This 2-stop, 4 x 4" Kodak #96 Wratten 2 Optical Gel ND Filter creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time, you can create motion blur for special effects or to convey a sense of movement. Opening your iris allows you to create shallow depth of field, which can help isolate your subject. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

Kodak Wratten 2 gelatin filters are more durable than the previous Wratten series filters. This filter can withstand temperatures up to 122°F, and features a polyurethane top coat for increased usable life. When not in use, the filter should be stored flat and in a cool (78°F), dark, and low-humidity environment with less than 50% relative humidity.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If proper care is taken, I'm just curious as to the longevity/ quality of these filters? Will they last more than 6 months? Many years?

A: In our experience the main danger to longevity is water or solvent damage. The other issue would be if they become scratched. In a good clean environment I would expect you to get several years use.

Q: 2. Does this PCI card work with Windows 11?

A: The Sonnet M.2 4x4 Silent PCIe 3.0 x16 Card for NVMe SSDs (BH #SOFSSSD44E3S) is compatible with Windows 11.

Q: 3. Does this card support hardware RAID 5 or does it depend on OS software RAID?

A: Yes, this does support RAID 5.

Q: 4. Is this filter just loose Wratten or does it have a cardboard frame or something to make it more rigid in the filter holder?

A: The Kodak 4x4" (100mm) 85N9 Color Conversion Wratten 2 Optical Gel Filter does not come with a cardboard frame to make it more rigid in the holder. The filter will work fine without additional framing.

Q: 5. will this work on Magma EB3T ExpressBox 3T? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889096-REG/Magma_eb3t_Three_Slot_Thunderbolt_to_PCI.html

A: No this card would not be compatible.

Q: 6. Can these be cut to fit the rear gel filter holder of a 14mm lens?

A: Yes the Wratten filters can be cut and used in most rear filter mounted lenses.

Q: 7. Works with HP z6 Workstations?

A: Yes, it is compatible.

Q: 8. Thin enough to fit in the rear filter holder of the Tamron 15-30mm 2.8 G2 for Canon?

A: Yes.

Q: 9. Does this fit my Sony FE 14 1.8 GM or 12-24 2.8 GM and does it require trimming?

A: Yes, this would fit either of those lenses. This would need to be cut down. Both those lenses come with a filter cutting template that makes it easier to cut to size.

Q: 10. I imagine this is just a piece of plastic. Do you suggest a way that I can mount it so that I can carry it in my pocket while photographing?

A: Gel filters such as this one are made out of gelatin and are not rigid like plastic. I would not advise carrying this type of filter in your pocket, as they scratch quite easily.

[Optical Gelatin] I am using this in the rear filter slot of a 10.5mm Nikor fisheye lens to help reduce shutter speed for various immersive VR panoramic landscape photography projects. With no way to mount filters on the front of such a lens, this is the only way to go if you want, for instance, to get a longer exposure on flowing water in full daylight.

[0.05 lb] I just want to say thanks for a great service. I use this filter on an 11-24mm zoom lens. It has a filter holder at the rear of the lens where I slide in the gelatin ND. It allows me to do long exposures which blurs people and other moving objects. Being gelatin it is delicate and tricky to handle but I knew that before I purchased it.

[Solid ND] For those of you that remember the special emulsions or films you needewd to do near infrared photography, you probably also remember that to take infrared photos, you have to have a filter that filters out the visible light. Luckily, CCD cameras are sensitive to both near infrared (light past the red spectrum) AND ultraviolet. With the Wratten 87 filter, the camera sees only what is past the visible spectrum. These filters are indispensable if you want to do IR photography.....they are available in glass as well, but the gel filters are much more affordable.Depending on what kind of camera you have, you may need a gelatin filter adapter...they are ubiquitous at any DSLR camera parts supplier.....Since I use a cheap pocket camera (eg a Canon Coolpix S9500), I simply hold the wratten filter over the lens, or construct a simple adapter....you can find references all over the web for this stuff.....The wratten filters may be cut into any shape.....NB: You can use an infrared laser as an illuminator for night photography, but of course it's spectral output must match that of the filter.....Look up Infrared and Ultraviolet photography on wikipedia for more info....have fun!

[Optical Gelatin] The price is a little steep, but it's tough to beat the light weight of this ND gel, which is optically good enough to use in front of a camera lens. I use mine with my Phantom 3, which doesn't stress the gimbal, which is finely tuned to the weight of the camera. Most ND filters weigh at least 10 grams, and that will throw a gimbal out of whack over time. I was able to cut 4 filters from the size provided, so go in on these with your Phantom-flying friends to bring the cost down.

[0.05 lb] The Wratten 90 viewing filter helps you visualize what a scene will render as black and white. Treat it gently, but use it to take your creative visualization to a new level.

[Optical Gelatin] This is exactly what you would expect... a thin, gelatin filter that is extremely fragile. I wouldn't recommend any gelatin filter if it is going to be exposed to the elements... too fragile. Wratten filters are engineered with very high qc standards and are recognized as such by the fact that many scientific laboratories utilize Wratten filters for their optical equipment. If you have a need for a filter that passes or restricts specific frequencies, I would suggest purchasing a Kodak filter guidebook so you know exactly which filters will satisfy your needs, and then buying the corresponding Wratten filter. If you don't have such exacting needs, you may be better off going with a filter system such as Cokin, where they will be slightly more durable.

[Solid ND] I'm using this to reduce purple fringing with the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 lens on the Olympus E-M5. I cut a small bit of the filter and adhered it over the rear element with double-sided tape. I've been using this solution since early May without any problems. It virtually eliminates purple fringing often seen in the image corners with this body-lens combination.
