This pair of Telefunken TF29 cardioid tube condenser microphones offers a balanced, natural tone with warm midrange frequencies, a rich low-end, and additional highs for presence and clarity. This workhorse mic is well suited for recording vocals, electric and acoustic guitar, brass, and other instruments and is also very effective as a room or overhead mic for drums.

Part of Telefunken's Alchemy Series of large-diaphragm tube condenser mics, the TF29 mic's all-brass k67-style capsule, new old-stock American-made 5654W vacuum tube, and Swedish-made Lundahl output transformer give the mic it's distinctive, bold, and full "copperhead" sound. That signature sound features an approximate +4 dB boost in the 20 to 100 Hz range for added bottom while the high end is boosted by about 2 dB at around 13 kHz and 4.5 dB at approximately 18 kHz. The additional highs help to balance out the extended low end and keep the mic from sounding muddy.

The TF29 features a cardioid polar pattern that focuses audio capture in front of the mic, great for a wide variety of applications. An external power supply, connecting cables, stand mounts, and shockmounts are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have one 8020, if I want to get a pair, is it better to buy a pair or buy another one, i guess my question is, does the single version makes any difference with the pair version?

A: In terms of matching capsules, it is more ideal to purchase the Sennheiser MKH 8020 Compact Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone as a set, however purchasing two individual microphones will still provide great results when used as a pair.

Q: 2. Is it possible to recieve 4 of these tubes all matched?

A: I am sorry. We cannot promise any tube matching.

Q: 3. is this a low noise tube ?

A: I believe it is. I changed out the tube in my preamp before even using it. It is the Telefunken equivalent to a 12AX7 which is a industry standard preamp tube. Telefunken has been in the high end audio tube business for many many years. I just believe this is the best preamp tube available. The tube i had pulled out was supposedly a selected Chinese 12AX7. Although I do not have the measuring equipment to measure any differences, I am completely satisfied with the ECC83.

Q: 4. Can the "micro 4/3" 16 mm extension tube be fitted with the Olympus MC-20 (even if not recommended)? Stated differently: Will the protrusion of the MC-20 fit inside the extension tube?

A: Using a teleconverter with an extension tube is not recommended.

Q: 5. Is this a low noise mic pre amp tube ?

A: Yes. The Telefunken ECC83-TK black diamond series preamp tube offers cleaner headroom than the typical 12AX7.

Q: 6. Considering this stereo set and the single version. What I need it for is capturing audio from multiple speakers when I don't have enough inputs into my camera. Is the stereo version really necessary?

A: If you are okay recording in mono than just get one mic. If you want to record in stereo you will need the stereo set.

Q: 7. Best wind shields for this? Both fluffy and wind shield?

A: The Sennheiser MZW-8000 Windscreen (BH #SEMZW8000) is the best choice of foam windscreen for the Sennheiser MKH 8040 Compact Cardioid Condenser Microphone. For higher wind scenarios, the Rycote Baseball Windscreen and Baseball Windjammer Combo Kit (0.7" Diameter Hole) (BH #RY039710) is a great solution.

Q: 8. is this new or seacondhand?

A: This is a brand new ittem: All products purchased from B&H are brand new in the original factory box including packaging, all factory included accessories and factory warranty, unless otherwise stated to be USED, Refurbished, Open Box, or Demo.

Q: 9. Is this Telefunken smooth plate 12AX7 tube ? What country and year of production.? Thanks

A: The Telefunken ECC83-TK/12AX7 Black Diamond Series Vacuum Tube is manufactured in Slovak Republic.

Q: 10. Does it work on X-T3?

A: Hi, yes, this set is compatible with the X-T3.

[Cardioid] Very clear sounding Mic! It was so clear that we were able to fine tune the live vocal reverb at band practice. It also has a nice design and a good weight to it. It feels great in the hand. It has a wide spectrum so you do not necessarily have to position it right in front of your mouth for good results. Overall I am very impressed. If you are looking for a live vocal mic upgrade look no further.

[23' / 7 m] As a professional audio engineer, this is the most natural sounding dynamic handheld mic I have heard. A little bit of handling noise, and susceptible to plosives, but nothing a mic stand and windscreen can't fix.

[Side Address] I used these tubes as replacements in my TL Audio PA-2 Preamp/DI and the difference in sound was huge. More defined and musical. So far used for drum overheads with KM184s and Bass DI and I was very happy with the results. I was surprised there was such a noticeable difference.

[Tube] The ELA M80 has as beautiful low silky warmth to it. Hacking a vocal channel or graphic eq to ring out monitors is not necessary for the M80. Just a high pass of about 160-180hz. very small dip @ with a tight Q @ 250hz, and a wide 1 dip @ 3.15K is mostly what you need to start off with the M80. Sometime you may have to bring 6 or 8k down 2 0r 3dB due to the brightness of the mic. but still overall a great mic. Hands down beats any dynamic mic in sound, clarity, warmth & durability. Would even stack it against a few condenser mics.

[Cardioid] telefunken ecc 83 brought out the best sound from this marshall dsl5c. low noise and cleanest sound i ever had from this amp. huge difference in the tone quality after I swaped in the tele funkens. though its a bit pricey compared to other brands, I beleiv its well worth the money if you are into precision quality tone from your amp
