The waterproof Pelican 1745AirWF Hard Case with Foam Insert Blackis a crushproof hard case made from lightweight HPX2 polymer that will protect and store sensitive gear. The case secures with an updated push-button latching system that uses compressive force to tightly clamp the case shut on three sides. Internally, this is 29.6" long, so it might fit a few 6' stands, but maybe not a 8~10' depending on its dimensions. A: The D5, the NIKKOR 600mm f/4E, and the hood will be approximately 28" in length. However, the width of the case is in only 29.6" so there is not enough room for enough padding. 3" is a minimum for such a large lens. As a motion picture camera assistant who routinely worked with $100,000 cine lenses and shipped them frequently, I can tell you that shipping an expensive lens with the hood on is not recommended. The case could be dropped and the leverage of the hood could cause very expensive damage to an already expensive lens. I understand the desire to have the camera, lens and hood all set ready to go because no one wishes to lose a special shot. However, for the long haul, I strongly recommend that you not ship the lens attached to the hood or even the camera. Shipping your camera and lens unattached will mean your gear will arrive safely and be ready to work properly.
