Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm getting a SYNC ERROR when attempting to sync this (UTX-M40) to the URX-P41D receiver. Can't find any info online. Any advice?

A: You can find instructions on how to sync the Sony UTX-M40 Wireless Handheld Cardioid Microphone Transmitter and the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver in the user manual. The information for "Operation" that begins on page 23 should be helpful. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/833188.pdf

Q: 2. What size mic head does this have. When I tap accessories for this mic the phone windscreens come in five different sizes so don't know which one to get

A: The microphone head on the Sony UTX-M40 Wireless Handheld Cardioid Microphone Transmitter has a diameter of 1.8" (45.7mm) and height of 3.1" (78.7mm). A windscreen for 1-5/8" (which is 1.625" as a decimal or 41.3mm) diameter should work best. The foam stretches and it will fit securely around the widest part of the microphone.

Q: 3. Would this be compatible with URX-P2 or URX-P03 receivers with overlapping frequency ranges?

A: Yes, the UTX-P40 is backward-compatible with Sony WL-800 and UWP Series systems so it will work as long as both components are operating on the same frequency band.

Q: 4. If rechargeable batteries are in this unit, can it be recharged via USB?

A: No. This will not work as a charger.

Q: 5. will this fit a9 with soon-to-be-released 400 2.8 GM lens?

A: I'm sorry but the lens is too long for the Porta Brace cover. As an alternative you can use a universal cover that will accommodate the lens. Please click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2METXAO

Q: 6. What is the expected battery life when using Phantom Power?

A: When using the Sony UTX-P40 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter with two standard AA size alkaline batteries and output power is set for 30 or 40mW and phantom power is on, the estimated battery life is approximately 6 hours. With phantom power turned off, the estimated battery life is approximately 8 hours when set for 30mW of output power and approximately 7 hours when output power is set for 40mW.

Q: 7. Is this an updated model to the Sony UTX-M03?

A: The UTX-M40 transmitter is a new model from Sony's UWP-D series while the UTX-M03 transmitter is from the older UWP series.

Q: 8. Can this mic be used with the UWP-D11 receivers? And more specifically, can they sync channels with the IR feature found on the side of the UWP D11 receiver pack?

A: Yes, this mic can be used with a receiver from the UWP-D11 system. There is an IR sensor on the bottom of the mic to allow for IR syncing. Please note, the transmitter frequency range must match that of the receiver.

Q: 9. Can you run this on USB without batteries installed?

A: Yes, the Sony UTX-P40 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter can be powered through its USB port, instead of using batteries.

Q: 10. Is UTX PO3 compatible with urx po3d?

A: Yes, the Sony UTX-P40 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter is compatible for use with the Sony URX-P03D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver, however, both devices must operate within the same frequency band.

[5 x 2.5 x 2.5"] I purchased 2 UTX-M40 TRANSMITTERS, 1 URX-P03D receiver and an extra ECM-V1BMP for my Sony RX10M3/RX100M7 cameras. The setup works great for 4K videos using the 3.5mm output. The microphones focus on the subjects with very little background. I am very happy with this setup as the RX100M7 is very portable when using a belt pouch for the receiver.

[5 x 2.5 x 2.5"] Built like a tank! Weighty metal construction, distinct buttons, easy to read OLED screen, syncs up super quick with Sony URX-P03D receiver and connects via MiShoe to our Sony PXW-z150 cameras: sans wires is definitely a favorite part of this system.
Lots of helpful settings in the mic. Menu is relatively easy to navigate. Mute button simple toggle on/off.
We pair this transmitter up with Sennheiser MD46 for postgame interviews, etc. Crystal clear sound, good noise rejection, nice that levels can be adjusted inside the transmitter, including phantom power if necessary. Also works great for plugging into house mix AUX to send audio into camera via Sony URX-P03D receiver.

[5 x 2.5 x 2.5"] My occupation is to record live musical events, and of late, mostly live-streamed. I've used several brands and models of wireless microphones over the years, but purchased the Sony URX Dual Channel receiver kit for the ease at which it can be used with a variety of Sony cameras, including the A7 models and FS5 cinematic camera. A digital connection, without wires, is something to rejoice. I bought the UTX-M40 microphone almost as an afterthought, to accommodate vocal and narrative elements for salon concerts. It was easy to set up and works perfectly. I have used plug-on transmitters before, but the dedicated wireless mic is lighter and more compact, which makes it more comfortable for the talent to use.

[5 x 2.5 x 2.5"] Worth the money. Reliable for studio use in educational video production.

I keep it on a sennheiser mkh 416. Clean. I scan for a new frequency every session. I tend to keep it plugged in via USB For continuous power, running it into a Sony mi interface, directly into a Sony a7s3.

Great on handheld and other mics.

Its decent for Shute sm7b, which is power hungry, but gets the job done nicely.

416 is my favorite mic for this.

Studio is by major Burbank movie studios, city power grid, and airport but no problems in 6 months of heavy, daily use.

[5 x 2.5 x 2.5"] I had two shoots in the rain recently- one with this poncho (not good) and one with it (good). It kept me and my mixer dry, it was easy to put on and take off, and it felt kind of like a big jacket, much better than I expected. Folds up pretty small so easy to bring with me for future work.
