The 55mm HB760 Infrared Filter for Photographyis designed to help capture images of how a subject reflects or transmits infrared light. Infrared light waves occupy the space in the electromagnetic spectrum behind visible light due to their longer wavelengths. Many surfaces and materials react to or emit infrared light waves differently than visible light waves, which provides the potential for photographs of subjects or subject properties that are otherwise invisible to the human eye. Such images require an infrared-sensitive medium such as infrared film or a digital photographic sensor, which may be more effective when used without the infrared-blocking filters frequently built over them.

Conventional light sources such as the sun, photographic strobes, or incandescent lighting may be used to provide infrared illumination. However, because infrared films or digital photographic sensors can be more sensitive to the relatively higher energy and shorter-wavelength visible light those sources also emit, the effects of infrared light can be otherwise obscured. This Ice 55mm HB760 Infrared Filter makes it possible to capture images of how subjects are illuminated by infrared light by blocking ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light waves 760nm or less from the lens it is mounted onto. This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It features a slim, aluminum alloy filter ring that helps prevent vignetting while remaining durable and lightweight.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. which other filters can be used for infrared digital photography? I want to get digital images which look like the ones you got from kodak black and white infrared film.

A: The Hoya 58mm R72 Infrared Filter is the best filter for infrared digital photography. Set the camera on B&W, and the results will be close to using B&W infrared film.

Q: 2. How many stops of light should we compensate for with this lens?

A: The Hoya R72 Infrared Filter blocks about 5-6 stops.

Q: 3. How many stops of light do you loose with this filter?

A: I don't have the exact figures with me here, but on a bright full-sun day my exposures using a Canon 5D MKIV and Canon 70-200 2.8 IS was 30 seconds @ f/2.8, 200 ISO. Hope that helps!

Q: 4. How well will this work with a near-IR film like Ilford SFX?

A: The Ice 52mm HB760 Infrared Filter blocks UV / Visible Light under 760nm. This will not work with Ilford SFX 200 Black and White Negative Film that only has sensitivity up to 740nm. Near IR film does not have the sensitivity to work with this filter.

Q: 5. What is the wallet?

A: Unfortunately we do not have a photo of the wallet but it is made to hold the filters and is included with Ice Infrared HB760/850/950 Set with Wallet (82mm)

Q: 6. will this work on my Nikon Z7ii? Nikor 24/70 2.8 lens

A: Yes, the Hoya 82mm R72 Infrared Filter works on both the Nikon F mount and Z mount versions of the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens.

Q: 7. Will this filter work with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Fuji XT-3?

A: Neither the Canon EOS 5D Mark II nor the FUJIFILM X-T4 Mirrorless Camera have a specified spectral sensitivity from the manufacturer. That being said, this can be used with either camera, though you will need to use longer exposure times. For better IR sensitivity you would need to have the camera sensors modified. In terms of fitting on a lens, this will depend on the specific lens you are using.

Q: 8. I was planning on shooting both in color and B&W in raw format and was wondering what type of a result i will get in color mode?

A: A RAW color image shot with an infrared filter will produce a yellow/red image with blue foliage.

Q: 9. Hello, can I use this filter with my Canon EOS Rebel T5i?

A: there are some youtube videos on testing your sensory if it is responsive to IR by using a home device remote controller; a difficult lens to use as is very dense to light and hard to focus well; so far, my results are disappointing; good luck

Q: 10. is this work with Nikon D7100 ?

A: It will work with any digital camera, however, you are most likely looking at a 20-30 second exposure at ISO200. This filter on a film camera with ISO 400 film is rated at 8-12 ISO so you will have to compensate accordingly. Also, all composition must be done prior to putting the filter on the lens as you will not be able to see once it is in place.

[Glass] Generally, the optical quality of ICE brand filters is equal to, or better than most other brands, for a highly-competitive price; this filter is exception to that observation.

[Glass] I've now tested this filter with Rollei IR400 and Retro 400S and the filter factor they advertise is not correct; at least with (these) film - digital I do not know.
I would suggest a factor of 6-7 stops adjustment to start with.

[55 mm] I bought this filter to explore IR photography. At some time I'll have one of my cameras converted but until then this will serve the purpose. Haven't used it much but I like what I see so far.

[55 mm] I removed the IR cut filter from my Nikon D5600, so I could use it for Astrophotography. I had not tried IR during the day since you have visible light still hitting the sensor, bought this filter to block visible and allow IR light. This is so cool turned the grass white and made the mountain range stand out. Photo Taken Nov.10th 2021 sunset to the right of frame. IR during mid day makes the sky darker.

[Glass] Produces very good IR photos and screws on to the camera without binding and resistance. Easy to use and a valuable companion when the subject looks like it would be interesting in IR. There is enough visible transmission so that it is easy to get a good focus.
