

Deep, deep and again deep!
I think Sinatra would highly respect this mic!
