This 85 x 115mm LEE Reverse-Graduated ND Filter 85x115mm 3-Stopfrom LEE Reverse-Graduated ND Filter 85x115mm 3-Stopis compatible with a LEE Filters LEE85 System filter holder. It can be applied to darken bright skies, specifically during a sunrise or sunset, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image.

This filter achieves its effect with a 0.9 band of density above its center region that provides up to a 3-stop reduction in light from entering a lens. This band extends in both vertical directions which tapers to approximately a 0.3 density and a 1-stop reduction in light at the edge above it. Directly below the 0.9 band of density, it tapers to clear, with a hard-edged line of transition before the clear area.

The placement of a 0.9 band of density with a clear area directly below allows the LEE Filters 85 x 115mm Reverse-Graduated Filter to match the positioning of the sun when it is at, or immediately above, the horizon. In such instances, the sun can appear closer to the center of an image as opposed to the upper edge, and an increase in brightness is created which is more prominent on both sides of the sun than above it. This pattern of brightness corresponds to the density pattern on the LEE Filters 85 x 115mm Reverse-Graduated Filter. The hard-edged line of transition in this reverse-graduated neutral density filter is useful for hard transitions between the sky and land, while the 3-stop to approximately 1-stop gradation is applicable to multiple regions of brightness within the sky.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the typical exposure time for this when shooting waterfalls in the day.. are we looking at 10 seconds or 10 minutes?

A: Cathy, it would be somewhere around 1 second to 4 seconds. If the normal shutter speed is 1/1000 with big stopper it would be 1 second. If the normal shutter speed is 1/250 with big stopper it will be 4 seconds. Lee filters has a nice app that shows the conversion if you are interested.

Q: 2. will this fit a Nikon nikkor 35km 1.8 and if so what accessories do I need to purchase with this filter?

A: yes with the Lee 100mm filter holder kit, go to 'Lee 100mm filter' on the internet and the site will show you everything you will need. I think B&H carries them.Regards...

Q: 3. Would these filters fit the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens?

A: The specs for this lens, as listed at B&H, show a 77mm front thread. Get a Lee, or similar, 4x4 or 100x100mm filter holder and a 77mm wide angle adapter and it should physically fit. With this wide of a lens, I don't know how much vignetting you will get.

Q: 4. Does this glass scratch easily? or at least compared to the hitech stopper?

A: I have had this filter for over a year and no scratches to this point.

Q: 5. Would this work with the nikkor 24-70 2.8?

A: Yes sir I think work with 24-70 and adapter ring 77mm for sure

Q: 6. Will this filter fit into the 4 x4, 4 x6 Lee filter hollder?

A: This is designed for the Lee Filter 150 System and the Mark II version which has a Lightguard in the II system that did not exist in the I version. I have the Mark II Holder sand have no problems with this filter used in it. Mixing and matching mfrs is not always a good idea.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with the SW150 original (Mark 1) system?

A: Yes, this is compatible

Q: 8. Will a Lee 150mm ND filter fit properly in an NiSi filter holder?

A: yes, it will fit nicely.

Q: 9. Does anyone have a comparison on the Super Stopper compared to Lee's ProGlass 15 stop filter? Almost twice the price, is it worth it?

A: The LEE Filters 100 x 100mm ProGlass IRND 4.5 Filter (15-Stop) B&H # LEPGIRN15100 is more expensive because it combines two filters in one. Not only the ND but it also has an IR filter as well. Because digital sensor are susceptible to the infrared that get through the ND, this helps to keep your blacks from going to a very-hard-to-correct magenta color shift.

Q: 10. Does this filter have a gasket on it's backside to help with light leakage?

A: Yes it does

[0.25 lb] Works as advertised. No appreciable color cast. Works perfectly with the Lee system. I use the 3-stop filter all the time (soft and medium edge).

[0.25 lb] I was on the fence about buying and using a three stop ND square filter with either a hard or soft transition. This one was the perfect compromise, IMO...

[6 x 5.5 x 1"] While our cameras today have incredible dynamic range, it is still far better to get the capture right in the camera. After struggling with nasty color casts I saw from ND filters from another brand, I made the choice to switch to Lee. I've yet to see even a hint of a color cast; these are indeed NEUTRAL density filters and I believe best in class. I believe the medium grad makes an excellent first choice grad to reach for. It can be hard to hide the transition in a hard-edge grad and a soft-edge grad frequently has too little attenuation right where you need it the most. Enter the medium-grad as a go to choice.

[0.25 lb] It's been awhile since a lee purchase. There was a time when there was a hard grad and soft grad only! This medium selection is perfect for my uses so far. Glad to have it.
