Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When using the safety track feature of the VideoMic NTG, one channel is at normal volume while the other channel is at -20db. Can the VideoMic NTG be connected to two XLR inputs on a Zoom H5 so that I can record each channel independently? If so, what cables would I need?

A: Yes, the selectable Safety channel reduces the right channel by 20 dB. While the 3.5mm connector may be "split to left and right, the design is meant to record this safety channel to a camera, or a mobile phone.

Q: 2. With the update firmware 2.0, can you now use regular apple USB-C to Lightning cable to connect the mic to an ipod touch (6th generation)?

A: Thanks to firmware version 2.0, the VideoMic NTG is now MFi-certified for use with Lightning-equipped Apple iOS mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod) when paired with the Rode SC15 USB Type-C to Lightning accessory cable (available separately). Q: 3. Hi When is the release date for this item?

A: The most recent estimated delivery date that Rode has provided is December 22nd.

Q: 4. Can I plug microphone into the canon c100?

A: This mic is designed to work with a camera that has a 3.5mm input, a mobile device or to connet USB directly to a computer. Rode does say that you can use a Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLRP to connect into the mic preamp of a camera with 48 volt phantom power, but I would suggest to use a camera shotgun mic with a balanced XLR output. A good example would be the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLRP.

Q: 5. Will this mount to the RODE PSA1 Studio ARM?

A: It will munt using this adapter https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1325276-REG/auray_ad_5838_b_mic_stand_adapter.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 6. This or videomic pro+ for outdoor recording? Run and gun style. And which picks sounds better from far distance. 2m

A: No it is not for Run and Gun. This mic will pick up to about 61/2'.

Q: 7. Can the battery be replaced?

A: No

Q: 8. can this mic work with phantom power instead of the internal battery?

A: No

Q: 9. Does anyone else have issues with the auto on/off on a Lumix S1H?

A: The VideoMic NTG is compatible with the Lumix S1H and the auto on/off function for the mic should work properly. We are not aware of any issues. I would recommend disconnecting the mic and turning the power off for both the camera and mic, then starting over for the setup. Connect the mic to the camera with power off for both, then turn on power for the camera and the mic should power on automatically. When you are ready to turn off power for the camera and mic, use the power button on the camera only and don't touch the power button on the mic. The camera's power button should function as the master power control for the mic. Rode does note that if you manually switch the mic on using its power button and then plug it into the camera or turn the power on for the camera separately, you will need to switch the mic's power off manually. So to make sure the auto on/off feature operates correctly, start with the power off for both the mic and camera, then only use the camera's power button to control them. If you are still experiencing problems with the auto on/off feature, I suggest contacting tech support at Rode directly. They are very helpful in resolving most issues and will be able to confirm whether you may need to update firmware or if there is another issue preventing the mic from functioning properly. You can reach Rode by phone at 562-364-7400. Their US office is located in California.

Q: 10. I have the Rode videomic pro for my DSLR camera. Would this Rode NTG microphone provide better sound recording when shooting videos?

A: The specifications on the two mics are very similar, and the tonal characteristics will be similar, too. The big difference is that the Video Mic Pro can handle a higher SPL, and is a bit more sensitive.
