This lens features a relatively fast T2.6 maximum aperture and can be stopped down to T22.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lense work with Canon RP ?

A: The IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF has a Canon EF mount, while the Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Camera has a Canon RF mount. The lens can be used on the camera with the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, BH #CAMAEFRF.

Q: 2. can you use this lens for video?

A: I would think that the IRIX 15mm would be ideally suited to video, especially in industrial situations where one is often restricted in getting a wide field cover shot. This lens could turn a broom closet into a large room.

Q: 3. Will this lens work on a Nikon D3300?

A: Yes, the IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Firefly Lens for Nikon F is compatible with the Nikon D3300.

Q: 4. Do this lens have Sony e mount?

A: Unfortunately for the time being there isn't one.

Q: 5. Does Pentax K version has aperture confirmation chip?

A: I'm pretty sure this lens is fully manual. However being so wide.. it's not hard to use at all. It has a stop to keep it in focus. It's an amazing lens and one of my favorite from my 10 plus collection.

Q: 6. can this be adapted to a sony mirrorless with a dumb adapter? will this work with an adapter that has aperture control ring?

A: I adapted it to my Sony A7RII with no issues. Loving the performance. I used smart adapter though as the aperture is controlled automatically through electronic control. You can buy one of the cheap ones that cost around $50. I used the Canon EF version.

Q: 7. For the Pentax mount version, will it work with a film Pentax camera like the ZX-5n which has Av and Tv settings or the fully manual K1000 SE? I understand that there is no aperture ring so I would not be able to select the aperture on a fully manual camera like the K1000 and the aperture would default to 22 which would be fine for my intended purpose (landscape photography with a large DoF mounted on a tripod). Was wanting this to use with a K-1 Mk II special for night sky astrophotography landscapes and also be able to use it with my old ZX-5n and a K1000 SE for daytime landscapes. I already have a 95mm night sky light pollution filter - which is why I would prefer this lens over the Roki 14mm 2.8 which won’t accept filters but does have an aperture ring and would likely work fine on my film camera.

A: It will mount to the older Pentax film cameras.

Q: 8. ¿Funcionará esta lente con la Canon EOS 800D?

A: Este lente si es compatible con su camara EOS 800D (T7i)

Q: 9. What is the difference between the Firefly model and the Blackstone Model? Which would be better with a Canon M-50 with the M to EF/EFS adapter? Can it also be used for landscape photography? Thank you for your time

A: The IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF has a Weather-Sealed ABS Plastic Housing; the Blackstone version has a Weather-Sealed Magnesium Alloy Housing. Either lens will work equally well for landscape photography.

Q: 10. Does this lens work on Nikon Z6?

A: I contacted IRIX with your inquiry. They replied that the compatibility of IRIX lenses with Nikon Z cameras (with FZ adapter) has been announced on their Instagram account on October 2018. They state that there are no issues with using IRIX lenses with the Nikon Z cameras using the FTZ lens mount adapter, so you should have no issues using the IRIX 15mm f/2.4 Firefly Lens for Nikon F on the Nikon Z-series Mirrorless Digital Cameras with the FTZ Lens Mount Adapter. The lens' focal length and aperture information will also be transmitted to the camera's EXIF data, along with exposure settings. That being said, do note that this is a manual focus lens, so you will still have to focus the lens manually when using the Nikon FTZ Lens Adapter.

[9 x 5.3 x 5.2"] Procured a Nikkor 15/3.5 AIS of recent vintage and did a side by side and the Irix walks all over it. Nikon has a particular look and this copy is not a dog. It doesn't compare to the Irix. The Irix handles ghosting and flare very well with exception when pointing towards the sun. The Nikkor flare and ghosting is much worse. The Irix has less distortion, is sharp as a tack, has excellent contrast, and captures a precise rendering. It's a Zeiss killer but you didn't hear that here! Wish the lens hood was metal (I fear it will get crushed some how). The Irix was on sale for $600 w/tax at BHPhoto. It just doesn't get any better folks that this folks. I have legendary Zeiss offerings and this lens is in that league in terms of image quality. Very impressive performance! Well done Irix!!!

[Imperial] I recently purchased the IRIX 45mm, 150mm, and this 15mm the color from all the lenses seem to match very well. This lens has very little distortion for being such a wide lens.

[T22] This lens is perfect for nightscape photography with the Milky Way. Could be a bit sharper around the edge but hey, for that price it's perfect. Also love the hyperfocal range feature to ensure foreground and stars are sharp, as well as the removable lens hood, and the ability to use regular 95mm screw on filters, and a 100mm square filter holder capable of containing a CPL in the Irix IFH-100 Pro filter holder. I use this with the wide angle version of the Focus on Stars Bahtinov mask filter from Hungary, and my stars are nice and crisp, then I switch out the focusing filter for a night pollution filter. Irix made nightscape astrophotography a whole lot more enjoyable for me with this lens.

[T2.6] I was returning to photograph a derelict house and wanted a lenswider then the Zeiss 21mm I used for interior shots on the first trip. I own the NIkon 14-24 f/2.8 but was wondering if there was a better option. I read a good, short review of this lens by Thom Hogan on bythom.com. The lens did not disappoint in any way. The build quality and attention to detail are top notch. Optical quality is better than expected. I was able to square up the interior shots and the resulting files required no correction in post processing. Color and contrast are up there with the best. I look forward to using the lens on Milky Way and star shots in August and landscapes in June.
I contemplated the Blackstone versus FIrefly and decided on the Blackstone for the nominal price difference. I would not hesitate to recomend the Firefly for a tighter budget.
