[Universal] Fan of SmallRig, have been pleased with almost everything I have purchased made by them. This is another winner. I also have this baseplate for my A7cII, which I felt needed a little something more for my hand. The A7RV has a better grip, so didn't feel this is a critical a need for this body. But now that I have it, do find that it does indeed improve the grip. One nice detail, is the plate has similar texturing to the A7RV grip, nice touch. So it doesn't feel like an add-on. I was keeping a tripod plate on my A7RV, but found it some situations shooting from a table handheld that it tilted my composition a little. And didn't 'rest' well when not in use. So this base plate improves on both those issue and does indeed improve the handhold-ability of the camera. Those are real pluses, especially since I tend to use my larger GM lenses with the this body. As the title states, not sure what the difference is between version 1 and 2 but this gets two thumbs up from me.

[2.695 lb] I don't use this for mounting my camera to anything (which I think is what it is made for?). I just wanted to be able to fit my pinky finger on the camera when I was shooting. It is really well made, rock solid on the camera, totally flush to the body and doesn't block the battery door.


Sony's battery grip has a very visible gap between it and the A7IV. It's also too big, adds too much weight to the camera and is too expensive. Battery life isn't an issue for me with stills. I did an eight hour commercial shoot yesterday, took about 1200 pictures and changed my battery once.


So if you just need a bit more grip and don't need the vertical handle, controls, battery life, etc. this is a perfect solution.

[2.695 lb] Great shoulder rig with a super comfortable pad. The Arc style plat works great and the rig is super well made. Makes shoulder work a dream even when shooting all day.Highly recommend and fits DSRL and my smaller cinema cameras perfectly.

[2.695 lb] I loved my new A7IV but it was a bit short and was slightly awkward to hold without my pinky sliding off the bottom. This completely solved the problem. It provides the perfect amount of extra height to the camera. I also like the additional heft it gives to the camera. The A7IV almost felt too light to me, when I switched to Sony, but the baseplate took care of that too. My camera is a joy to hold now. Solid and comfortable.
