Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. With daylight film in mixed incandescent lighting, how does this filter differ from the cooling color conversion filter grades?

A: This Tiffen 55mm FL-D Fluorescent Glass Filter for Daylight Film will remove the green cast of fluorescent lights. With multiple type of lighting filtration can be tricky, I would filter for the dominant light source and err towards what I believe would look most natural. i.e., warmer skin tones would look more natural than green or blue skin.

Q: 2. hi thereis this comptatible with canon 5d mark III?tx

A: The Tiffen 82mm FL-D Flourescent Glass Filter for Daylight Film is designed to prevent color casting on color film, and is unnecessary for digital cameras such as the Canon 5D Mark III. To avoid color cast from flourescent lights with your camera, simply change the white balance to flourescent lighting.

Q: 3. Is the front of this filter threaded so I can stack another filter to it?

A: Yes

Q: 4. Does this Tiffen filter come in the hard plastic case made specifically for that filter?

A: Yes it does come with its protective case.

Q: 5. can you stack these filters ?

A: Yes, these filters can be stacked.

Q: 6. what is the stop value, if any?

A: The Tiffen 77mm Deep Yellow #15 Glass Filter for Black & White Film has a 2.5x (1.3-Stop) filter factor.

Q: 7. How many stops should I add when using this filter?

A: This Tiffen 43mm Deep Yellow #15 Filter would require the addition of 1.3 stops.

Q: 8. Using flash outdoors (flash dialled 1 stop brighter than sun), id like to reduce the blue saturation of the ambient daylight (in a colour image, not B&W) will this filter reduce/mute/gray the blue saturation? If anyone has tried this, can you please direct me to an example image? Thanks everyone!

A: Colored filters are usually meant to be used to change the contrast in black and white photography. If you were to use a yellow filter while shooting color, the whole picture will have a yellow cast. The best way to reduce the blue saturation would be to either overexpose the sky, or ideally in post production you can under-saturate the blues.

Q: 9. So when I have this filter attached to my lens, is adding +1 exposure compensation sufficient for proper exposures?

A: If you have through-the-lens (TTL) metering then you don' have to compensate. For example, the TTL on my Nikon camera takes the filter into account when metering. If your camera is a rangefinder, then you'll probably have to compensate by adding +1 exposure, as the meter might not account for the filter. One way to test is to try to meter in a consistent light situation without AND with the filter. If the meter is asking you to open up or slow down the shutter speed (ie. add exposure) when you have the filter on, then your camera is already accounting for the filter. If there is no difference in metering between with or without the filter, then your camera is not account for the filter when metering and you'll have to compensate. Hope this helps.

Q: 10. Does this filter come in a hard plastic case or just a cardboard box?

A: This Tiffen 77mm Water White Glass Full Spectrum IRND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) would come in a hard plastic case covered by a cardboard box.

[77 mm] While this product was meant for film to convert flourescent to daylight white balance, when used at sunrise or sunset it adds a beautiful pink hue to the sky in digital work. The Tiffen filter yields the best color

[0.24 lb] I purchased this filter to use with my stash of color infrared film. Since it cuts more blue light than a number 8 yellow filter or a number 12 yellow filter, foliage appears more reddish. However, it still can have a somewhat blueish tint, compared a number 16 orange filter. I have not tried it with black-and-white film, yet.
