On small connection planes even bags that come under FAA regulation carry on dimensions may not fit. Best solution is to note the actual model of plane that you book for each flight and cross reference that particular aircraft's overhead bin dimensions. It's better to use a Pelican even if it gets pulled from you prior to boarding--if you purchase a soft case and it gets pulled, you lack the hard case protection. A: I've never had a problem with cameras bouncing. If your worried about it you can shove foam, bubble wrap, or other gear in the void to prevent shifting. You could also just move the velcro spacers tighter together so that your camera fits snug enough to prevent any shifting.
