The 49mm HB760 Infrared Filter for Photographyis designed to help capture images of how a subject reflects or transmits infrared light. Infrared light waves occupy the space in the electromagnetic spectrum behind visible light due to their longer wavelengths. Many surfaces and materials react to or emit infrared light waves differently than visible light waves, which provides the potential for photographs of subjects or subject properties that are otherwise invisible to the human eye. Such images require an infrared-sensitive medium such as infrared film or a digital photographic sensor, which may be more effective when used without the infrared-blocking filters frequently built over them.

Conventional light sources such as the sun, photographic strobes, or incandescent lighting may be used to provide infrared illumination. However, because infrared films or digital photographic sensors can be more sensitive to the relatively higher energy and shorter-wavelength visible light those sources also emit, the effects of infrared light can be otherwise obscured. This Ice 49mm HB760 Infrared Filter makes it possible to capture images of how subjects are illuminated by infrared light by blocking ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light waves 760nm or less from the lens it is mounted onto. This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It features a slim, aluminum alloy filter ring that helps prevent vignetting while remaining durable and lightweight.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this filter work well on a Nikon D850?

A: My base settings on the D810 was, 30 sec, f/8, ISO 400. Early morning with shade. I was pleased with the results.

Q: 2. On an unmodified Canon R5 won’t cameras IR blocker stop this from working? Won’t it block 720nm from sensor?

A: Yes, therefore the Hoya 82mm R72 Infrared Filter is to be used with cameras that have been modified.

Q: 3. I was planning on shooting both in color and B&W in raw format and was wondering what type of a result i will get in color mode?

A: A RAW color image shot with an infrared filter will produce a yellow/red image with blue foliage.

Q: 4. Will this work with a Canon R5?

A: The Hoya 67mm R72 Infrared Filter will fit any lens that has a 67mm filter thread. You can use the filter on a lens that is attached to the Canon R5.

Q: 5. Hello, can I use this filter with my Canon EOS Rebel T5i?

A: there are some youtube videos on testing your sensory if it is responsive to IR by using a home device remote controller; a difficult lens to use as is very dense to light and hard to focus well; so far, my results are disappointing; good luck

Q: 6. How well will this work with a near-IR film like Ilford SFX?

A: The Ice 52mm HB760 Infrared Filter blocks UV / Visible Light under 760nm. This will not work with Ilford SFX 200 Black and White Negative Film that only has sensitivity up to 740nm. Near IR film does not have the sensitivity to work with this filter.

Q: 7. which other filters can be used for infrared digital photography? I want to get digital images which look like the ones you got from kodak black and white infrared film.

A: The Hoya 58mm R72 Infrared Filter is the best filter for infrared digital photography. Set the camera on B&W, and the results will be close to using B&W infrared film.

Q: 8. Will this filter work on a Fuji XE 2?

A: No it will not Infrared Filters are not made for digital cameras , all digital cameras have IR blocking filter and this filter blocks the other visible light

Q: 9. What is the wallet?

A: Unfortunately we do not have a photo of the wallet but it is made to hold the filters and is included with Ice Infrared HB760/850/950 Set with Wallet (82mm)

Q: 10. Will it leave some soft color? Or will it always look B&W? Or, was the sample image converted to B&W?Thanks,MJ

A: That filter only lets the infrared spectrum of light to come through and hit the sensor. And IR light is Red. So you can convert it to black and white or change the white color balance to achieve different IR color effects. You can do all this in post with programs like Photoshop or Lightroom.

[49 mm] When shooting infrared with this filter on my GRIII, you can still view and compose image on the LCD screen! Most cameras screens go totally black.

[49 mm] Generally, the optical quality of ICE brand filters is equal to, or better than most other brands, for a highly-competitive price; this filter is exception to that observation.

[Glass] I've now tested this filter with Rollei IR400 and Retro 400S and the filter factor they advertise is not correct; at least with (these) film - digital I do not know.
I would suggest a factor of 6-7 stops adjustment to start with.
Sample photo on Retro 400S - F/8 at 1/4s (Rodinal 75+1) 21min x7 agitation.

[49 mm] I got lots of advice from the man working behind the counter and tried a few shots today. I’ll have to edit for the full result, but so far it’s been working as intended.

[Aluminum] Excellent inexpensive option to get started with infrared photography.
I’ve been using this filter for the last few weeks on my Hasselblad 500cm and the results have been very pleasing so far.
There is no vignetting I have noticed and the images look even all the way across.
