Helping to balance exposure when working in high-contrast situations, the LEE85 Soft-Edge Graduated ND Filter 85x115m 1-Stopfrom LEE85 Soft-Edge Graduated ND Filter 85x115m 1-Stopis specifically designed to selectively control brightness in difficult lighting conditions. The filter's design places the 0.3, 1-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The soft-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well suited for photographing scenes with an indistinct or undefined horizon line, as well as when working with wide-angle lenses. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity and is compatible with the LEE85 filter holder.

Graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.

Soft-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with an indistinct, non-apparent horizon or line between light and shadow, such as a woodland or interior. It is also well suited for use with wide-angle lenses.

Neutral density 0.3 provides a 1-stop reduction in light in selective areas.

Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.

Compatible for use with the LEE85 filter holder.

Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How big is the actual filter? Will this drop in to the 52 mm filter slots at the back of Canon telephoto lenses?

A: I don't have the actual dimensions but the filter is permanently mounted in the holder and it will only fit into the canon drop in filter mount adapter. See BH #CAMAEFRFDIND.

Q: 2. What is a recommended storage case for the filter when not in the adapter?

A: A Domke 11x11" Color Coded Protective Wrap (Gray), B H # DOPW11G would be a suitable option to store this filter. https://bhpho.to/3t8GR0O

Q: 3. I have Nikon 16-35mm len. I heard someone indicated that this len may cause flare. Can I attach my 77mm len hood to my wide-angle len first and then attach this ND len on the wide-angle len???

A: Not really. The Eclipse should be attached to the Wide Angle lens and then attach the Fader Hood. The hood should reduce the chance of flare.

Q: 4. Can you tell by feel, like a notch or something when you rotate for densities with is filter...If not which one has that you would recommend w/o breaking the bank to much?... Thanks in advance..

A: There are no notches or clicks as you rotate the filter. Rotation is smooth. I haven't used the filter in a large number of instances yet, but other reviewers have spoken highly of the lack of color shift. It is a hunk of glass, well built and most likely worth the investment. I chose it as a middle cost point with satisfied users.

Q: 5. Why is it MORE expensive to buy just the filter without the adapter included?

A: While Canon sets the MSRP on their items, as of the time/date of this reply, the cost of the Canon Drop-In Variable ND Filter A (1.5-9 Stop), BH #CADIVNDFA, and the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter, BH #CAMAEFRFDIND, on our website are currently the same price. However, I would simply recommend that if you are certain that you want the Variable ND Filter, as it is the most expensive of the filter options that are compatible for use with the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, I would simply recommend to purchase the adapter kit that comes with the Variable ND filter, the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter, BH #CAMAEFRFDIND.

Q: 6. It says "Series 8", so is it compatible with Hasselblad SWC's Biogon C 38mm lens?

A: The Hasselblad SWC's Biogon C 38mm lens uses a series 60 mount, not the Series 8 mount. The B+W Series 8 MRC 102M ND 0.6 Filter will not fit the Hasselblad 38mm SWC lens.

Q: 7. Are Minimal = 2 stops and Max = 8 stops? How do I read the marks on the ring to know 2/4/8 stops?

A: When I am using the Eclipse I never worry about what stop I am using. What difference does it make? All I am interested in doing is getting it dark enough to be able to slow down my shutter speed so that I can get the effect I want. I never have to change filters if the 2 stop or 6 stop isn't enough, I just rotate the filter. Don't think about what number it is just use the the darkness you need. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. I've got 3 Canon lenses each with 67mm on the filter end. Does it make any sense to buy 77mm Eclipse filter and a step-up ring 67-77 (just to cover the range of lenses that I maybe will plan to buy someday) ? I'm very afraid I can get vignetting with this setup because I often shoot with wide-angle (10-18mm focal length, APS-C). Or maybe the right way is to take 67mm model of Eclipse?

A: I purchased one Eclipse Variable ND filter and step up rings to use with my Nikkor lensesand have found it to be a good choice. Vignetting is not a problem for me and I have been pleased with the results. Especially in motion film work.

Q: 9. I have a RF 24-70mm lens, do I just place this acessory behind the lens? Would it fit?

A: No, this filter system is for use in the Canon EF to RF lens adapter that takes drop in filters.

Q: 10. Hi, I would like to know if it is compatible with the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF Lens for Sony E-Mount . It says the filter thread is 72, so is my other lens (Soney Zeiss 35mm FE 1.4 Distagon) . But I have heard somewhere that this ND filter fitted these lenses... Can you help please?

A: The 85 mm lens has 72 filter size

[0.225 lb] I take a lot of landscape pictures. Lately I have been taking ocean view pictures in the evening and had big contrast issues - bright sky and dark foreground. I had the camera checked out and everything was to spec. HDR mode and Software couldn't correct the problem so I tried the Tiffen Graduated ND filter which solved the problem perfectly. Pictures are much better balanced.

[0.225 lb] This is a big, heavy, tough filter. I think this will be the last ND filter I will ever buy. Kinda surprised how thick 4mm is. Wouldn't shock me if it was bullet proof. Glad I went with the glass filter, I had plastic filters ,they are cheap, but scratches too easily.

[0.225 lb] Thank You for your excellent service. The ND filter arrived and was to be a gift, so use hasn't occurred yet. I just like B&H- rather than some of the other vendors. Sincerely, C.
