Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit the peak design travel tripod?

A: Yes this can fit the Peak Design Travel Tripod.

Q: 2. Should this lens allow eye AF to work on an A7iii? I just bought this lens and an A7iii, and my A7iii tells me eye AF is not compatible with this lens! Very disappointed.

A: This lens is fully compatible with Sony A7III , look for a firmware updates

Q: 3. Does video mode autofocus work at all with this lens (24-240) on a A7SII? It does with the 24-70 f4.

A: AF works fine in still mode, speed comparable to the 24-70 on my A7II. In the tests that I ran, the image quality (IQ) was nearly identical to the 24-70 across the board. This was, of course, both good news and somewhat surprising because I fully expected the zoomer with the smaller focal length range to be BETTER (less design compromises required). My tests were subjective, but the results were sufficient for me to have used this lens exclusively during a recent UK trip. But, your issue is video. Be sure that you set the continuous AF and it should be fine. I cannot comment on focus speed during video. That said, I cannot see any mechanical reason why, given my experience, it should not be comparable. This lens is quite a bit beefier than the 24-70 so if carry weight or size is a concern, think carefully. My best advise is to buy the lens, test it yourself and if it is not up to snuff, by your assessment, return it.

Q: 4. How does this compare to the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 Lens? (especially cnsidering it's cheaper, has more focal range and is a slightly faster lens)

A: Hi Dominic, while the 24-240 will be slightly faster at 24mm (f/3.5) it will not be the case as you zoom in. The 24-105mm will benefit from a constant f/4 aperture throughout. It is also part of our G series which benefits from a better image quality as well as more controls present on the lens.

Q: 5. I use this lens with my Sony a6000. I have noticed lately that this lens has been rocking or twisting back and forth (in the same direction as if I am adjusting the zoom). Is this something I need to be concerned about and take in to get serviced? What could cause it to do that?

A: I am running this lens with an a6000 as well, and I have had a small amount of play in that direction since day one. Mine will rock back and forth less that 1mm if I play with it, but I've never noticed it when actually using the zoom ring or focusing. If it is getting worse I would call Sony. Since this lens hasn't been out for too long I bet yours is still under warranty and that they would fix any issues for free. Even if it is out of warranty it shouldn't cost too much to be serviced. I've had them service a lens before, they have you send it to Precision Camera--they got it back to me pretty quick. Might be a good solution if you don't have a shop nearby.

Q: 6. Does the Lens Foot incorporate Quick Detach socket

A: I'm sorry, no it does not, only 1/4-20" and 3/8" threaded holes.

Q: 7. It looks like the mount is the same for the SEL100400. Does it fit on this lens as well?

A: No, this foot is only for the 200 600mm

Q: 8. Will it be possible to add an extender on the sony 24-240 lens to be used on a Sony alpha 711 camera?Vicky

A: As of today we are not aware of a teleconverter made that works with the Sony E mount.

Q: 9. When mounted on a tripod, will the 453g Sony a6500 easily support this 780g lens?

A: I have the same lens on my Sony alpha ar7ii. I have mounted on a small potable manfrotto tripod that is only 12 inches from ground. I had no issues. The tripod is small but sturdy and can hold the weight...

Q: 10. I am wondering how would this 24-240mm lens work on the new Sony A9 mirrorless digital camera. I know that the 2.8 24-70mm lens would be a better choice for this camera. but I'm going to purchase the A9 camera and with the cost of the camera and the 2.8 24-70mm lens I thought that I would purchase the 24-240mm lens because of the extra reach that you get with that lens until I can afford the 24-70 lens. That 24-240mm lens would make a good walk around lens in brite daylight but the 2.8 24-70mm lens would be better for night time photography. I'm I correct on that subject? Thank You!

A: Hi you are definitely correct on the subject 24-240mm is a perfect walk around lens because of its versatile focal length however the 24-70 is better for low light photography because of its wider aperture of f/2.8 which allow more light into the camera sensor. The choice is yours with one note on the a9. For 24-240mm lens on a9 body In Continuous Shooting Hi mode, the maximum speed of continuous shooting with AF tracking is 15 frames per second.

[0.385 lb] This is replacing the second set of lens coats on a lens I have owned all of two years. Those start shredding almost as soon as I install them. I do not know about durability of this cover yet.

EasyCoat is easier to install, fits more precisely. EasyCoat has paid much better attention to accessibility of all relevant controls on the lens, and has a cut out that lets you see the numbers on the zoom ring. Very well thought out.

I feels better in the hand as well.

N.B; I kept the lens hood segment from the lens coat (so far). It has a small tab I repurposed to take a leash for my lens hat, this one I would have to modify. Not that it would be difficult to do if you are starting with this, just keep it in mind.
EasyCover, if you are reading this...

N.B #2: The lens is pretty well made, and I am not sure you need this for protection. It mostly will protect against scuffs, scratches, etc.
I use it because pointing big white things at birds doesn't always go unnoticed by said birds.
Sony, if you are reading this, make your bird lenses black...

[0.385 lb] Thanks to this foot, which helped attach my 200-600mm lens to the equatorial mount. Thus, I was able to follow the sun during the total eclipse

[0.385 lb] Most foot replacements use an external tightening/loosening knob. This foot uses an Allen wrench, and I am so thankful because foot replacements with a hand-turning knob always get in the way when carrying camera and tripod over my shoulder. Once a foot is mounted it will stay put and who needs a hand-turning knob. Love it -- nice and compact and functional. I use them on Sony 100-400 and 200-600.

[Neoprene] I’ve purchased this cover for my Sony 200mm-600mm f/5.6-6.3 from B&H. It is a well put together cover and I’m very happy and confident with the level of protection it gives. It’s very easy to use and install.

[Neoprene] Have needed this for some time, so happy when it was back in stock. Works great for covering the flashy white lens and fits snug. Have used it frequently with no issues noted.

[Neoprene] I've been quite surprised how much lighter the 200-600 feels with this foot compared to the stock foot with an arca plate attached. I was able to hand hold the lens all the way through a 6-hour long air show no problem.
