The Shure SLXD14/98H offers brass, woodwind, and percussion players a wireless instrument microphone system that's dependable, easy to set up, and features crystal-clear digital sound quality and very-low latency. Built around a rugged, single-channel, half-rack receiver with removable antennas, the system is ideally suited for portable rigs or long-term installations in small- to medium-sized venues, event spaces, houses of worship, and similar performance environments.

The SLX-D operates in the UHF band to transmit high-quality, 24-bit digital audio with over 120 dB of dynamic range for crisp, detailed sound. It utilizes Digital Predictive Switching Diversity to protect the transmission from interference and deliver a solid, reliable RF signal without dropouts.

This configuration comes with a WB98H/C cardioid gooseneck mic with an integrated clip ready to attach to your instrument. The bodypack transmitter features a selectable 1/10mW RF power output and a transmission range up to 330'. It provides up to 8 hours of operation on two AA batteries or an SB903 rechargeable battery (available separately).

The all-metal, rackmount SLXD4 receiver features an intuitive LCD interface with meters for RF, battery status, and audio output. It also offers 60 dB of gain control, and both mic/line XLR and 1/4" instrument outputs. Additional features include automatic frequency scanning and IR sync to easily link the transmitter and receiver to the same frequency.

With up to 32 mic channels available at the same time, the SLX-D is ready to expand as your needs grow. What’s more, setting up multiple systems is made fast and easy via the Ethernet port, which links them together for quick, coordinated frequency scans from a single receiver.

  • The WB98H/C miniature condenser microphone clamps onto the bell of wind instruments or onto the rim of percussion instruments. It features a cardioid polar pattern that helps reject unwanted noise in loud environments. The integrated gooseneck and ratcheting swivel joint allow the microphone to be easily positioned and secured, while an isolation shockmount reduces the transmission of instrument key noise and other mechanical sounds.
  • The instrument mic plugs into the locking TA4M connector on the compact SLXD1 bodypack transmitter.
  • The rugged, plastic transmitter has a belt clip that attaches to the talent’s clothing and an LCD that shows essential information.

  • The SLX-D delivers 24-bit digital audio with a fast transient response and over 120 dB of dynamic range—resulting in clear, accurate sound with detail and nuance.
  • The system operates in the G58: 470 to 514 MHz UHF band with a 44 MHz tuning range and 1760 selectable frequencies, far away from potential Wi-Fi interference in the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Digital Predictive Switching Diversity uses a microprocessor to switch between the two antennas before dropouts occur.
  • The low 3.2 ms latency makes the system ideal for applications that require live sound reinforcement.
  • The SLX-D's spectrum-efficient digital transmission technology allows for up to 32 mics or instruments to be used at once.
  • Up to 10 compatible systems per 6 MHz TV band and 12 systems per 8 MHz band are supported.
  • Ethernet networking saves you time with coordinated group scanning between multiple receivers from a single location; TCPI command streams from third-party companies such as AMX and Crestron are also supported.

  • Housed in a tough, half-rack metal chassis with detachable antennas, the SLXD4 receiver is a great fit for installations or as part of a portable rackmount rig—ready to travel to a show or event.
  • The SLX-D is engineered to provide outstanding sound for small- to medium-sized spaces and facilities—without costly, complicated features required primarily for large venues.
  • Intuitive front-panel controls and a high-contrast LCD screen with audio and RF meters makes set up a snap.
  • The auto-scan function automatically seeks out the cleanest available frequency for you. The receiver and transmitter then easily link to the same frequency via infrared.
  • The receiver offers up to 60 dB of adjustable gain and the display shows you where the ideal level should be.

  • Adding the SB903 lithium-ion rechargeable battery, along with an SBC10-903 single charger or an SBC203 dual-docking charger, offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to throwing away AA batteries (batteries and charger available separately).
  • Using the SB903 battery and SBC203 charger simplifies the task of keeping multiple transmitters charged and ready—you can even recharge the battery while still in the transmitter.
  • When powered by an SB903, the transmitter displays the remaining battery life in hours and minutes.

  • Adding UA874 active antennas or PA805SWB passive antennas increases the range of your system and offers increased protection against interference.
  • The UA844+SWB antenna distribution system (available separately) lets you stretch the power of your antenna pairs, giving you more on-air channels in less setup time.

Shure offers numerous options to adapt your SLX-D system as your needs evolve.

  • The WA305 guitar cable lets you connect the bodypack transmitter to a guitar or bass.
  • The SM35 is a comfortable, durable headset microphone for active performance.
  • The WL183 omnidirectional lavalier mic is a clip on mic that offers consistent pickup even when the talent turns away from the mic.
  • The WL184 supercardioid lavalier mic offers a narrower, feedback-resistant pickup pattern for louder events.
  • The SLXD2 handheld transmitter is available with several mic capsules choices for presenters who prefer the flexibility of a handheld microphone.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this system work in a fitness studio? we have coaches who sweat and are active during a group fitness class

A: Yes, the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System with No Mics will be able to function inside a fitness studio. Please be aware that you will need to add microphones to connect to the transmitters and that the antennas for the transmitters and receiver must be within line of sight of each other in order for the system to function properly.

Q: 2. Can I use two body pack transmitters with this system?

A: Yes you can: Users can select up to 1200 frequencies across the 30MHz tuning range. This also allows for operation of up to 20 channels simultaneously within the same frequency band or up to 48 channels in multiple bands.

Q: 3. Why choose one frequency band over the other?

A: If you already have one of this system in Band K, then you would get your 2nd system in Band D to avoid the possibility of interference with your first system. If you do not already have one of these systems then it does not matter which frequency band you choose.

[ABS, Plastic] As a Wedding DJ, I have a console with room for only one 19-inch rack mount mic receiver. I was going to buy two single units, but I didn't want four antennas. I stumbled across the SLX4D4 that's two receivers in one that only uses two antennas... PERFECT! And, it's easy to configure and sounds fantastic!

[Digital UHF ] We decided to go wireless, with a little concern that it may introduce more variables and opportunities for static or dropouts.

After initial success with SLX, I added this, which has beed great success. Love the freedom, strong signal, and full and crisp sound. Sounds better than our quite old wired mics. I was a little concerned if it would pickup stage monitor sound which are right in front of us (wondered if SM58 would be preferable) , but that is no issue whatsoever.

Just added the rechargeable batteries and docking stations and it EVEN BETTER. It provides more precise time estimates of remaining battery power, which are reasonably accurate. A little extra investment but worth the simplicity and ease of keeping everything charged sufficiently.

[155 dB SPL] I've used a number of wireless systems. In this case, we considered adding another Audio Technica 3000 series, but went with AKG instead. I prefer the AKG for a couple of reasons: -The gain before feedback is better. -The display on the mic is easier to see. -For most voices - the AKG sounds a bit better. -Only needs one AA battery and lasts a long time. -Fairly easy infrared frequency setup. -The receiver display background color changes from green to orange when something critical happens, like signal clipping or a low battery. -We have experienced less RF interference with this AKG than some other types. -Digital (like Line 6) can sound better, but on rare occasion, I've had dropouts with digital.

[Steel] The SLX-D product line brings several high-end features into an affordable price range. Only problem is, parts are in short supply and these are very difficult to find. I've been buying the Guitar versions, as the Handheld + Lav Combos are scarcer than hen's teeth. Keeping my eye out for G58 Handhelds to add to these. B&H seems to get more in stock than other resellers and I appreciate that.
