A: I can't answer about the difference between the 500 and the 500 P, but my experience says I do not believe either would be good for cleaning slides (assuming they are photographic, 35 mm slides). The unit I have has a sponge filter on the bottom but this is insufficient to remove the smaller dust particles that would easily get through. The motor is very powerful.

A: No, the METROVAC DataVac Electric Duster 500 is not recommended for use to clean the dust off of a speaker driver. The force of the air may be too strong and could permanently damage the speaker. You could also try to carefully use a can of compressed air in short bursts from a slight distance to avoid damage from the air pressure, but the soft brush is probably the safest method.
