Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will you be stocking the Newswear Women's Foul Weather Waterproof Digital Chestvest anytime soon?

A: Yes, we will be selling the Newswear Women's Foul Weather Waterproof Digital Chestvest, see product code NEWFWDCVBLK.

Q: 2. Will this short poncho work with nikkor 300mm 2.8 vr2 + tc1.7?

A: This short poncho will work with the 300mm f/2.8 VR II, however with the added length of the teleconverter, this lens poncho will be too short.

Q: 3. What are the dimensions of each pocket? Size wise, how does it compare to the Documentary Chestvest? & it is waterproof ( like the Doco version)

A: Dimensions: Two Side Pockets - 5 1/2" inches wide, 6" inches high, 3" inches deep Two Center Pockets- 5 1/2" inches wide, 9.5" inches high, 3" inches deep Exterior Dimensions- 26" inches wide, 10.5" inches high, 3" inches deep It is water resistant. That means that in a rainstorm the gear inside will stay dry during 30 minutes of constant rain. Not longer. For full waterproof, see Mens Foulweather Digital Chestvest.

Q: 4. Having migrated from large Nikon bodies and lenses to a Fuji Xe2 with 18-55, 55-200, 14mm,23mm,35mm,60mm I am wondering which Newswear would better fit my needs. I am looking at the documentary and the medium. Not having any experience with this product perhaps you can steer me in the right direction.I teach photography and find myself involved with all kinds of image making. Hiking, street photography, etc. Thanks,Elliot Stern

A: I think that the Newswear Mens Documentary Chestvest will be a better choice for your equipment, as the Medium size Chestvest is more accommodating for longer lenses rather than small primes such as those in your arsenal of equipment.

Q: 5. I am wondering whether the compartments are lightly padded?

A: Not really. The material is a nice thickness, but is not padded

Q: 6. What is the purpose of the removable strips on the Velcro on each of the pockets?

A: The strips of Velcro are for securing the camera gear in their respective pouches for quick access and secure storage.

Q: 7. What is the purpose of the two plastic sliders on each of the shoulder straps?

A: The straps are adjustable.

Q: 8. Hello. How well would a Panasonic DC-FZ80 fit in this bag? Everything I see seems way too small. Thanks!

A: The Newswear Camera Body Pouch is too small for the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80 Digital Camera.

Q: 9. Will both straps go over the right shoulder? I have a pacemaker on my left side and any straps over the left shoulder with chaff again the pacemaker.

A: This is a great vest and very adaptable---I just tried it on like this and because the shoulder straps adjust you can do it and feels fine. The waist strap you could also cinch up so the hips would take a little more weight. It could be that the pulled over strap would come up to high on the neck, so i would maybe sew up the strap against the regular fitting side just lower off the shoulder and more onto the chest. You could also try crossing the straps across the front instead on the back where they are designed to cross over----all in all, I think you make it work fine. Good luck.

Q: 10. Could this accommodate a Z9 with a Smallrig cage? If not, any recommendations?

A: Yes, this Newswear Camera Body Pouch can accommodate a Nikon Z9 equipped with a SmallRig Cage for the Z9.

[1.84 lb] This is the best way to carry your gear in numerous different situations. I'm currently a photojournalist student after freelancing for a couple years and have 5 different bags to show for it. The Newswear is the BEST solution. If you're not in action, it can be carried like a shoulder bag, without the bulk and hugs your body. Although the straps are not padded, I've never carried so much gear so comfortably. You can also easily drive with it on. Great for transporting all your gear if you have a 1 cam system. Great for wearing/carrying all your gear with a 2 cam system and one body is tucked away. The body pocket is big enough for a D4 and my sync cable with room to spare. You can totally hold two prosumer bodies without their grips as well. I've also carried my gripped d800 WITH a small prime on it (AF-D models) in that pocket. The telephoto pocket is roomy for my 70-200mm 2.8. One of the two side pockets are big enough to carry two SB-910 flashes when they're L-shaped. The other pocket can carry my 16-35mm f/4 AND my 24-70mm without hoods on their sides. I've also shoved my Tascam DR-40 and a Rode Mic in their. Meaning, this works great for visual journalist. I accidentally purchased the small press pouch. I did want a second pouch for my headphones but the press pouch is for a belt system than the chestvest. All told, I love it. Each pocket has a flap pocket for cleaning cloths, batteries, notebooks, pens, phone, business cards, memory cards... you get the idea. I look forward to memorizing where everything is as this system is built for speed.

[Touch-fastener] This was exactly what I needed! I'm a small female photographer, around 5'5' 130 pounds. I was worried it would be too big, but it's all adjustable and fit well. I use to have a big messenger style bag I would carry around with me to change lens etc - but this was great to just have everything I need strapped to me! It held my body, 2 lens, batteries and cards! You could technically fit 3 lens if you carried the body around your neck. Very happy with this purchase, makes shoots much easier!

[Touch-fastener] I bought this to cover the ongoing protests in Hong Kong and am so glad I did. The build quality and water resistance is excellent - not only did the chestvest keep all my gear dry from heavy monsoon rains in September (which knocked out one of my Sony A7III bodies), it also protected everything inside when I was hit and sprayed twice by police water cannons (which fire 127kg of force at a 10 meter distance.) Impressively, all the electronics, gear and documents inside the vest survived no worse for wear (although I can't say the same for that Sony ... at least it started working after some quality time with a hairdryer.)

I really can't think of a better torture test for this product than getting hit with a police water cannon, and it passed with flying colors. The Foul Weather version is definitely worth the extra cash outlay.

Bonus: the colored dye and capsaicin additive laced into the water both washed out! Manufacturer tag recommends handwashing, but I machine washed it on gentle and hung to air dry.

I wish the shoulder straps were easier to configure, a bit more comfortable, and held their position better, but the overall design is excellent and well-executed. It held up very well while I was chasing protestors and police around Hong Kong in full gear. Front pockets make it easy to access phone/powerbank, lenses, flash, snacks, etc - the plastic clips and straps are useful for hanging carabiners & other attachments (helmet, respirator/gas mask, etc), although this will obviously affect your weight distribution.

This product is too bulky and high-profile for casual shooting or everyday use, but when you're covering heavy action and need to be mobile while carrying a lot of gear, this is one of the best options on the market.

[1.84 lb] I was linked to a cool blog that had a list of working photojournalist's gear, among them was this chestvest I've never heard of before. I quickly looked it up on the net and was impressed with the company's goal. I reviewed everything they had to offer for information about the product. A week later, I had mine in hand. I was impressed with the craftsmanship so I quickly grabbed my gear and began to load it. After filling each pocket and there's a lot of them, I put it on and adjusted it for my 6' 5 size 50 frame. I immediately fell in love with it's comfort and ease of access to everything. The next day, I was assigned to cover an assignment in a crowded venue. The next benefit I noticed was being able to move around easily without bumping into people because all my gear was in the front, not hanging off the back! After that, I headed to my last assignment covering a high school football game. It was going to be a wet game and I was anxious to see how waterproof this was. It dumped a half-an-inch of rain during the game. When I finally got back inside my car, I checked inside each pocket for dampness. Each was bone dry. Very impressive to say the least. I am a photojournalist that works in the Pacific Northwest and am exposed to all kinds of weather. This is definitely the best gear hauling vest I've owned. I look forward to many years of use. If you couldn't tell, I highly recommend this vest for anyone that needs to carry a lot of gear in any weather conditions. Please do yourself a favor and get one. The price difference between the original and the waterproof is negligible. The amount of detail that is built into these is amazing. I really can't say enough about how impressed I am to the quality of this product. Enough said, I need to head back out to cover my next assignment!

[1.84 lb] I just love this vest. The pockets are varied in size and perfect for needed accessories and the large pocket is big enough for my backup camera a mirrorless body with a small lens. When I wear the vest, I can easily get what I need unlike my backpack which I have to take off, or my sling bag which I have to reposition in order to reach inside. It's an intelligent design, comfortable, and very well made. And because it is completely adjustable, the vest will work in the winter over a bulky down jacket, and in the summer.

[1.84 lb] I use this vest everyday I go to work, I can't walk out the door without it. Super convenient for carrying most of my lenses, spare batts and more. I also have a 2nd Newswear vest for my prime lens set.

[Touch-fastener] While I havent yet filled all the cavernous pockets with lenses, I did manage to get my 11-24 lens, bulbous cap & all, in one of the pockets with plenty of room to spare.  Clearly the other pockets will hold 3 more hefty lenses if needed, or a variety of peripherals, even my Graslon Prodigy flash diffuser.  I was able to don this vest without making any adjustments right out of the package.  Really distributes the weight evenly on both shoulders and around the waist.  Properly adjusted, does not interfere with my Spiderholster, allowing me to carry a ton of equipment and get to it fast.  As others have noted, carrying most equipment up across the chest allows sitting without removing the vest, which is really great for moving around in tight spaces and sitting down when needed, like courtside at pro tennis matches.   Highly recommended.
