Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. May I use this Hahnemuhle Etching paper for printing my etching through a printing press? Is it good for use with etching inks? Are there any special coatings on it for photographer's use? Thank you!

A: Hahnemühle Museum Etching Paper is designed for use in inkjet printers. You can experiment using it for other processes but there are no specific known results using this paper with the method you described.

Q: 2. This listing does not tell how many sheets are in the box. 25 I will have to assume but you should really list what the product consists of.

A: This box contains 25 sheets of paper, and this is listed in the specifications section of the product page.

Q: 3. Can you make digital prints on this paper? Does it have a profile?

A: With coated papers (aka papers with sizing), the coating is the one that controls absorption of the ink and prevents bleeding and smearing. In some cases, you can indeed inkjet print on uncoated papers, but most manufacturers will not produce ICC profiles for them as it is not an intended use for them. In the case of this Hahnemuhle rag, it's highly likely that you will not get the best results printing on this with an inkjet printer unless you are able to control ink load. Even if you are able to prevent bleed, you will probably also see reduced contrast and saturation, as well as crushed blacks.

Q: 4. What is the mil of this fine art paper?

A: It is about 19mil.

Q: 5. Are there 25 sheets in this pack?

A: Yes, 25 sheets per box (pack).

Q: 6. Could I run this paper through my inkjet printer?

A: Yes

Q: 7. IS THE PAPER A MATT FINISH OR GLOSE ?

A: It's a 'High Gloss Metallic' paper which is '100% cotton rag' & uses the Photo Black Ink on pigment printers. This is one of the beauties of Hahnemuhle Fine Art paper, cotton & can also be glossy.

Q: 8. A question for those who printed on this paper: what images did you find were most suited to it? If there's a way to post an image that would be great.

A: It is best for photos with metallic elements, high contrast, reflections, or other striking visual elements. Unfortunately they do not offer this in one of their sampler packs currently.

Q: 9. IS THE PAPER MAT ?

A: No, it's not matte. It's a 'High Gloss Metallic' paper which is '100% cotton rag' & uses the 'Photo Black Ink' on pigment printers. This is one of the beauties of Hahnemuhle Fine Art paper, cotton & can also be glossy.

Q: 10. How good is this paper for bring out the colors of birds, such as humming birds/ Tucans and flowers such as Iris/Dalhias?

A: The Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Metallic Paper is an excellent paper for bright color photos.

[Weld-Bound] The tones with this paper for black and white, with Canon inks is my favorite. I just wish you had it in the A5 size. The dark areas are rich with detail, and the contrast simply pops.

In color, the prints are quite saturated and sometimes I have to alter color balance such that skin tones don't get ruddy, even with use of the icc profile. I've been using this paper for my color infrared and have been pleased with the output. :)

[Book-Style] Printed monochromatic image of a black horse with white markings. I was very pleased with the rich tones on such a delicate paper. Not so happy with the color, but could just be me, not the paper. I will be ordering more paper in the future for black and white images I don't print in Platinum.

[Weld-Bound] This paper-as you would expect from Hahnemuhle-is excellent, but it is not a "general use" material. Don't hesitate to try it out, and note that it is included in the Hahnemuhle Sample package for matt smooth papers, with two sheets of each type in the package.

[Book-Style] While they're NOT actually in Canada, I wish they were. In practice, they may as well be, since ordering from B&H is easier and usually quicker than if we purchased from a local supplier. After duty and the usual exorbitant taxes are added, the price is often not much more than local suppliers and the product is delivered to the door. More importantly, they have a great selection of papers IN STOCK most of the time. The only improvement I would add, if I could, is to have a satellite store actually in Canada.

[1.375 lb] I have been printing pt/pd using various papers for a number of years now and generally prefer Hahnemuhle Platinum Rag. The paper seems quite consistent, and it seems to me that I get away with a bit less emulsion when I use it.
