Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. why is the volume control 1/8in? this seems incredibly strange, given that the speakers and subwoofer both require XLR inputs, and are likely being fed either from the XLR output of a mixer, or the RCA output of a DAC. The speakers specifically state that they shouldn't be fed using an amplified signal, so that would rule out sources like an ipad, iphone, or computer.

A: The product is meant for convenience when monitoring straight out of a computer minijack. The volume control input and output have 3.5 mm stereo male and female connectors providing immediate connectivity with most computers and laptops, MP3 players and game stations. A converter cable converting 2 x RCA to 3.5 mm stereo (female) is needed for audio equipment with RCA outputs. A converter cable converting 3.5 mm stereo (male) to 2 x XLR (male) is needed to use 9000A Stereo Volume Control with Genelec monitor loudspeakers having XLR input. These cables can be obtained from your authorized Genelec dealer. The connecting cable on 9000A is Y-shaped. After 1 meter (3 ft 3") from the control knob the single cable splits into two 1 meter (3 ft 3") cables, one for audio input, one for audio output. Technical Specifications • Weight: 0,325 kg (0,72 lbs) • Height: 42 mm (1 5/8") • Diameter: 60 mm (2 1/8")

Q: 2. I'm having awful feedback whenever I turn these on and plug in the RCA cables to the back of the speaker (the 3.5 mm end). Even without the RCA cable plugged into anything like my Topping A90 amp, it still creates the feedback noise. I've tried multiple cables now after this happened with the cables Genelec supplied, and it keeps happening no matter what. However, it stops once I remove the RCA cable from the back of the speaker. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a different cable? Any ideas?

A: It's a steady hum whenever it's powered on and the RCA cable is plugged into the back. If I plug in the other end of the RCA cable to anything else (my Topping amp, my other audio interfaces, etc.) the hum gets much louder. The RCA cable also seems to not fit the RCA input on the G1 or I have to use a tremendous amount of force to get the plug to even go halfway into the port.

Q: 3. What is the GLM Network Adapter? Is it required to use the remote? Is it built into the speaker? A search didn't pull up anything. Thank you!

A: The GLM network adapter would be used for Genelec speakers without built-in networking. It is BH #GE8300601.

Q: 4. does it come with the white version?

A: unfortunately, Genelec F One 6.5" 40W Active Subwoofer (White) is no longer available.

Q: 5. Please advise if the Genelec 8020.LSE ESPRESSO Active 5.1 Monitoring System has a 220V power supply?

A: Our units ship as 120 VAC units only and cannot be externally switched.

Q: 6. Hi! I love these speakers. They are beautiful and they produce wonderful sound! ...Until I moved them... I used the same mogami gold cables I had when they were on my desk and wall mounted them (using genelec wall mounts) high up almost near the ceiling inside my vocal booth. But now certain bass frequencies are way over pronounced in my booth and I'm experiencing a boomy bass in the lower frequencies that I can't clear up. I know my speakers need to be calibrated in this new configuration, but I'm not sure what to do or what to buy. Can anyone help? Is there software? Is the GLM kit compatible with this model? An audiobook narrator in Atlanta would love your expertise. Thanks in advance!

A: You can try using a bass trap in your booth like B&H # AULBTCHP for example.

Q: 7. What cable do I need to connect it to my laptop? It has USB A & C ports.

A: You'll need to hook them up with xlr cables to an external soundcard, like a recording interface, that can send a balanced analog signal. The inputs of of the 8010s accept analog XLR connections. An interface or mixer that has XLR or 1/4" TRS outputs will connect to these with ease

Q: 8. What's the difference between this (besides color) and https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1542976-REG/genelec_f1bwm_f_one_subwoofer_white.html ?

A: The white one also has coaxial and optical digital options, which the black one does not have.

Q: 9. Thanks for your input. I need to keep shopping, since two of these are out of my price range. Can someone recommend a comparable set for less than $300/set?

A: A great alternative in similar size and price range would be the Senal ASM-3 which ship as a pair. Another quality option in your price range, the Tannoy Reveal 402. These ship as individual units and will fit your budget.

Q: 10. How much heat does the amplifier generate? I'm asking so we can properly spec our aircon system

A: The manufacturer has not provided a specification for the amount of heat that the Genelec 7382AP SAM Series 3 x 15" 2500W Studio Subwoofer generates. Genelec does note that this subwoofer is designed for indoor use only and provides specifications for the environment that it can be used in. The permissible ambient temperature is 50 to 95°F and relative humidity 20 to 80% (noncondensing). The amplifier should never be covered or placed it in a closed cabinet. The space must be ventilated or sufficiently large enough to dissipate heat so that the ambient temperature around the 7382AP does not rise above 95°F. The reflex port opening on the enclosure should have a minimum clearance of at least 8 inches to ensure functioning of the reflex port. If the subwoofer is going to be flush mounted in a wall, you must allow for unrestricted airflow in the reflex port and amplifier cooling.

[24.67 lb] I've been using Genelecs in my edit suite for over 23 years and I've never purchased a sub until recently. Mixing for broadcast, the sub is overkill, right? WRONG! It make mixes come alive and my clients love the added fullness.

[Bass-Reflex] I have been mixing in the professional environment for over 30 years. I mostly do film and have a small editing suite in my house. This is the perfect addition for a small mix room to accurately monitor low end frequencies. It will keep you from being surprised when your films or videos, show and play on big systems!
You won't be sorry you bought this!

[White] I bought the 8010's to have some portability when traveling and producing electronic music. They have a roll off at 65 HZ, just where bass gets beefy. Considering the size of the 8010's they do an excellent job in the mid and high frequency range...but they seriously lack in the deep end. I have since supplemented them by adding the 7040A and the difference is astounding. Yes, this sub has weight to it, isn't exactly small and the idea of portability is somewhat limited now but I'd do what is necessary to bring this baby along for the ride. I'm talking fullness across the board when combined with the 8010's that could well stand up to my home studio near fields.

[Bass-Reflex] I am a video editor and I use these with 8010's and I couldn't be happier. They bring my projects to life. I am totally sold on Genelecs and I will be buying bigger and better speakers from them when it makes sense. This simple setup with the Apogee Duet connected to my Mac Pro is more than i need but everything that I want. Being able to immerse yourself in your project is very important to making it he best it can be. Having sound as punchy and clear as this is integral to finding my creative flow state.

[Bass-Reflex] I sold my Barefoot Footprint 01 for this sub and a pair of 8330A and 7350A sub and I couldn't be happier! Let me explain why I made this decision.
In the recent months, Sonarworks' SoundID Reference has gotten increasingly unreliable on my M1 Max Mac to the point of constantly having to troubleshoot it. On top of that, the Barefoots have shown some issues producing accurate low end in my small-ish mixing space and I knew that having an independent sub will help a great deal with low-end precision.

Another big deal is GLM, Genelec's own speaker calibration and management system that costs pretty much the same as SoundID BUT is natively integrated in the speakers, gets free updates, allows for MIDI yard stream deck control, and pretty much means that you'll NEVER need a monitor controller again - unless you're planning to get another pair of speakers that aren't part of Genelec's SAM series.

This added value and piece of mind, Genelec's sustainability approach, the 8330s having lower overall distortion than the Footprints, and my low-end now extending all the way to 21 Hz at -1 dB (almost an extra octave compared to the Footprints) all mean that this is pretty much as good as it gets for a sub $4k set of speakers.

the 7350 does an awesome job at extending the 8330A's low-end without making itself known and the automatic phase alignment, variable bass mgmt frequency, GLM, and 7+LFE channel bass management I/O are unmatched at this price.

The ultimate cherry on top is that all the integrated technologies mean that the eventual upgrade to a Dolby Atmos system just means getting more speakers... no extra subs, monitor controllers, etc. My wallet sure appreciates the GLM ecosystem

[Aluminum] Yes, it was and additional considerable investment.
But this subwoofer with my 8330a work in total harmony.
Whether you use the digital or analog inputs they both sound fantastic.
Highly recommended.

[Bass-Reflex] I have this subwoofer paired with the Genelec 8020D's. It is a perfect match. It provides accurate punchy base, but not overpowering. My listening area is in a corner, but with the provided adjustment dip switches in the back I was able to tailor the bass to my liking.

[150 W] For being a small enough to seemingly hide under a desk, the whole room can accurately hear, and feel, lows in the studio sound system.

[150 W] My studio is small, so this is plenty of low end to complement my 8320A tops. The extension down to 22 Hz helps me clean up LF content I wouldn't have noticed on my old monitors. GLM is fun and easy to use. My latest mixes are holding up really well out in the wild!
