The toroidal transformer in the A-S3200 is designed to provide technical proficiency and musicality. With less flux leakage, there is no negative impact on other sensitive audio circuits. Copper wire is directly drawn from the winded core to help minimize energy loss, allowing the full emotional energy in your music to be expressed.

The PC-Triple C speaker wire is designed with a more linear structure to allow for smoother signal transmission to more accurately present the original music recording. High quality capacitors are also used for an authentic musical sound.

The phono amp is comprised of an MC head amp and an equalizer amp, each of which are discretely configured to help achieve a rich sound with pronounced musicality when playing vinyl records through either an MC or MM cartridge.

Using the low impedance design concept helps minimize energy loss while maintaining integrity in the audio signal to help produce an open, natural soundstage.

Using brass screws and oxygen-free copper terminals for the block capacitors helps to deliver additional headroom available in the four 22,000 μF capacitors to produce an open soundstage.

The fully balanced circuitry design helps the amplifier deliver a low signal-to-noise ratio for virtually perfect silence gaps in your music and moments between movements. This design also enhances channel separation to produce a soundstage that almost makes the system disappear, making you feel more like you're at a live performance.

Cut directly from pure brass, the speaker terminals are designed to comfortably fit in your hand for simple tightening to provide a secure connection.

The A-S3200 adopts a Mechanical Ground Concept, with the bolts of the feet welded directly to the main chassis, and the large heat sink, power transformer, and block capacitors bolted directly to the chassis. This design helps maximize rigidity and avoid unwanted vibration to achieve expressive and rhythmic bass, presenting you with the groove of the music. The A-S3200 also has a Rigid Streamlined Construction to further suppress vibration.

Completing the rigidity of the amplifier are the brass feet that can be used with either spikes or a scratch-resistant base for delicate surfaces.

Use of the switches and knobs serve as a connection between you and the engineer, providing a tactile surface reflecting the meticulous nature of the engineers.

The level meters are both a nod to the nostalgic era of hi-fi and demonstrate the return of pure hi-fi for today's enthusiasts. Visually presenting the dynamics and pulse of the music, the level meters are designed to provide a warm feeling through their softly illuminated LEDs. The glass window is cut diagonally and precision-fit to the back surface of the front panel, leaving no gaps or screws for connection.

  • Floating balanced circuit for power amplifier
  • Tone control circuit with a parallel volume system
  • Large power supply with four separate circuits
  • Low impedance, high performance headphone amp
  • High-rigidity lever selectors

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How loud do the fans get, do you hear them?

A: The Yamaha PX8 is made primarily for live sound reinforcement. In that environment, you would not hear the cooling fans in the PX8 amplifier.

Q: 2. My speakers are rated max 380 watts RMS,is the PX5 too powerful to power my fronts?

A: No. Not too powerful. As long as the speakers are 8 ohm. 500 Watt amp is a good match for 380W speakers.

Q: 3. How sensitive is the remote volume control at lower levels? My Denon PMA-600NE jumps too much from the lowest settings.

A: The loudness control will provide up to -30dB of attenuation of the Yamaha A-S301 Stereo Integrated Amplifier (Black), BH # YAAS301BL. If the volume is too low, turn down the volume, set the LOUDNESS control to the FLAT position, and then adjust the VOLUME again. The volume control functions in measured steps, either from the remote control or the volume control knob on the body of the receiver.

Q: 4. if this amp is connected to a stereo receiver, do the speakers connect to the amp or receiver?

A: The speakers will connect to the amp as the amp is what is providing the power to the passive speakers

Q: 5. I am looking at the Yamaha amplifier AS 30l to upgrade my old system. I have Bang & O Danish speakers with free wires at the end of each cable. I see no place for free wires on this amplifier or the Yamaha AS500. It looks like I need the RCA Male Stereo Audio cable end pieces. If this is correct, would you let me know please. All of this is for a 32 inch Smart TV which is the largest size which will fit the space. The picture is great, but the sound options are driving my audiophile ears crazy. I do see a way to get the TV audio into the amplifier and that is by the digital audio output (optical), but no such place appears on the Yamaha AS500. There is a single audio output hole on the back of the TV, but that is beyond my ancient experience. I dont see an audio input on the amplifier of one hole. Am I wrong? My laptop enlarged image of the back of the amplifier leaves a lot to be desired. You will be happy to know that there is no problem with my Sony CD/DVD player which was purchased from you. I will also use my B & O turntable and be able to play my vinyl records again. As I said, we are talking older or ancient!

A: This receiver offers binding posts that will accept bare wire speaker leads.

Q: 6. This amp, like the S501 and the S701, shows the tone controls at Bass (20 Hz) and Treble (20kHz), +/- 10 db. What does this mean? Most people can't hear anything at 20 or 20k hz anyway. Thanks

A: The +/- treble and bass controls on the Yamaha A-S301 receiver gives you control over the level of the bass and treble roll off so that you can increase the bass for enhanced bass response or decrease it if you feel the bass coming out of your particular speakers might be too strong and it would be the same for the treble.

Q: 7. Does it have fans to keep it cool?

A: Yes the Yamaha PX8 amplifier has cooling fans.

Q: 8. it makes sense to add onto the question I had last night about the Yamaha amplifier. What you need to know is you sell the Samsung TV J5500 in 40 inch. I got the 32 inch and it has the sound choices which are driving me nuts. I got it quickly knowing the Sony 40 inch was too large for the space in the entertainment center. So you can look at what is on the back of that TV and see the outputs which would go to the amplifier and from the amp to the B & O speakers. My question again: what do I use for the TV to the amplifier connection and then the amplifier to the speakers?? I do not understand banana plugs and there is no place on the amplifier for loose end speaker wires. Thank you!!

A: The receiver offers binding posts that allows for bare wired speaker cables to be wrapped around the terminal posts for the speaker inputs:1. Connecting speaker cables:2. Remove approximately 10 mm (3/8 in) of insulation from the end of each speaker cable.3. Twist the bare wires of the cable firmly together.4. Unscrew the knob.5. Insert one bare wire into the hole in the side of each terminal. Tighten the knob to secure the wire. The TV audio would route from the TV's digital optical output to the amplifier's digital optical input via a TOSLINK cable. Yamaha Owner's Manual: http://bit.ly/1ON0NfG

Q: 9. Got a pair of yamaha cbr15 inch speakers. Will px5 be suitable for the speakers

A: Yes, the Yamaha PX5 Stereo Power Amplifier is compatible for use with a pair of Yamaha CBR15 Speakers.

Q: 10. Como se compara con onkyo A 9150?

A: Yamaha is offering the better value for a lower price.

[2.0] I got this amp for a second set, but I like it so much that now is my primary option. Sounds better than an amp that is twice the price. Powerful enough to be unbearably loud in my big room. It sounds clear and has a very smooth top end. It is good with Triangle borea br03, but amazing with Klipsch rp160m. I always use a subwoofer, so can't comment how the bass would sound without. The volume level can't be seen, black on black. It doesn't bother me, but it might matter to some. And for the price of 350, just get it!

[±0.5 dB] I bought the Yamaha A-S301 to replace an aging 1998 Pioneer receiver. The Yamaha delivers more solid bass. Perhaps less treble, but less treble distortion. For example, you can distinguish between different crash or ride cymbals. Horn sections are very clear, without harshness. I listen mostly to CDs, so the optical input is nice.
I use efficient Klipsch R-820F tower speakers, so the Yamaha has plenty of headroom.

[2.0] An excellent receiver. More fidelity than I've had with any other except maybe the prior version of this model. Both deliver an awesome degree of sound quality even at lower volumes (the hallmark of an electronically high end system). It is, for all intents and purposes the same amplifier as the R-S500 - possibly improved a tad over that even. The fine tuning on tone control (loudness) is very responsive. You can fashion your music any way you like it.

[68 lb] This unit replaces a 15 year old top of the line Harmon Kardon receiver which decided to die. Even my old dance mix tapes from the 1980s sound incredible. I believe the S-301 delivers better sound quality overall than my old Harmon... the highs are crisp, the lows deep and rich. It performs as well as the S-801 in my media room. Thank you Yamaha, all my components will be Yamaha going forward.

[2.0] I was fortunate enough to purchase this amp on sale (249.95) just before Christmas and am very pleased with it. The audio performance is very good and it had all the features I needed including a phono input, several RCA audio inputs, digital inputs, a nice DAC and a very good headphone stage . I'm using a 20+ year old Philips CD player and playing FLAC audio files through 80's era Boston Acoustics A70 speakers. The amp has brought new life to these older components and delivers a terrific audio experience. The remote control is very solid and will operate other Yamaha components.
I do wish it had better visual options on the front panel to indicate volume level and input selection when in use. There are very small lights for each input, but they are almost impossible to read across a room. The volume dial does have a black line on it, but it is impossible to see from more than a few away.
Overall I'm very pleased with the A-S301. Great stereo performance at a great price. Paired with a good set of speakers or headphones, it provides a terrific audio experience.
