Helping to balance exposure when working in high-contrast situations, the LEE85 Medium-Edge Graduated ND Filter 3-Stopfrom LEE85 Medium-Edge Graduated ND Filter 3-Stopis specifically designed to selectively control brightness in difficult lighting conditions. The filter's design places the 0.9, 3-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The medium-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well suited for photographing scenes with an apparent but not rigid horizon line, such as when mountains or trees protrude into the sky. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity and is compatible with the LEE85 filter holder.

Graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.

Medium-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with an apparent, but indistinct horizon or line between light and shadow, such as when rooftops, mountains, or trees protrude into the sky.

Neutral density 0.9 provides a 3-stop reduction in light in selective areas.

Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.

Compatible for use with the LEE85 filter holder.

Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this have hard stops?

A: Hello Michael, The Variable ND Filter does not have hard stops. The nature of this type of filter will not have incremental hard stops, and the MIN and MAX marks on the rings are used as a guide.

Q: 2. Hi, I would like to know if it is compatible with the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF Lens for Sony E-Mount . It says the filter thread is 72, so is my other lens (Soney Zeiss 35mm FE 1.4 Distagon) . But I have heard somewhere that this ND filter fitted these lenses... Can you help please?

A: The 85 mm lens has 72 filter size

Q: 3. Will this work with the Canon EF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM lens?

A: Unfortunately the Canon Drop-In Variable ND Filter A (1.5-9 Stop) is not compatible with the 800mm lens. Currently there are no variable ND filter options for the 800mm RF f5.6 lens. You can use a solid ND 52mm using the holder that comes with the 800mm lens.

Q: 4. Will this work with a step up ring?

A: Yes, the Neewer Magnetic Variable ND Filter will work with a step up ring.

Q: 5. will I be able to use the hood on my 35mm 1.2 voightlander with this filter?

A: I have this filter in 49mm on a Pentax FA 43 and I am able to screw on a B+W metal hood with no problem.

Q: 6. Are Minimal = 2 stops and Max = 8 stops? How do I read the marks on the ring to know 2/4/8 stops?

A: When I am using the Eclipse I never worry about what stop I am using. What difference does it make? All I am interested in doing is getting it dark enough to be able to slow down my shutter speed so that I can get the effect I want. I never have to change filters if the 2 stop or 6 stop isn't enough, I just rotate the filter. Don't think about what number it is just use the the darkness you need. Hope this helps.

Q: 7. hi half the comments say it does X half don't - so which is it ? Yes or No ??

A: Typically most variable nd filters have an x effect and or a color bias when used at the full nd setting. As a rule of thumb, you should stop short of the max and maybe go to about 2 stops lower than the max of the filter. For example if a variable nd filter goes to 10 stops, it would be advisable to shot at 8 stops or below.

Q: 8. Can this be safely used for photographing a Solar Eclipse?

A: I would recommend 17 stops or more for solar eclipse, so I wouldn't recommend the K&F Concept Nano-X Series ND32000 ND Filter (100 x 100mm, 15-Stop) for solar eclipse.

Q: 9. Is this system compatible with a canon EF to R drop in filter lens adapter?

A: No, it is not. The Haida Drop-In Neutral Density Filter Kit for Haida M10 Filter Holder is specifically designed for use with the with separately available Haida M10 filter holder. It is not designed or compatible for use with the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R.

Q: 10. I've got 3 Canon lenses each with 67mm on the filter end. Does it make any sense to buy 77mm Eclipse filter and a step-up ring 67-77 (just to cover the range of lenses that I maybe will plan to buy someday) ? I'm very afraid I can get vignetting with this setup because I often shoot with wide-angle (10-18mm focal length, APS-C). Or maybe the right way is to take 67mm model of Eclipse?

A: I purchased one Eclipse Variable ND filter and step up rings to use with my Nikkor lensesand have found it to be a good choice. Vignetting is not a problem for me and I have been pleased with the results. Especially in motion film work.

[0.23 lb] Thank You for your excellent service. The ND filter arrived and was to be a gift, so use hasn't occurred yet. I just like B&H- rather than some of the other vendors. Sincerely, C.

[6 x 5.6 x 1.3"] I use this filter for scenery photography, where part of the area to be photographed is over exposed. I can't image going in the field with this filter.
