Since their recorders are more robust than those you list, I suspect that would be a good starting place. Not sure at all what you mean by everyone's go to is HDMI. HDMI is a consumer connection, not a professional one, and plagued by quality and connection issues. I can't imagine why anyone would prefer it over SDI .... I know of no professional camera asst (or DP working alone) who would rig a camera with an HDMI cable unless it was a special purpose shot with a camera that didn't have SDI output.
