The white Countryman B2D Lavalier Mic for Audio Technica Wireless Transmittersfrom Countryman B2D Lavalier Mic for Audio Technica Wireless Transmittersfeatures a lightweight 0.18-ounce body that was designed to be discreetly mounted and can be used for miking news anchors, actors in a film or theater setting, lecturers in a school or house of worship type environment.

The B2D's tight hypercardioid pattern gives the mic an extra 6-10 dB of headroom compared to an omnidirectional lavalier mic, which means less problems with feedback, ambient noise, room rumble, and phase cancellations when using multiple microphones.

This version offers medium gain for very loud speaking, such as in theater performances and most vocals. In addition, the B2D lavalier is equipped with a hardwired cable that terminates to a cH-style 4-pin connector for direct connection to Audio Technica ATW-T5201 wireless bodypack transmitters.

With its small size and sensitivity options, the B2D can easily hide behind a shirt button. This makes it invisible for film work, theater, live shows, or any other application.

Natural vocal reproduction and a tight polar pattern make the B2D ideal for broadcast and is a dependable workhorse you can count on to perform night after night.

The isolation clips minimize clothing and vibration noise while allowing 360° of rotation for easy positioning of the microphone.

This microphone is tuned to a frequency response that is natural and intelligible at a wide range of distances from the mouth. It delivers wonderful sound quality on the chest (8-10" from the mouth) or towards the collar (3-4").

Medium (red band, -10 dB re W4) for Loud vocals

Q: 1. How is the quality of this microphone compared to a similarly priced mono shotgun? I realize it can't possibly be as good since it is a jack of all trades, but does it compare reasonably well against the rode NTG3 or even the Sennheiser MKE 600?

A: The audio and build quality of the Audio-Technica BP4029 are very good. There are differences in design between the stereo BP4029 and the mono Rode NTG3 and Sennheiser MKE 600 microphones and in the way that they capture sound. Mono and stereo mics are typically used for different applications. The NTG3 and MKE 600 each have one cardioid mic element for a very focused pattern which picks up sound from directly in front of the mic. The stereo BP4029 has a mid-side configuration with separate cardioid and figure-8 mic elements which work together to create a stereo image. The cardioid element is used for "mid" and faces the sound source while the figure-8 element is the "side" mic which is typically aimed at a 90 degree angle from the sound source and creates the left and right split. The BP4029 offers three selectable settings -- M-S direct, LR wide, and LR narrow. In M-S mode, the BP4029 provides a traditional stereo sound. In addition to the basic M-S pattern, the BP4029 also offers LR wide mode to pick up more of the ambient sounds for a wider stereo image while the LR narrow mode picks up less of the ambient sound for a more narrow stereo image. The three settings allow the mic to be adjusted based on the recording environment in order to capture the best possible audio. So the mic you select should be based on the application it will be used for, the direction of the audio source, as well as the recording environment.

Q: 2. Hi If I need to record sound effects and a quiet voice at a distance of 5-30 cm from the capsules, will the stereo image still be clearly present? I mean a clear separation of right and left.

A: Yes, because the Audio-Technica BP4025 X/Y Stereo Field Recording Microphone uses two individual capsules and offers the ability to keep the signal of each capsule independent of the other for individual recording, it will capture a stereo recording and depict a stereo image of the sound source it is oriented towards.

Q: 3. does it have a speed adjustment?

A: No. There is no speed adjustment.

Q: 4. I'm intrigued by the M-S setting, which Lisa described as traditional stereo. I'm wondering if the mic is set to MS, whether it could be used to mic two people sitting very close together for an interview. Possible?

A: The Audio-Technica BP4029 (AT835ST) records in M-S Mode and Left/Right Stereo Modes. Yes you can use it to interview people sitting very close together, up to about 5 feet away from the mic at the very most.

Q: 5. Can you buy an extra bodypack to pair up with one of the channels such that you can use either the handheld or bodypack?

A: Yes you can get a Audio-Technica ATW-T1001 System 10 Digital Wireless Bodypack Transmitter (2.4 GHz) to use with the Audio-Technica ATW-RU13 System 10 PRO Wireless Receiver so that you can either use 2 handheld or 2 lavalier microphones.

Q: 6. Is this product similar to D4+?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 7. Am I correct in understanding that this does not require an amp? It has RCA outputs build in that could connect directly to speakers? I am setting up a system in a very small space so looking to keep it compact, but I don't want to buy an all-in-one.

A: You can connect it directly to powered speakers that have RCA inputs since it has a pre-amp built in.

Q: 8. Do they make a rack mount kit for these units? Can you mount 2 of then side by side or should I just mount them on a1 RU shelf?

A: Yes, the Audio-Technica ATW-1312/L System 10 PRO Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Combo Lavalier & Handheld Microphone System comes with rackmount hardware and a joining bar for connecting two ATW-RU13 receivers side by side.

Q: 9. Is it possible to use another cartridge like the VM610MONO?

A: Yes, the included headshell will work with any 1/2" mount type cartridge, like the Audio-Technica Consumer VM610MONO Dual Moving Magnet Conical Stylus Cartridge. When ever changing cartridges it it recommended to recalibrate and balance the turntable.

Q: 10. Which windscreen is suitable for BP4025?

A: You can use the K-Tek KR-50-70 Fur Windsock for Ball-Type Handheld Microphones (B&H # KTKR5070) with the Audio-Technica BP4025 X/Y Stereo Field Recording Microphone. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

[Hypercardioid] I have a Sony wireless lav and have gone through 2 Sony lavs due to the poor design of the cable going into the connector. Talked to a B&H audio consultant on the phone and she suggested the B3. Definitely seems to be a lot stronger at the connector.

[Hypercardioid] I used this to replace the mic that comes with a Sennheiser ew 100 G4 and love the size. I have used a Countryman B3 wired mic for years.

[1 to 2 V] I like the flexibility of this product in that it enables varied positioning. All that's needed is tape specifically designed for attachment to skin and in my case the upper cheek of my face. It has clear sound and is comfortable to wear.

[White] Needed a quality mic to record some interviews for a historical video series. Paired with my Sennheisser system, this little mic worked great. This is my 3rd Countryman mic and all seem solid. I'm happy with it.
